  1. I had a pretty good final run, my best for this round: 55,100
  2. Not quite the double-Z yet, but I got within 100 pts. of 50K! It will take some time to master the 2nd stage: 49,900
  3. Hey Zylon, The tanks will throw you off guard if your not expecting them(I usu. lose a buggy or two). It seems to be easier to jump over them if you time it just right, just watch out for those boulders. The other way is to pull back and shoot(it takes 2 shots to kill), then jump the crater(repeat 3-4 times). The best strategy seems to be a mixture of these two, depending on the placement of obstacles. Once you get the rhythm down, you just have to remember when to be ready. The continue function is a great way to practice your strategy and explore the game. The next round is quite a bit trickier, with more obstacles and enemies. I'm just now getting the hang of it again, after 20+ years
  4. I made it all the way to "Z" with two buggies left, but I was taken out fairly quickly in the 2nd run= HARD : 39,250 ...time to brush up on 2nd round strategy
  5. Congratulations eightbit, on your new find! I acquired my prized copy of Bounty Bob a while back for about the same amount you did (but also with the huge fold-up poster ) I can't believe this cart cost $50 back in 1985. That might be the highest price charged for a 5200 cart back then(I remember Space Dungeon at Lionel's Play World for $29.99),..and during possibly the lowest point for console game sales? It would be equiv. to a $100.00 price tag if sold in stores today! Add in the rarity factor, plus demand, and it's not too hard see it reaching the $300+ mark now. I've always wondered how many of these 5200 carts were made and sold by Big Five, and of those, how many still survive? There has to be some orig. sales figures/manuf. data somewhere. BBSB is given a rarity of "8" here at AtariAge. In terms of numbers, what does that even mean? It would be neat to start a registry thread in the 5200 forum to catalog ownwership of this coveted cartridge. Judging by this thread, there's at least a half dozen of us so far...
  6. Memory served me that yes, there was a jump and fire button. So I looked it up to make sure, and sure enough... Courtesy of... http://gamesdbase.com/gamedetail-arcade.moon_patrol.1982.irem.shooter.irem.aspx Anyway, probably had a one button arrangement on the Atari8 since the joystick only had one button. Hey doctorclu, that pic brings back memories . I think the jump buttons were blue though on the machine I used to play on. I noticed you're pretty good at this game!...now if I can just get through the gauntlet A-Z like I used to about twice.....
  7. I never played this in arcade nor seen it. Did it have two buttons on the arcade machine or did they use UP for jumping? Yes! The 5200 controls are the same as the old Arcade machine, with two side-by-side buttons for jump & fire. The speed-up/slow-down was with left--right joystick movement, just like on the A52 stock stick. It looks like Atari was trying to be arcade accurate with Supersystem titles(esp. those feat. 2-button/stick ), and yeah..maybe show off the console's abilities a little
  8. I used to play this one in the Arcade a while back... I kinda like the two-button controls in the A5200 version..and I'm just getting comfortable : 19,800
  9. Congrats to Noahsmybro, the ultimate Space Dungeon King! I've been medically incapacitated and couldn't really enjoy this round, but I did get few bits of treasure: 10,115
  10. This is a pretty unique, but frustratin' little game. It took me a while to figure out how drop the little buggers through the floor...you got to hit 'em in the head three times with a blooming shovel! Trying to line up multiple holes in the floor levels is easier said than done. There's definitely a lot of strategy involved with this one. 11,110
  11. This brings back memories of a large Black & White coin-op with a big, black, soft-ball size trak-ball... 27,290
  12. This is a tough one The fighter ship seems a bit wide, making it an easy target for the advancing invaders. When they get close you're toast! 2,230
  13. I finally got in a game of Lock 'n Chase!: 34,480
  14. No time to play this one. I definitely will need a new strategy starting at the first wave where the aliens transform shape. They are so close its nearly impossible to shoot without getting hit... 2,350 This game could have been so much better; it seems like an uninspired programming rush job. Simple things like maybe a wave counter to let you know how far you progressed, bonus points, more points for saucer hits (which are hard earned), and an extra life every 1000 points(since they're so stingy) would make it worth playing more than once every couple of years... The difficulty ramps up way too fast with very little variation(yeah the aliens do change which is cool), which makes the gameplay largely un-fun, for me at least.
  15. New scores : Baja Buggies-- course 1: 13th; course 2: 10th (new pics post #13) Lost Tomb-- 35,040 Room Bonus?-- 20
  16. This is my personal best up to now: 201,500 Four pterrys dusted!
  17. But on the 7800 the eggs hatch into little men that the buzzards come out to pick up, and not like on the 5200 where they hatch into some weird buzzard-human hybrid that can fly shortly after hatching That's one of those fine details I wish they would have included on the 5200 version. It would have been a nice exclusive (over the 800) and would have made the game nearly arcade perfect! I would agree that the game play and sounds are spot-on, making it worlds apart from PAMs younger cousin
  18. A slight impovement in Baja Buggies: -- course 1: 18th; course 2: 22nd (pics edited in post #13)
  19. I've been using analogue, but maybe it's time to dust off(and calibrate) the old Wico stick: 160,650 Pterrys dusted so far: 3 (in the beak)
  20. Thanks NE146 :!: I just bagged my first pterry. He came charging at me while I stood stationary, but at the precise moment I lifted my lance as he smacked into it with his beak...and bye bye birdie! Yeah, I was lucky as everything fell into place with exact timing..but one out of six aint bad 145,100 You can just follow it and stab it in the 2 points on it's tail.. it's still pretty hard though but not as hard as stabbing it in the beak. My technique for killing it in it's beak back in the day was to stand on one edge of the bottom platform, and then when it came down for you, start running towards it at full speed and just as you come to it, you jump up and that kills the pterry in the beak if you time it correct. However you have to be really precise on your timing It's definitely NOT foolproof. Or of course, you can just avoid it. By the way I really don't think this game should be played on the default "skilled" difficulty. When the eggs hatch, they are supposed to become the next level of enemy (i.e. red -> gray -> blue). But that doesn't happen unless you play "advanced".
  21. I've reached a pretty BIG impasse at the 1st Pterry wave . I've long forgotten the technique I used to dispatch the beast in the Arcade. It seems even more difficult in this version as I haven't even gotten lucky once . Has anyone found the kill zone combo for the pterry yet or is everyone employing a clever pterodactyl avoidance strategy? Best so far: 60,650
