Colecovision HSC3/Round 10-Dragonfire
atariron82 replied to Mister VCS's topic in ColecoVision High Score Club
The guy in that video may be on to(or on..) something Who would have known that listening to "I Want Out" by Helloween while playing this game would enhance scoring? I just so happened to have a copy of the 12in handy : 21,900 -

This game is harder than it looks. Careful when you jump across the bridge towards the tower opening or you'll go splat and fall into the moat! My starting score: 8,000 -

This is one of my favorites The programmers did a lot of work on this game. We're fortunate that it finally made it out the door after spending two years in limbo. The Zelda style swordplay with 'slashing' sound seems unique to the Library, making this title really stand out. My starting score: 49,881 -
Season 2 5200 HSC Round 17 *Beamrider*

I seem to be limited by the controls in this game. When things get clipping along in sector 6 and up there isn't any time for a delay in controller response. My CompetitionPro stick is way slow to respond in a tight spot. I thought it might be best since its digital, but its the Worst. The stock stick is a little better but gets cumbersome when things speed up. My best Wico stick will get me the furthest along with the most sensitive response, but gets pretty jittery by sector 9. No better with Masterplay options either. I'm curious as to what controller setups some of you ACES are using to get 30,000+ points in this game?!! Aside from the intense concentration and reflexes needed to advance that far, there's gotta be a better setup than mine :!: Thanks All for any tips (for future ref.) Ron -

Colecovision HSC3/Round 7-Q*bert's Qubes
atariron82 replied to Mister VCS's topic in ColecoVision High Score Club
Hi Jeff This is a lot of fun for me too! The Colecovision is my favorite system next to the Atari 5200(my other AA HSC). Q-bert's Qubes, Tutankham and Mr. Do's Castle are among the best in my book, but there are so many great titles. What was my strategy for Q-Qubes? As you stated, the early bonus rounds are important esp. the first. The trick is maximizing the time on the bonus clock, which is easiest in level 1. What I did was clear the first 4 waves of level 1 as quickly as possible leaving around 25 seconds for the bonus round. This left me enough time to flip the entire Pyramid :!: adding a grand total of 32,500 points to my score to begin level 2!! This probably gave me the decided edge allowing me to basically tie Ikrananka's score a whole 4 waves and a bonus round early I began level 5 with more than 8 Qberts, but it was my first time ever making it that far and death came swiftly My method of survival, being in uncharted territory, was to hang out near the bottom rows giving me the best chance to avoid getting cornered by Mr. Rat-a-tat and Co. At that level anywhere near the top is suicide. It took me a while to figure out how to make a line without back-tracking, since no cubes are permanently "set". I quickly learned that the lower left row was the easiest to make a line, leaving the above and right sections for escape maneouvers and dealing with Mr. Rat. I spent over 15 min in level 5, using this strategy making it as far as 5-4. At that point I had 2 qberts left and made it just 2 cubes shy of the next bonus round. This is an incredibly fun game. The only drawback was that it crashed for me a couple of times when I was above the 150K point range This could be my aging system or an occasional programming bug. In any case I was counting my lucky stars during this last run. See you in the next Round(if I have the cart in my collection), Ron -
Colecovision HSC3/Round 7-Q*bert's Qubes

Everything kicks up a notch starting at around Level 5 Round 3. With those green 'block-flipper' guys coming out of the woodwork, making a line was quite a trick! I can't imagine how crazy it is in level 6 to get two intersecting lines. I fell 2 cubes short of my Level 6 promotion, but 40 min of hopping like mad got me this: 224,845 -
I always marveled at those guys in the arcade that were actually good at this game; I was not one of them. I never quite got used to the angular perspective of the game. In defense of the 5200, this seems like the best version of this game for a home system. So far: 12,000

WoW :!: This has to be one of the neatest games ever devised. One needs at least a three-pronged strategy and a nice stock controller for Koffi to survive. It will def. take some time to master this fun and challenging cart. Excellent work, Ron! I may eek out a decent score yet, but for now here's some hard earned points: 15,150 -

i didnt even realize you could go up down till later in the game the digital controller fix is amazing Yeah-- No doubt; I can hardly believe how excellent the control is in this patched version. In the original I was happy to break 10,000! Staying alive through the Lazer Attack stage(as was mentioned above)is the trick. Also, you can rack up points in the Flagship round by shooting the fragments that fly off from successful hits; just watch out for those pesky fireballs -
