Actually almost done with a new game project for the TI 99/4A. Trying to avoid posting pix or code till it's done, but I'm so close!

Bump - removed some sold items, added TI console. -
One whole solid morning of distraction-free coding time with coffee and loud music. I hope this doesn't count as my Christmas present.

I know, but I'm old and nostalgic and I like having the real books on my shelf. -

Anyone in the UK have a spare copy of that yellow book they'd like to part with? I'd love to have one for my collection. -
I figured there was a method to the madness and my relative inexperience is holding me back right now. I'm planning to devote a good bit of time to my quests this week. It's also got my wheels turning on a couple of my own long-shelved programming projects, which was another goal of mine.

It displays a direction until you die, and then the "RATING:" line wipes it out.

The dwarf seems to be the biggest baddie, or maybe it was a goblin on level 2? I played a few times today and it's starting to blur. A little frustrating trying to find enough healing and some weapons on a level. After a certain amount of time you're whisked to level 2 whether you've explored all of 1 or not. It resets your constitution, too, which seems weird.

Off to an auspicious start so far...

I forgot what a great writeup on RPG's that was, Adam. I'm gonna put in some major screen time with Wizard's Lair tonight. I've also got a boxed original Sword of Fargoal for the Vic-20 that I'm looking forward to delving into.

High Score Competition (June: Road Hunter)

Interesting. The 1981 copyright date made me wonder why they didn't get it out sooner. Sierra had some other solid arcade games on the C64, I know (Threshold comes to mind). -

I never gave this game much of a chance, but now I can see it's gonna get its hooks in me. Great choice Walid, thanks for shining a light on this one. Does anyone know how this was ever released? Did Sierra sell it on disk? Did it just never get released 'back in the day'? -
That may have been the writeup I was thinking of, Adam. Going to check that out now, thanks!

I'm not that well versed in RPG's, on the TI or elsewhere, but I'm interested in learning. I found an original cassette of Wizard's Lair and was thinking about giving it some play time on the real iron this week. I thought there'd been a discussion of it in a long-ago thread, but a search turned up nothing. Have any of you played it, and would you consider it decent for an XB dungeon crawl?

Bump for updated list with some new stuff added. -
The ads in 99'er back in the old days seemed to be full of nothing but knockoffs of Q*Bert, Donkey Kong, Frogger, Pac-Man and the like. Then there are the ones I'm pretty sure were licensed ports at one point, but wound up released with different names after the 99/4A's demise. "Junkman Junior" and "Star Trap" come to mind. And some games seem "inspired" by classics, while not being outright attempts to mimic the original. Isn't Hopper fairly close to Pengo in that regard?

I never liked this game. I didn't realize there was an endgame to it, but I never wanted to play long enough to get too far. Bigfoot, on the other hand, is awesome. (Even with his constipated sounding Speech Synthesizer "growl").

I didn't own any home computer for years, just haunted the labs at school to play with the TRS-80's and later the Apple IIe's. Got a TI 99/4A out of a Triton catalog in 1987 or so. Met one other local via a BBS who had an expanded system, and wound up trading software and getting into MICROpendium thanks to him. Got an Amiga when I went to college in 1990 (might as well have stuck with the 99/4A, for all the compatibility that offered), and finally sold off my TI system for a song in 1992. Got back into things in the early 2000s thanks to Ebay and nostalgia.

Speaking strictly from a supply-and-demand point of view... I spent a a few years semi-actively buying and selling gear on Ebay. I listed every variation of every cartridge, no matter how crappy, because SOMEone would eventually come along and buy one to complete their collection. From the sales data I have, in my own limited business, I can tell you that Household Budget Management and Home Financial Decisions tie for the most worthless. Some of the other utility and productivity carts, like Securities Analysis and Tax/Investment Record Keeping, are uncommon enough that people sometimes would pick them up as collection fillers, and I never accumulated dozens of them in the course of buying up systems. As for games, The Attack was the one I always ended up with WAY too many of. The good games (Parsec, Munchman, Hunt the Wumpus, etc) are very common, but still sell well because there are always new people finding TI's in the attic or at yard sales and looking for the games they loved as kids. I always had this pipe dream of doing a series of YouTube videos where I actually tried to use old TI productivity software in real life -- track my budget for a month, write a freelance assignment with TI Writer on a stock TI, go on a diet with Weight Control and Nutrition, etc. That might be fun, but I'll never have that kind of spare time.

Barrage, Munchman, Parsec, TI Invaders. Cassette and type-in games: Maze of Grog, Ant Wars, Khe Sanh, Lost Ruins. New school: Titanium (I'm terrible at it but plan to change that soon!) And for some dumb reason, I will get zoned out and play the old Yahtzee cart for hours and hours and hours. It's embarrassing, really.

154,960 on my first try with real iron and an Epyx 500XJ joystick! And that's with a terrible looking monitor that's about to breathe its last. After all that time playing on Classic99 with the keyboard, I felt like a superhero with the stick. I made it to level 38, but by the time I got my phone to take a picture, it had reverted back to the demo game. Tonight -- switching out with a Commodore composite monitor that I hope looks better, and then we crack a beer and shoot for 200,000!!

Carts are gone. Finally almost done sorting my old hoarder pile of TI stuff and I have one more box of 50 carts (mostly Household Budget Management, The Attack, etc) to get rid of. All black shells. A few might have the little grommet from being on a store display. $40 plus shipping takes the box. I wouldn't recommend sending them outside USA. PM me if you're interested. Thanks! Keith

High Score Competition (June: Road Hunter)

Is there a difference between I and II in gameplay? They look the same to me.
