  1. Although I have a Dreamcast console etc I often use an emulator to play a quick game of SF Rush 2049 or Soul Calibur. The emulators do work on Win 7. I've tried both 32bit and 64bit versions of DEmul successfully although if I recall correctly I found the sound on the 64bit version not too great so went back to using the 32bit. That one has native gamepad support. Even better is NullDC IF you have a 3rd party app like XPadder as it doesn't support gamepads with newer versions. I use XPadder with a config for my Xbox PC wireless controller and it's great. You don't state what your error is specifically so it's a little hard to work out what your problem is related to.
  2. Yeah ... don't have many of those ones unfortunately
  3. The whole set is available over at http://www.retromags.com with each issue available seperately via Megaupload links. I will be making them available over at http://www.oldgamemags.com as well in the next few days. Thumpnugget is credited for all his hard work over there ... he's a scanning God in my eyes and in most others around here re Atari stuff
  4. While I have an A800XL and a 130XE I find I tend to run up an emulator more often than not for an A800 game of JetBootJack or Computer War as I find my Xbox360 controller for PC much nicer to use than the old quikshot joysticks I have lying around. But nostalgia wise there ain't nothing like playing with real hardware.
  5. I have absolutely no issues with the guys and how they want to run their sites. That's their right to do as they please. People can accept it or move on. I decided to do that but I have no issues whatsoever if either site wishes to use my personal scans over there. The whole point of preservation is making sure they aren't lost to future generations. In actuality they are thinking along similar lines .... E-Day is more than happy for me to host Retromags conetnt at OGM for instance ... but they prefer persoanlly scanned submissions. I have no issue with that. His site .. his rules. I am just taking a more liberal stance in this area. That isn't to say I want to host rubbish scans ... far from it ... but I am more interested in the preservation aspect that applying weird ownership rules.
  6. @ S1500. Thanks for the comments. Yeah ...thought I'd give Mediawiki a try. It's locked down tight at present while I get the site up and running but once I sort out prmissions I hope to enable users again. At the moment no-one can delete anything over there if they go rogue :-) @ Allan. It would be great to be able to archive everything. The problem is that some people have scanned mags at low resolutions with no cleaning up and they are pretty shoddy. And there are a lot of mags that have yet to be scanned in any form. Unfortunately the numbers of people prepared to scan are rather few in number and people who may have a complete collection of any particular 1980's mag are probably even lower in numbers. Personally I would rather host a smaller numbers mags that are good quality than vast numbers of only so-so quality submissions. There are some exceptions of course. I am putting up Computer Gaming World for instance, as no-one seems to have them available anywhere anymore so the interests of preservation outweigh thier original 150dpi scanning in that regard. But owners of any site have to weigh these sorts of things up when determining what to make available. Where I am flexible compared to OoPA and Retromags is that I have no issues making suitable quality scans available where they were created by someone else. As far as I am concerned if they have been released via torrents/websites freely etc then they are there to be used. Preservation is about ensuring they are available for future generations to read and enjoy. I find it rather sad when people want to apply ownership rules to a product that isn't exactly legitimate in most cases anyway.
  7. I am the owner of Old Game Mags and some you will probably recognise me from my contributions to magazine preservation over at Retromags and OoPA I am a long time Amiga and Atari ST fan (I still have an Amiga, 4 ST/STE's and a Mega ST as well) and I have a lot of magazines for both systems which I will be scanning and making available at my site over the coming months. Being Atari oriented over here you might want to check out my recent releases ... Atari ST User 097 ST Action 068 ST Review 011 Page 6 Issue 05 .... and tomorrow ST Format 045 will be uploaded and made available. For those interested in the quality I am destroying the mags (debinding them) and creating 1920 horiszontal resolution mags to get a high quality digital version so expect them to be a reasonable size download. Anyways ... That's about it from me. Feel free to pop by and have a look around. Expect to see lots more Atari goodies appearing at regular intervals over there.
  8. I obtained ThumpNugget's file via torrent [finally!!] yesterday so it will be on Retromags shortly. Just have to do some color correction work on it then it will be available via Megaupload in a PDF image format rather than OCR if you prefer that. Some people prefer OCR .. some don't .. choice is what it's all about
  9. Hi there, Sorry for the delay getting back to you on this. Haven't been here for a wee while or checked my secondary email so missed this. Yes, I do have this issue in hardcopy ... No, I haven't as yet scanned this issue. ThumpNugget has given permission to make these available on retromags and has made all issues available via a torrent on thepiratebay but is is incredibly poorly seeded currently so I haven't been able to grab them myself which would save me a huge amount of scanning work. I have been in contact with him however, and am hoping to get them sent via disc. This might happen in a couple of weeks or so, depending on how busy he is etc. I'll touch base with him again to see where he is at and PM you with hopefully an updated timeframe. @Triverse ... Thanks for the headsup on this. Always happy talking about classic mags and preserving them so I'd never delete a message from yourself without reading it & replying to it no matter what has gone on somewhere else.
  10. Think of TheCoverProject site as a Retromags or OoPA for game artwork except that they also allow people to submit custom covers, eg, adapting artwork for a DVD case instead of the original CD case for example. It originally catered for cartridge based games where the old Nintendo cardboard boxes for SNES, N64 fell apart due to aging and people wanted to put covers in easily purchased Universal Game Cases to protect their carts & make them look good on the shelf. Or they purchased used carts from video shops and wanted cases for the same reasons. The scope has expanded significantly since then with just about everything covered nowadays.
  11. Always great to see people working to preserve classic magazines to ensure they aren't lost forever. A lot of people don't appreciate just how much work it takes people like Meppi & Triverse to get magazines looking this nice. Looking forward to seeing what this Friday brings
  12. This is definitely a cool idea nonner242. Maybe you could make these available at www.thecoverproject.net as well as here at some stage? That site is dedicated to preserving gamebox artwork etc and while it has a 7800 section it currently isn't populated too much at all while some others like the N64 USA collection are 100% complete.
  13. Hiya, Vanman posted this years ago and rmaerz inadvertently started the thread going again. LOL But seriously ... who were you directing this at? I mean to say ... if you have scanned old pre-1999 PC or gaming magazines cover to cover at 300dpi etc then www.retromags.com would be most interested in making them available for people to be able to read them once again. Can't say but triverse might also be interested in relation to the outofprintarchive site as well. It would be a crime if these things were lost forever.
  14. Same result. Even tried with a non-Aero enabled laptop and still no luck. Screen flashes at the edges and then a complete colour palette issue occurs. Bit of a pain if the author is no longer updating it as it is the best A800 emu I've come across to date.
  15. Are you talking about manuals, catalogs or ???? Maybe he's wanting those mags like ST Format that came out with coverdisks? What are the chances he's going to sign back on after 5-1/2 years on inactivity to answer this question? : ] ROFLMAO
  16. Are you talking about manuals, catalogs or ???? Maybe he's wanting those mags like ST Format that came out with coverdisks?
  17. The PC is a better bet than the PSP for emulating the PSX as 1) you don't need to mod it unlike the PSP 2) you can get USB attachments to use real PSX or N64 controllers. 3) you aren't stuck with waiting for Sony to make a certain game available via PSN. Some PSX games like Ape Escape use dual analog and just cannot be made to work on the PSP. And licensing restrictions may preclude some games from ever being made available over PSN.
  18. Forgetting about the whole retromags website thing itself for a minute Triverse you started this when you stated that I had posted ANALOG magazines without permission from the original scanner even though there was clearly a message advising of this on the page you chose to use here as proof. Additionally you implied that these mags have never been placed in the public arena yet if you had looked on Frank Kowatari's website itself you should have seen permission from the producer of the magazine itself ... Lee Pappas ... to do so. In effect you slandered me with the allegation that I was stealing at the very least H. Frank Kowatari's work. This necessitated a reply to clear up the confusion. I have a LOT of issues of Antic magazine that I will be submitting. www.atarimagazines.com states permission has been obtained to place these in the public arena. Are you going to say that I am acting illegally the minute I place one of these on retromags? I would prefer to use ThumpNugget's scans to save rescanning time but if he isn't cool with that I respect his decision one way or the other and will move on. You notice have just made available Nintendo Magazine issue 1. And I see that Mort provided the scans. That is great but did Mort receive permission to scan them himself from the publisher? I think Mort runs http://www.zzap64.co.uk/zzuperstore.html where it specifically states that permission by and large hasn't been obtained for any of the works that he openly sells. That would indicate your site doesn't have permission to provide a copy of this magazine either. If I am wrong I happily take it all back. But this is the nature of the hobby we partake in, that being the preservation of old magazines. There will always be questions around the legality of this given publishers come and go and sometimes ownership rights may not be sold to other companies etc making tracking the the owners down for permission is a very hit or miss affair. That's why the 1999 rule exists ... I do understand that ... and even you are using it even though no legal precedent exists that states 1999 and before is exempt. And I have no doubt that both your site and retromags would take down content if requested by the rights holders of the content. I don't know what your beef is with Phillyman nor do I really want to. I just want to concentrate on making magazines from the C-64/Atari gaming age which I consider to be the golden age of gaming more accessible to those people interested in that era. Sorry Chickbaby ... I felt the need to clear my name in regards to allegations of theft that triverse implied. Here endeth any further posts on this issue. Cheers....
  19. Thanks but not really interested in disk magazines or re-typed stuff but the actual pages of real magazines sold in shops scanned page by page for each. eg like this ST Amiga Format pages I have approximately 60 ATARI ST magazines of varying makes which will be scanned and made available on www.retromags.com over the coming months.
  20. The last thing I will say here is .. 1. Yes ... I used a couple of W.o.S Computer Gamer scans as I alluded to earlier. When I became aware of the rules I requested them taken down while I tried contacting Martijn to get permission. 2. I have obtained permission to use Mr Kowatari's scans for ANALOG Computing so I will be making issues 23 and above available on www.retromags.com as they should not be lost to future generations. 3. ThumpNugget ... if you read this would you kindly consider letting our website host your scanned issues 1-22 of ANALOG and your ANTIC magazines? Currently the only way to obtain these are through a torrent that isn't particularly well seeded and hosting on our site will allow Atari fans to access them via direct downloads which is a lot better for everyone interested in these treasures. I sincerely hope Out-of-Print website grows a fan base of their own and that they can provide a different flavour to the magazine preservation scene. Maybe Triverse or Meppi can contact Mr Kowatari and ThumpNugget as well to broaden the availability of Atari magazines to help ensure they remain available for future generations as well?
  21. I agree with you. Notice we don't have many up at the moment (something like 3 or so). We are actively searching out the original copyright owners of these publications and are working closely with more than a couple already to figure out the best way for everyone involved. This is part of the concern that meppi and myself had with Retromags (http://www.retromags.com) who has over 600 issues and NO permission to host ANYTHING there. We have permission to host some stuff and we will be focusing on that in the future, unlike Retromags, we are trying to stay on the right side of the law with Out-of-Print. Notice we don't charge ANYTHING to access mags at Out-of-Print? Can't say the same for Retromags who charges for access to mags on their site. For proof, here is a release from them (again without ANY permission whatsoever either): http://www.retromags...s&showfile=1377 You will see that the first option is to pay money to acces this file (sounds like selling the magazines illegally to me). Here is a thumbnail for people wanting to see what it says. This is also a release from a member that was banned earlier this year by one of my partners with Out-of-Print for stealing scans from World of Spectrum and passing them off as his own on Retromags (clearly against the FAQ for RM). We don't take other people's scans and upload them to Out-of-Print, and we also actively pursue permission to release the mags we release (no, we don't have permission for the few that are up yet, I am not trying to imply we do). As the person being targeted by Triverse here for uploading ANALOG Computing magazine scans "without permission of any kind" to Retromags I thought it prudent to set the record straight even though he seemingly cannot understand the words "This issue was kindly donated by H. Frank Kowatari of http://analog.katorlegaz.com" in the description of the page he used as an example. I approached H.Frank Kowatari via his email address on the website in question and asked if I could make his scanned magazines available and he said he was happy with this situation. I have an email from him which I can happily make available to verifiy this but such is my past dealings with Triverse that there is no point trying to convince him otherwise. On the same site is an email from the author of ANALOG magazine itself allowing public dissemination of the magazines so I would have thought that pretty much covered the permission angle from all sides. Maybe I am wrong? I have also emailed ThumpNugget recently asking for permission to use his ANALOG scans for issues 1-22 that Mr Kowatari didn't have along with his ANTIC's as although I have 80+ ANTIC issues in my collection it would save a lot of effort reinventing the wheel by not having to rescan them. I have yet to receive a reply to that email. I readily admit that I did upload two magazines of W.o.S before I cottoned onto the personal scans requirement and I did ask for them to be removed while retaining my personal scans. Retromags has until now been a site predominantly favoring gaming console publications while I personally appreciate the old school PC publications. I am trying to broaden the appeal of the site by putting the Atari/CBM type of content there as these magazines also don't deserve to be lost to future generations just as much as any gaming console magazine. I notice Triverse didn't bother to tell anyone here that as fast as the owner of retromags can he is putting all hosted magazines on megupload for any and all visitors to obtain a copy so again his argument of HAVING to pay something is somewhat wrong. Maybe when Out-of-Print gets a large bandwidth bill him and Meppi may understand the reasons why the other site is doing it this way? Lastly, I think Triverse's constant attacks on www.retromags.com is simply childish behaviour perpetrated by someone who threw his toys out of the cot after getting a telling off. I don't know ... I wasn't there at the time. Unfortunately, while the owner of www.retromags.com has apologised and moved on Triverse seems to be the type who can't which is truly unfortunate. Life's too short to worry about what other people are doing. Maybe he should just concentrate on his website and not worry about the other site in question or slandering people without ascertaining the facts first?
  22. Thanks for the links. Found some in another posting which went nowhere so this is great.
  23. Not correct - problem by Win XP is not floppy controller chip in PC, but floppy driver of XP. It is discussed million times, but as I see there will be always people who gets from somewhere incorrect informations. It is at least 3-4 years since Simon Owen made frawcmd - enhanced floppy driver for Win XP ( +2K, Vista). With it, it is possible to read/write most of unprotected Atari ST floppies under Win XP. Even some protected ones. Read little about here: http://www.ppest.org/atari/floimgd.php Just to mention that many emulators use fdrawcmd for direct floppy access - new is latest version of Saint. There is mine SW for mounting ST and MSA image files for Atari hard disk (card storage) users: http://www.ppest.org/atari/imgrun.php Wow!! Your software sounds very interesting but I cannot access the links to grab it. Is there anywhere else I can download your utilities? Cheers ...
  24. I have the original box for a 1040ST ... white with the outline of the ST PC with mouse and floppy diskette ... and the measurements for it are Length = 585mm Width = 205mm Height = 410mm The dimensions for a 1040STE are Length = 475mm Width = 290mm Height = 70mm Hope that helps ....
