800 XL - Serial Numbers - Secam/PAL/NTSC
Marsupilami replied to Marsupilami's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I don't know if you speak french (in that case read this: https://www.atarinside.com/blog/index.php/atari-france/press-review/) but in january 1984, the french press wrote that 600xl and 800xl were only produced in hong kong (by Wong Electronics). It seems they had troubles to deliver more than 60% of the demand in the USA. Then in June/July 1984 there is another press article saying that Jack Tramiel ("Tramiel Technology") bought Atari from Warner, the company was loosing money ($35 million in the first quarter of 1984). ~1000 employees were fired at Sunnyvale. The Wong Electronics factories in Hong Kong were still unable to supply enough computers (creating the shortage which Atari was blamed for) that's the reason why Jack Tramiel broke the contract with Wong Electronics and moved the supply chains to Taiwan. That's how i guess the manufacturing date of our 800 XL. But maybe the french press was wrong, anyway we have lot of excellent Atari historians here, they could correct me and tell us if it's right or wrong. -
800 XL - Serial Numbers - Secam/PAL/NTSC
Marsupilami replied to Marsupilami's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Not a lot 72RHA => it's an NTSC "Made in Taiwan" and not "Made in Hong-Kong" so i would say after mid-1984 (Tramiel's era). -

Hi, i'm trying to use my sdrive² after some time but all i have is a static red(?) light at boot. Buttons are inoperative. I tried with "option" pressed at boor or not: Option leads me to self test. Normal boot leads to Basic. Sd card is ok, tested under windows 10. Sdcard content : 07/07/2017 19:41 <DIR> !Games 07/04/2017 09:53 133 136 EDisk01.atr 17/03/2017 19:05 133 136 SDRIVE.ATR 2 fichier(s) 266 272 octets 1 Rép(s) 1 978 781 696 octets libres Is my sdrive2 dead ? Wanted : Realtizer software

Thanks, I tried to save the inner disk (see pictures) but it was too damaged. -
Ok thanks, if you ever change your mind send me a message...

Wanted : REALTIZER software/image. This is a message in a bottle : I'd like to use my Realtizer, unfortunatelly the floppy is dead, eaten by the chemicals from the color filters. The disk is melted with the case so i can't put it in a new one : It's dead and it stinks petroleum 😭 Unfortunately i haven't been able to find a copy online. I just can't believe this software is 100% lost. "Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You're my only hope." 😉

Ok it's not user friendly until you find this search tool : http://patft.uspto.gov/netahtml/PTO/search-bool.html I tried to use "atari" as "assignee name" AND all names from http://www.atarimania.com/faq-atari-400-800-xl-xe-who-designed-the-atari-8-bit-computers_17.html in all other fields. I guess it's more or less what Jed did, that's why i hadn't more results. Too bad. 😥
-
Absolutely...but as said before, the search engine is...well...not really user friendly
