  2. What no CGE Is it because KR isn't finished yet and they didn't want people disapointed or is Classic Gaming on the demise? 934481[/snapback] No CGE 2006, but they are coming back for 2007. You can read the explanation at www.cgexpo.com.
  3. Thanks Chris. It just takes patience and persistence to solve the more difficult puzzles. I actually have thought about Sudoku. This is what I've come up with so far: So many boardgames, so little time.
  4. That's good to work on other puzzles. When you solve some more I bet you'll want to get back to #2. I've found that #2 is one of the most difficult in the whole set. I've analyzed it and found that you have to get the first two moves right to have any chance of winning. I am probably going to replace #2 because the shape can trivially be derived from the spiral shaped puzzle #9.

    Frustration vs. Motivation

Hi Manuel, I think part of it is that there are so many homebrew projects going on these days that it is difficult to keep up with all of them. You are admittedly better at keeping up than many of us.
  6. Interesting. So if you bought a chip from Video 61, handwired the circuits, and put it inside a PAL cartridge shell, you could make an NTSC Klax without infringing on copyright.
  7. Knight Rider was supposed to be released at the 2006 Classic Game Expo, but now it turns out there will be no CGE next year. Maybe it won't be released after all.

    Archon is possible.

Thanks Bob. The pieces I've drawn so far are: Top Row Valkyrie (spear) Golem Unicorn Djinni Wizard (wand) Phoenix Bottom Row Archer (bow) Knight (sword) As for learning the pieces, the original game names all of them at setup, and identifies each piece as the cursor moves over them. I had forgotten about this until I looked at some screenshots over here. Of course the 48 pixel sprite will come in handy here. (It is well known that the Phoenix is a legendary bird that ignites itself and is reborn from the ashes, but few people realize that the bird is in fact a duck. Just kidding, I admit the sprites could use some improvement.)
  9. Maybe he/she meant solitaire in the British sense. I'm working on it.
  10. What you've heard is true according to my Prima guide. Spoilers: I haven't tried this myself, but this is what my book says. You have to obtain a Big Bronze Medal, talk to Eileen Edelweiss, and talk to Izumi Takano. After these three steps, the third floor will be open. The medal is found in the alley behind the Honest Pawnshop in the Green Market Quarter. You go behind a tiled door and the medal is in the next room. Eileen hangs out in pigeon park after you've found the Wulinshu. Izumi is the girl who works at the Tomato Mart.
  11. Yeah, #2 is too difficult to be the second puzzle. It took me a long time to find the solution. It's going to be moved or replaced.

    Kernels

Incredible job so far, Chris. Get this done, and you'll be the undisputed platformer king. I won't jinx you by making any premature predictions who will win the Supercharger game contest. Nice description of how the 2600 handles graphics too.
  13. For 1 and -1, a = a ^ 254 would work too. Plus, it should produce more efficient code. A lot of people here would be happy to explain why it works if you're interested.

    Colony 7 2600...

Once again Cybergoth, you introduced me to an arcade game I had never heard of. When I first saw your 640x127 mockup, I figured it would be a horizontal scroller. Anyway, it looks good, and it was fun to play Star Fire with unlimited shields.

    Marble Solitaire Update

Well, my program has uncovered 1249 solvable combinations with horizontal and vertical symmetry. Most of these combinations have counterparts that are congruent, but rotated 90°, for example: -0- 000 000 000 0000000 -00000- 000-000 000-000 0000000 -00000- 000 000 -0- 000 So the actual number of puzzles uncovered is actually about half of 1249. Now I'll give my computer a well-deserved rest, and next week will search for puzzles with 90° rotational symmtery as in the following: --- 00- --0-00- -0-0-0- -00-0-- -00 --- After that search is complete, I will begin the unenviable task of selecting a tiny fraction of the available puzzles to go into the final set.

    Four-Play: playable demo

Thanks mojofltr. Right now, my priority is to get Marble Solitaire done in time for the minigame competition, and then I'll be free to get back to Four-Play.
  17. We could slightly modify the advanced programming guide for this trick. How does this look?
  18. Hey Paul, the minidig has been an invaluable resource. How about an explanation of intelligent flickering?
  19. I've read just about all of Atariprotos.com, and I don't recall a 2600 prototype ever being found by its source code. Is this the first time?
  20. Cool. We haven't had a new 2600 prototype turn up in a while.
  21. Nice job, Bob. Hunt the Wumpus was one of my earliest ideas for a homebrew back in 2002. Now I can take it off my to-do list.
  22. I do not know why some 2K files work better than others, but I just successfully made a multicart image with 4K Jetman and Hunchy files. Try the following to make 4K files: Disassemble the game using Distella. The following command line can be used: "distella -pafs hunchy.bin > hunchy.asm" Open the .asm file with a text editor and find the line "ORG $F800" Add the following code just before the previously mentioned line. (Don't forget to include tabs) ORG $F000 repeat 2048 .byte $00 repend Assemble the file with DASM using the line "dasm hunchy.asm -f3 -v3 -ohunchy4k.bin" Let me know if you have any questions.
  23. I've had trouble getting my own 2K homebrews to run on the K Cart (although Comabt works just fine ). When I padded extra ROM to make 4K files, they ran without problem.

    SWOOPS!

I've been playing on a K Cart too, and I didn't notice the rolling until SpiceWare brought it up. On my set-up, It's more like a subtle bouncing, as if the scanline count is inc'ing and dec'ing by one.
