Startropics II- Last NES Game?
Video_Game_Bible replied to King Atari's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Sunday Funday. Last game made in cart form for the NES in the U.S. Released by Wisdom Tree. -
@ dougy76 Hey, I'd really love to see these, and possibly even host them on our new site once it's up...Bard's Tale is one of the games that we would like to do an in-depth walkthrough for...so let me know if you're interested. [email protected] Thanks

Gah! My bad! Awesome map btw...you've inspired me to dig around for my old game maps...should make for an entertaining set of scans on the site.

Don't forget that you have to go into the room with all the hands at the top right and push the block in the center on the right hand side...it'll open up a ladder. Maybe my memory is fuzzy though.

TOP-LOADING NES FOR HOW MUCH.............?
Video_Game_Bible replied to A2600's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Hehe, you're looking for a way to play Fami games on your NES or NES games on your Fami? Cause if you've got some extra copies of the U.S. Gyromite or Excite Bike...and they're heavier than normal, than open 'em up. A good portion of these carts have a converter built right into them, and with the simple opening of the case it is released. Simply pull the Japanese game out of the converter and use any other Japanese game that you'd like to in your NES. Only one small problem...it might not work on your Ausi TV if it's a Japanese game. I've never tested this type of conversion for PAL/NTSC compatability, but I'm doubting that it'll work. -
Noah's Ark (Super 3-D type) for the SNES is the only unofficial release for the SNES in the U.S. You're probably thinking of them securing the rights to the use of the Wolfenstein engine and a lot of the actual game. The only real changes were that the Nazi banners were taken down and the guards were replaced with animals that you had to toss food at.

Just a few things real quick...the Wisdom Tree titles are most definately more common in the South, simply because it is the Bible Belt (as someone has already pointed out). This doesn't mean that they're not available in the North or the West, simply that there are more of them here. Yes, Sunday Funday and Bible Buffet are the two most difficult to find. Yes, there are cart color variations for most of the games, and King of Kings has 2 completely different lables (changed for an amusing reason). Yes, most of them suck, but Spiritual Warfare has always been my favorite of the bunch. The games are still listed on the Wisdom Tree site, but all of my attempts to contact them concerning their stock have resulted in no reply...so it's doubtful that they still have any in stock (actually more probable that they have them somewhere, but nobody remembers where...hehe). And finally, the largest run of a Wisdom Tree title that we've confirmed is 300,000 copies (Bible Adventures). And damned if that isn't a whole bunch of those little plastic pieces of crap floating around (considering the type of game that it is). And lastly, Wisdom Tree never did receive permission from Nintendo to produce these games. Every single unlicensed NES game producer was sued by Nintendo...with the one exception of Wisdom Tree. Nintendo thought it would hurt their family image if they took a religious company to court. I think that's about it.

Hey Rob, sorry for not sending a PM, but I don't have your aim or email...maybe I missed it somewhere. Anyway, I'd be interested in this as a possible inclusion in our Vectrex Arcade unit. My email is: [email protected] AIM: VideoGameBible Thanks, Andy -
Is anyone insuring their collection?
Video_Game_Bible replied to atari art's topic in Classic Console Discussion
This is one of the things that we're trying to promote along the way. As it stands, pretty much any insurance company would classify your collection as "obsolete electronic equipment." This basically makes a room full of games "worth" about 50 bucks. So, let me know which insurance company you're trying to go through, and we'll put them on our list when we begin the drive to allow video game collections to be insured. We will send them a set of the guides, along with our presentation on the matter, and of course anything else that we might consider helpful to the good fight. Though this is something that we probably won't see anything in the near future, we are actively pushing for insurance on video game collections. They deserve just as much respect as comics and baseball cards do, so why not insurance as well? -

Don't worry! We have the classic VGB on the way, and it should be done within the year. It will cover 1972-1984 and will retain the same format as the 1985-2002 version. But don't forget that this version contains the 7800, Jag and Jag CD...so it's not all Atari-free. -
Nah, emulation would be cheating...though it would probably make our overlay delima easier. Still, by using the original hardware it makes it that much more entertaining.

Well, all I can say (without giving away our 'secret') is that there will be NO distortion of any type...that we've finally figured a way of doing data transfer to a monitor...it WILL incorporate the overlays into the game screen without distortion, and it WILL include actual arcade sticks...not the flimsy standard Vec controllers (assuming I can secure 2 of them). @Curt: YES...I would really appreciate any help building the cabinet...that was going to be my weak point. It will have a few odd special requirements obviously...and we still haven't worked out one of the major problems. We'll be doing some testing with our first unit this week (hopefully)...but if you help with the cabinet, that sure would take a big burden off of me. Let me know via email or AIM: [email protected] or VideoGameBible (on AIM). Thanks.

Would anyone here be interested in seeing the design that I'm using to create an actual arcade Vectrex unit that will play on a large monitor (25" or so)? I'm currently working on this as my only hardware project (until it is complete) and was just wondering if there was any interest in seeing how I do it (assuming that I can get it to work right).

Money recommendation for classic gaming expo
Video_Game_Bible replied to AtariDude's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I would say that it really depends on the size of the show. But I took about $1K to CGE and didn't have any trouble getting rid of it. Toward the end of the show I noticed that even though everything was discounted, there was nothing left that I even remotely wanted. I'd say take a grand, prepare to spend it all, and if you don't then pretend that you found what was left and spend it on drinks or sushi. -

Yeah, we're actually working on a version of our upcoming "complete" guide in a format for your handheld. Of course, we're all worried about piracy, so it might be something that we just give out...? I'll keep ya posted. -

What's the rarest NES game?
Video_Game_Bible replied to atarimastermarty's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Hands down, the order of the top 6 is: 1)NWC Gold 2)NWC Grey 3)Stadium Events 4, 5, & 6)Panesian Games After this it becomes a bit more subjective as to the actual ordering. Cheetahmen II isn't the rarity that it was once thought to be, but I have never heard of these being sold in any quantity whatsoever at any store. They were available online for a while, but after collecting became a bit more mainstream, they all dried up. They're still pretty available through eBay, and typically come with the box and docs since collectors were typically the original owner. As far as what is and isn't an actual released game, there is no doubt at all that Stadium Events WAS released. It was carried in retail stores, and could be picked up by anyone with the cash that was in the right place. The NWC's are a bit different since they were awarded instead of sold, however they were distributed and produced by Nintendo. This is a bit of a gray area for sure, but I don't consider it to be anything different than something like Power Strike (B&W) for the SNES that was a Sega Club exclusive. Many games are like this...even for the Atari VCS. A lot of collectors simply don't want to acknowledge their classification as "released games" since that would turn a hobby into a very expensive obsession. Hope that clears some stuff up. http://www.videogamebible.com -

Keep in mind also that compared to the NWC Gold cart for the NES, the AES MS is a slacker. Be careful when looking for MS on AES though, since !Arcade! is making knockoffs (or "conversions" if you like) on eBay. The problem is, after looking at several of their auctions, I was unable to see any evident notices to let people know that it was an MVS conversion. Seems like the Neo-Geo world is just overflowing with money grubbing oppritunists. -

Gah! Sorry for being so late on the reply...guess I didn't check before I went to bed. Anyway, you have a very good question concerning insurance. So you can see that this is a very personal concern...lemme link you real quick to part of my collection: http://www.videogamebible.com/collections.htm Insurance is something that I've looked into...unsucessfully though. For now, video games are considered to be "obsolete electronics". This basically means that you could insure a collection like the one above for around $500...OR, you could take our a special policy that would wind up costing your more anually than your car. For right now, my understanding is that it is very difficult, if not impossible, to get affordable insurance for your collection. BUT, yes, in the future, I forsee one of the positive benefits of having this sort of guide available as the ability to use it for insurance. I imagine it will take a few more years at the very least...but once a price guide becomes prominant outside of any cult-collector group, that's when it becomes mainstream. That's when video games become the next baseball card or comic book. And that's when the insurance companies will start looking for you. As for the quote...hmmm...I suppose I could fly out. LOL Actually, that's a really good stumper of a question. I don't think that there are any reliable sources out there that can give consistant appraisals. Hmmm...maybe we should look into doing that for a living...hehe. As for getting a copy of the book...easy enough. You can either order through http://www.videogamebible.com, or I believe that you'll be able to buy it through AA shortly. Don't quote me on that...but I'm pretty sure. Take care all. Andy -

I can't believe that I forgot to mention that I am an avid collector of all video games. I generally take it for granted that people know, but I suppose to those who don't know me might see the book and consider it a corporate type job. Is it just me, or do a lot of these mass produced books from large game companies out there seem to have a very impersonal feel about them? I suppose anything from another collector is infinately preferable to something from a large corporate. -

Thanks for the review. I just wanted to address the very valid point you brought up about priceguides eventually penetrating our previously unspoiled coffers of in-the-wild rarities. That is a very real concern, and something that we addressed to ourselves before we even considered going to print. Price guides are going to be made for every hobby, period. You can buy price guides for doilies, American folk art, license plates (!), etc. But perhaps even more relavent is the unwritten price guide known as the internet...and specifically eBay. As time goes by, even the least informed flea market vendor would eventually be made aware of certain items of great eBay value. So, we put our foot on the wick by publishing this book, and keep the keg from blowing by assigning very reasonable values for average video game collectors and gamers. We actually like to think that our guides will prevent inflation of video games. And, to prove how indifferent we are about perceived value, I have personally vowed to NEVER again sell any previously released video game. I will never resale any item covered in ANY of the Video Game Bible books. AND, Video Game Bible will never engage in the sale of any previously released games. VGB supplies information, it will never engage in a market that it might be responsible for partially controlling. The reason I say "previously released games" instead of any games is so that we can persue our upcoming releases for several systems, including the 5200, VCS, Colecovision, and several others. And these games will retain their retail price within the guide until the day when no more remain available for sale through VGB. I think that's about as fair to everyone as we can be. I just don't want anyone to think that we're trying to inflate the market or project anything but our best understanding of the truth. I'll bow out now. But if you've received your guide, we'd love to hear about it. Andy
