Does anyone have experience with Retro-Bit's Atari to PC USB Cable? Maybe the adaptor only outputs 4 directions.

I recently bought Retro-Bit's Atari to PC USB Cable. I'm using the latest stella for windows. When I connect the adaptor to an original 2600 joystick, I can play fine, but can only move in 4 directions (up, down, right, left). Is this the way these joysticks work?

I capture a snapshot using F12, but then can't see it in stella. It says "PNG image too large". What am I doing wrong?
