Can somebody help in choosing an HDTV?
Hunter Trainer replied to Hunter Trainer's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I know, I went to amazon to see what they had on Blu-ray and the selection seemed kinda small--at least for the things I wanted. -
Can somebody help in choosing an HDTV?

Ok, so today I bought a Samsung 32inch 1080 120Hz tv. I've only played with it for a few hours but so far I'm extremely happy with my purchase. I bought the tv at Best Buy and while I was there I checked out the 3d tv display. I thought it was great. I was afraid I was going to be one of those people that couldn't tolerate it, but I found the 3d looked amazing and it was very easy on my eyes. How long until this 3D technology is widespread? I'm now very excited about it. -

'Coraline' and 'Up'. I found this at the Best Buy website: "Nearly one million people in the U.S. suffer from stereo blindness, according to the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (www.covd.org). This prevents them from perceiving the intended depth of 3D entertainment experiences. Some of these people will see 3D programming in 2D with no physical problems, while others may experience headaches, eye fatigue or other conditions. If you have any doubts about your ability to correctly perceive 3D entertainment, visit one of our in-store 3D experiences starting on March 21 (check with your local Best Buy store for demo availability). Overall, some people who watch 3D programming may experience initial feelings of motion sickness as they adjust to the picture. Others may experience headaches, eye fatigue or continued motion sickness." I think I may be one of those people that doesn't view percieve the intended depth. When I watched those two movies in theaters it gave me a feeling of vertigo. I'm going to try go to the local Best Buy tomorrow and see if the have a display set up so I can see how the home units will affect me. -

Thanks for the help and suggestions, everybody. I probably should have mentioned that due to room size limitations I'm not looking to buy anything bigger than a 32 inch. So what is the deal with 3D? Is that really going to take off? I've watched some movies in 3D and to be honest it hurts my eyes and gives me a headache. Does anybody else have this problem? -
Ok, here's the thing, I've been living in the dark ages and I am just now wanting to get an HDTV. I know I want to get a 1080p but can somebody please help me decide what refresh rate I want/need? Do I want 60Hz or 120Hz? I know the higher the better, but I is there a noticeable difference between the two when it comes to gaming?
-
That sounds really cool, PacManPlus. I'd like to check out your website when it's up and running. I really don't know what games I'm looking for. I'm just now slowly getting back into gaming and I liked the way that 4jays has it set up where you can browse all the games available from one site and one seller.
-
I hope I posted this in the right section. I recently discovered the site www.4jays.net and they have a great selection of old systems and games but nothing for the last gen, particularly the PS2 and Gamecube. Is there any sites that sells, or even specializes in, last gen games and hardware? I tried using the search engine but couldn't find anything.

Thanks for the help. It looks like I'm going to go shopping for a 360. One more quick question: on the second link you provided, where it explains how to save updates to a flash drive, it says that the flash drive must use the "FAT32 file system". How do I know if a particular flash drive uses that? Does it say on the package or is it pretty standard? Thanks again.

Hi, I'm thinking about buying a 360, but the thing is high speed internet is not available in my area. I don't care about not being able to play online or downloading movies, demos, etc. I am concerned about updates. Will there be any important updates for the system or games that I'll need? What about patches? My dad lives about 20 miles away and he has cable internet, would it be possible for me to go to his house and download any updates to a flash drive and take them back to my house and install them on the 360?

Can somebody explain achievement patches to me?

That is freaking hilarious. I printed it out on a color printer and added it to my patch collection. Are you the same photoshopper that did the "You Suck" patch and letter? If so, please post pics again for our viewing pleasure. No, I believe that was Nathan Strum's work. The patch and letter can be seen in this thread--http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?s...ctivision+patch It's very funny and very well done. Great job Nathan! Aftermac's patch is very funny too. To be honest I didn't even notice the "n" until jahfish pointed it out. -

Hello, Rick. I'm still pretty new to the forums(and retro-gaming in general), so please forgive me for not knowing who you are. I think you could describe the color of the jacket as "salmon", if you didn't want to describe it as pink. Crunchysuperman-Thank you for posting that pic. That is also a very cool collection -

jahfish- Thanks for the picture. That is a really cool jacket. At the risk of sounding like a moron- Who is Rick? Zwackery- That collection is awesome. Thanks for sharing. Mayhem-Thank you for the link. So how many people here have scored all the points necessary to earn all the patches? -

Thanks for posting the picture. Is that your collection of patches? Another question for everybody: Did most people show off there patches like in the picture or did anybody ever wear them on their clothes or anything like that? -

D***it, sorry. Previous to me starting this thread I did a search on the forums to see if my questions had been asked. I didn't think to look elsewhere on the site. Thanks for the link, though. In an effort salvage this thread: Does anybody else have anything they would like to say about the patches? Stories, memories, how you used the patches, etc...
