Thank you. Bluemsx works well though the GUI took a bit of getting used too. Finally, I can try out some of these lauded arcade ports. The system is like hens teeth in the UK so it's not like I can just pop to a shop and pick up a cheap system. This is where emulation really shines for me. Again, thank you.

Thank you. That's perfect. I think I'm going to try it on my Sega Master System 'arcade' stick first. Call me a masochist but I actually like those things! If all goes well (I'm not the best with a soldering iron) I'll buy a 7800 controller. Compatibility issues don't bother me as I don't have a 7800.

Is it easy to rewire a 7800 control pad so that the second button works a la the B and C buttons of a Megadrive controller? I think it would look really cool alongside my 2600 Jr. I also hate the other redundant buttons on a Megadrive controller. It's not very elegant!

Obligatory newbie Colecovision question... What's a good emulator that runs on today's PC's? I've tried a few but they all seem to be ancient and don't run on my system with various compatibility issues. So is there something newer kicking around than ColEm? I've been intrigued by the CV for a while but never had the chance to play one. Please help an old man realise his dream.

Is it not possible to make more? OR something similar kind of like what people do making custom arcade sticks?

Stampede 2?

Cathode looks sooo close to whats needed. Hardware is all fine and good but if it's hardware you want you can just get a CRT telly. Surely, with the technical know how in the emulating world there must be enough knowlegde out there to fool old style lightguns into reading something of an LCD or LED display. Like it or not, these displays ain't going anywhere. What Keatah (and myself) suggests seems to be the most economic path. I don't quite get why using a 'virtual' cable as stardust puts it would be a nightmare. Is using any plug-in for any emu a nightmare? Not really. I suppose people would need to agree on a standard (kind of like how Kega Fusion's plugins have a standard and can thus be used in Virtual Boy Advance too) but surely that's about it? Also, this whole "well we all have multiple cores so Stella can fix it" doesn't make Stephen's job any easier. He would still have to code phospor trail etc just like EVERY OTHER EMU CODER out there. I really believe that without this kind of software telly emulator it will ultimately hurt the emulation of every old console. Afterall, CRT isn't coming back and modern TV will keep evolving further and further away from the old standard output devices of countless machines. Sad but true, IMHO.

I'm not sure if the previous post was of the "I've got one " variety or an offer of sale. If it's not an offer I'm pretty sure that the Atarivox is going to be in the AA Store at some point. Hopefully soon as I'd really like one too.

I've always wondered why nobody has made a software CRT telly emulator. Just an emu that emulates an old telly. Nothing more. That could be used as a plug-in similar to how filters are used these days but it could have all the variables like vertical hold, saturation, brightness, volume. All the stuff the telly used to take care of. It would also alleviate the work of the console emulator coders. There's so many emus out there and every one of them has to duplicate the work of the rest as far as 'tv' output goes...

Indeed it does. My experience has been with something called the iContro Pad 2. It was supposed to be a low profile bluetooth controller that would work with anything bluetooth (iPhone etc). I thought it was a great idea and would make the perfect portable controller for my laptop. It didn't seem impossible either - i mean, how hard could a controller be for someone with the know how?. Very disappointing. Though, to be honest, something similar happened here (a project over 3 years in the making with nothing but the occasional sob story (which I sympathised with for the first year!). The good news is in that instance I was able to pass on the burden to someone else who was happy to take up my Marketplace offer. All because of trust between the original project 'manager' and my buyer. Now, I presume, everyone's happy. That could never happen on Kickstarter. I have a feeling that sooner or later the KS bubble's going to burst and there'll be quite a few upset people in the end...but that could just be my age-worn cynicism talking!

Just in case you're interested in taking a look at any of these: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/154984-hack-project-thread-galaxian-arcade-double-dragon-xenophobe-etc/ Some of the new sprite work and recolouring is fantastic. It's just a shame that the colours don't work in PAL. Commando, Double Dragon and Galaxian look particularly cool in NTSC emulation.

Bad wording. I'm typing at work while looking over my shoulder. I meant "nice to see some new scrolling tech..." as in it my inspire others (like loon) that ws all.

+Wish I could see the eBay auction. What was that all about?
-
I haven't tried it out yet but I'm really looking forward to it when I get the chance. Rally X is a great game and it would also be nice to see the scrolling tech hit the 2600. Maybe you could change the setting to Master Chief driving a Warthog...

Thank you so much for getting it back up again. Maybe when I'm back in the UK I can put it up on somewhere a little more permanent. That is if you don't mind Ethaniel.

I don't know if KS is less risky. I have only backed one project. That was nearly 2 years ago. They reached full funding, took my money and have dilly dallied (poor communication and spurious excuses) ever since. Until this morning. That's when I got the email stating they're sorry but they're cancelling the project. Now I have to hope that somewhere down the line I get my money back... A smaller community like this, in my opinion, is less risky. Although there are some here that take advantage of the community (won't name names to avoid flames) there is trust around here and most people value their reputations whether buyer or seller. That's not really the case on KS. Still, if someone like Andrew or Albert (hint Al: KS for the Atari brand! ) were to start a KS campaign I'd probably back it regardless. If for no other reason than I already trust them thanks to this place.

Well, since maiki has created a list I may as well join in! Would anyone be willing to convert KevinMos3's hacks to PAL60? If so, I'd be happy to find the thread. It's little difficult for me to search just now (work machine). They're lovely hacks though...

Looks good. I see you didn't change its name afterall. Do you intend to release a ROM after JagFest, at all? If so, is there a one player mode? I have no Atari loving friends...

WinVice and a small program called PRG Starter by Boray are perfect for me. All you do is run PRG Starter, point it to any of the vice emulator exe's and then allow it to associate itself with Commodore image filetypes. After that all you have to do to run any Commodore 8 bit game is double click on it and PRG Starter will automatically load up the correct emu for it. It even sets the correct memory expansion for Vic 20 games. It' s a great little piece of software that, IMHO, should be bundled with Vice if not fully integrated. TBH, I think the devs are missing a trick there as the Vice UI leaves something to be desired as is...

I like the lo-fi footage. It's more in keeping with the 2600 in my mind. OT: I used to really like the old CGR episodes recorded on video. Nice.

It's strange to have moved to another continent yet still be a part of the same online community. Stability in a sea of change...

I think that's one of the things I like about vintage gaming and computing in general. Compared to modern systems, which are in a constant state of flux, my vintage systems are timeless.
-
indeed. No looking around the next corner for the next compatibility issue or patch. Same old people playing on the same old hardware with just some shiny new games to look forward to. It's the first time I've felt good about being old!

^ Just wondering if you have a link to Kevin's hack?

Looking good so far though I haven't seen the latest video yet (I will watch it when I get home). I used to love all those old one button beat 'em ups on the 8 bit computers (Speccy mostly). Way of the Exploding Fist, Yie Ar Kung Fu even Kung Fu Master. Keep up the good work. PS: Do you plan to make your avatar into a real game? That would be cool. It's one of my favourite films from the '70s...
