Just wondering if the hardware upgrade has been finalised? The reason I'm asking is that I would love to have a cart that would contain a modern (and easily obtainable) version of the High Score Saver. I realise that the High Score cart plugs into the second joystick port but surely some industrious programmers in the future could utilise a HSC built in to the Harmony? It would also give all you ubiquitous ROM hackers another thing to hack into all those old ROMs! Just a thought. I've always loved the idea of saving my scores for Space Invaders et al to cart.

Woah! It looks like he's plummeting to his death! Still, it's a good start. I'm not a coder but I'm sure if you've got that far there must be a smooth way to scroll slower. As for the transition from sky to building; maybe you could have a 'bank of clouds' so that the sky goes from blue scroll to a white screen with a couple of cloud holes then on to the building. Would that work?
-
That's actually pretty cool. How would that technique work with other sprites on screen? What you have so far is super smooth though I'd be interested in seeing it scroll past the building too.

What's the most popular homebrew ever released?
PFL replied to adamchevy's topic in Classic Console Discussion
The Pier Solar numbers are remarkable given the weak homebrew scene (as far as I can see) for the Megadrive/Genesis. Out of all the popular consoles it seems to have a really small homebrew collection... Numbers like 6000 would show there seems to be a hunger for games and a huge market. I wonder why there aren't more... -
I really like the sprites. I think they're quite charming. As a Vic 20 fanboy I've played plenty of games in which the main sprite has no animation and it's never bothered me. If I were you I wouldn't worry about your sprite work. Do you think proper smooth scrolling is doable while minimising flicker? That would be interesting to see. It certainly would make the diving part feel a little more 'organic'.

Cool. Like I said, it was just a thought. I won't say another word on the subject. The dead horse has been flogged for the last time(at least by me!)
-
There should be a summer version too. The protagonist can be a giant ice cream cone. A giant ice cream with an attitude like a 90's mascot would be cool (see what I did there?). Anyway, looking forward to the full game.

It looks really pretty so far. I can only think of one small thing that I'd change just now. That would be the colour gradient in the sky. On the first screen it's, of course, fine but on subsequent screens it's that gradient that causes it to feel like the screen's resetting like Random Terrain mentioned. Maybe setting the game at twighlight with some stars might be nice? I really like the idea of the game changing once you hit the ground. Perhaps then the game could become an 'endless' runner allowing for shooting (fire) and jumping (pushing up or button 2). It would change up the game play while keeping the pace of the 'vertical' portion of the game. Good luck with whichever way you go. It really does look good.

Still prefer Harmony+ but at least Harmony Encore rolls of the tongue a little better than Harmony Forte. Here are another couple to throw in the ring: Harmony 2014 Harmony Muse Harmony 100 Harmony 2

^ Too true. A license is a license but for people coming late to the table and who didn't follow the development of the game I can see why they don't quite grasp it. I suppose if the game was an 'proper' Atari sanctioned commercially released limited edition from 1983 folk wouldn't get so upset. After all, when Bungie puts out the latest Halo limited edition nobody questions it. There again, their definition of limited edition is slightly different to mine! I'm sure this has been brought up before and I don't mean to flog a dead horse but perhaps there could be a way that the ROM image could be sold as a digital download from the FSS site or something? Just a thought.

I'm going to keep this on my Harmony and every time Nintendo make another silly or annoying decision I'm going to play it just as a one man, anonymous protest! That'll show 'em! Off topic: Joe, I know they have to look after their interests. That doesn't make it not crappy though. It just makes the whole state of copyright law crappy...
-
Very nice. I particularly the subversive nature of it considering what recently happened with another homebrew...
-
Why not just Harmony+? It's simple, isn't copyrighted and shows that it's a little more than the standard Harmony. Just my tuppence worth.
-
I like it. Bookmarked for when I get a job

Cool beans. I'm glad to see you've found some inspiration again. Good luck! PS: Enjoying your new build. The slidey paddle thing takes a little time to get used to but it really adds to the elegance of your game.

Stereo Audio Mod (with RF video) for Atari 2600?
PFL replied to Andromeda Stardust's topic in Atari 2600 Programming
Do you have any links, at all? -
It would be a super cool feature. Perhaps the manuals could be downloaded as a 'pack' from Atarimania? I've no idea how much work something like that would take (I'd presume a lot!) but it really would add to the whole Stella experience. I think Stephena has in the past talked about GUI upgrades but it sounded like it was a long way off (after SDL2 migration and other stuff) but you never know...
-
Good luck! Sounds like an insta-buy to me.

Just wondering if anyone has a link to the original PET game? I looked on Henrik Wening's page but couldn't find it...
-
In the US? If not I can help you out.
-
The topic is very clearly marked and the guy's just sharing the work of his partner... Good luck to you and your wife mmbe. EDIT: removed potentially inflammatory comment.

I'm guessing you're in the US? If not, I'm back in the UK in a couple of days and have a spare with some games for the PAL region...

What was YOUR very first computer?

*Harrumphs in disdain...* Black & white on a 'colour' computer? Ha! -
What was YOUR very first computer?
PFL replied to OldSchoolRetroGamer's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
Another Vic 20 here and (of course, being my first) it's still my favourite 8 bit. I have respect for the others but nothing will ever touch that moment on Christmas morning 1984 when I hooked up that thing and saw the cyan and white glow for the first time. All computers should have a cyan border. Life would be better for everyone then. -
Is it fact that Nintendo Saved Gaming?
PFL replied to Jakandsig's topic in Classic Console Discussion
You know, I was going to respond to your points but why bother...
