  1. You replaced the OS ROM. The BASIC ROM above the OS doesn't seem to be working because you go straight to the self test instead of BASIC. If you could attach a SIO2PC/APE or a real floppy drive and boot DOS, you could enter a BASIC ON command. If you could get a DOS, you could load a file BASIC. You might be able to remove the BASIC chip and still be able to boot to a DOS. Something is wrong, I'm not sure what. If you take the BASIC out, it should go to the mem test. Try taking BASIC ROM out and see if a good mem test comes up.
  2. It seems that there is no BASIC. A normal startup of a 800XL is to go to the READY prompt. If you could hook a disk drive or APE device with DOS, you could type DOS commands. If you got to a normal command line, you could type BASIC ON, but I suspect it wouldn't enter BASIC. Are you sure you replaced the OS ROM, and not the BASIC ROM place?
  3. OK, right APE 3.02 is latest. I don't know what 'Win 7 starter 32-bit' is, if it isn't Win 7. I think the version for Win 7 at atarimax would work? Anyway, you know what you're trying to do, and I guess can't do it with what's available at atarimax. There are ways to start an application at bootup. I think all the APE versions are DOS versions. There's another possibility. my version of APE is registered. Maybe there are limitations to unregistered users.
  4. I'm not real clear on what you want. The APE/SIO2PC web page of Steve Tucker is : http://www.atarimax.com The latest SIO2PC program is APE 118. There's also respeqt sio2pc. https://github.com/jzatarski/RespeQt
  5. When I ran a BBS off the MIO, and really whenever I had it running for several hours, I always had a desk fan blowing across the setup. Right now, I don't run it at all, I'd have to find the power supply and hook it up. I remember being aware of heating. I don't remember ever updating the firmware. It has been so long. I expect it would have involved some special software to update it from ICD. (which became Fte). edit: I remember now about overheating. I had a floppy drive die on me. I think it was because of overheating. I ran a BBS before the MIO. Another name. Mike Hohman. I think he is the person who bought ICD and named it FTe.
  6. It is an early one, so I guess ZIP RAMs. Here's a pic. I value the omnimon a great deal. You can crack any cart with it. Well, you can dump any cart. Then you have to crack it.
  7. I don't know rarity. SpartaDOS X cart Omnimon XL 800XL R-Time 8 cart 1 meg MIO with 20 meg hard drive BASIC XE cart

  10. Complete list of Antic Magazines Antic began publication 4/82, Volume 1, Issue 1. They were bi-monthly for the first Volume, six issues. Starting 4/83 (Vol. 2:1), Antic became monthly. They published monthly until 9/89, missing only one month (5/84), making the volume year end with April issue instead of March issue. That's 65 consecutive monthly issues from 2:1 to 8:5. Starting 10-11/89, Antic became bi-monthly again (issue 8:6), and were bi-monthly for only 5 issues. Volume 8 only had 8 issues. 10-11/89 (8:6), 12-1/89-90 (8:7), 2-3/90 (8: 8 ), 4-5/90 (9:1) and 6-7/90 (9:2), <-- the last issue of a separate Antic. There was no 8-9/90 Antic. Then Antic was put as a section of STart magazine for 4 issues (10, 11, 12, 1/90-91). Then STart, still with an Antic 8-bit section, went bi-monthly for the last 2 issues (2-3/91 and 4-5/91) then STart folded and that was the end of Antic and STart. List of Issues/Volumes: Vol. 1 - Six issues (4-5/82, 1:1) to 2-3/83, 1:6) Vol. 2 - 12 issues, all monthly 4/83, 2:1 to 3/84, 2:12 Vol. 3 - 12 issues, but no 5/84, so Volume year now ends April instead of March. 4/84, 3:1, (no 5/84), 6/84, 3:2 to 4/85, 3:12. Vol. 4 - 12 issues, 5/85, 4:1 to 4/86, 4:12. Vol. 5 - 12 issues, 5/86, 5:1 to 4/87, 5:12. Vol. 6 - 12 issues, 5/87, 6:1 to 4/88, 6:12. Vol. 7 - 12 issues, 5/88, 7:1 to 4/89, 7:12. Vol. 8 - 8 issues. 5/89 (8:1), 6/89 (8:2), 7/89 (8:3), 8/89 (8:4), 9/89 (8:5), then bi-monthly 10-11/89 (8:6), 12-1/89-90 (8:7), 2-3/90 (8: 8 ). Vol. 9 - 2 issues. 4-5/90 (9:1), 6-7/90 (9:2) <-- Last issue of separate Antic. No 8-9/90 Antic. Then Antic was put as section of STart magazine for 4 monthly issues (10, 11, 12, 1/90-91). Then STart went bi-monthly (2-3/91 and 4-5/91) <-- Last issue of STart with Antic section. That's 94 issues total, including issues in STart, 88 separate issues of Antic. Russ Gilbert
  11. Same question. There are three different ROM chips on the board, 399B, 499B and 599B. Maybe your BASIC cart is a problem. Here's a DOS 2.5 with a binary load BASIC. DOS25.ATR
  12. Actually, my .BAS only goes to 19008. Still hoping to get upper lines or a more complete .BAS
  13. no wonder I can't get it to do anything. where are lines 20000 to 32011?
  14. I think error 164 means you didn't set the .atr image in your emulator to be writeable. Anyway. I did EGYPT.BAS and got a complete LIST and then a SAVEd BASIC. Here's a .ATR with the two on it. I didn't play the game, but it seems to be working. edit: As usual, when I don't test something before posting it, it doesn't work right. don't try to boot that .ATR. The LIST and BAS files on the .ATR are good, but load them after booting from a good boot image. ie. boot a good .ATR, then LOAD or ENTER from my .ATR MYEGYPT.ATR
  15. Yes, I don't remember if SALVAGE assigns variable names for all files, or just those with a mashed vnt. I think it restores names if the vnt is right.
  16. It's a 130XE. The MT memory chips are frequent problem. Maybe if you touch the chips, you will feel one or more getting warm. I don't know another way to check those chips. Well, you can see if they are MT chips by the logo on the chip. What would be great would be someone who knows what a logic probe or oscilloscope might tell you about the MT chips. OH! WAIT. I do have a Sam's for the 130XE. Here's the page about video. It won't help much unless you have good electronics technician skills. Another edit: GTIA and Antic are important video chips.Antic U7 and GTIA U17. How you check them? Uh, swap them with known good ones. Or check the waveforms with oscilloscope. Scan_Doc0001.pdf
  17. Yes, thanks. My salvage program will work on .BAS files that have been made unloadable. I remember a little. The main reason I wrote salvage was to recover .BAS files that got unloadable because of the 'add 16 bytes to the end' with every SAVE, eventually making the file unloadable. I think there were 'protection' schemes that mashed the variable name table. Salvage will work on those too. Also, you have to have two disk drives, one to read and one to write you specify with the 'filespec' inputs at start. Has to have 'D:READ.BAS' and D2:WRITE.LST for example.
  18. Here's a A8 program to salvage unloadable BAS files to a LISTed file. After the LIST file is complete, ENTER the file you created, which can be reSAVED then. Comment: I tried my salvage program in Altirra 2.70 and it gives ERROR # 163 at line 53. It is strange. I tried it in Atari800winplus 4 and it doesn't get that error. I think the OP is using a real Atari with a real disk drive, so it should work. Maybe some expert on Altirra can help me. SALVAGEX.ATR
  19. Yes, RW14B will get an error when determining single density, I believe. But the purpose is to determine bytes/sector, which it gets as 128. Also, the copy ENTIRE disk only does 720 sectors. I believe, if you want to copy an ED 1020 sectors, you use 'Partial Copy' and give the correct number of sectors. I never ran into an ED disk, so I didn't think ENTIRE DISK would be other than 720 sectors, .... or something. I will try to hunt up an ED .atr to play with. Can't seem to find an ED .ATR. You got one? Otherwise, I'll have to fire up my 1050 and format one and make an .ATR out of it.
  20. Here's mine. RW14B.COM on a MyDOS453.ATR RW.zip
  21. I'm sure you have tested the power supply brick. The plug should be about 10.6 volts AC with no load on it. It supplies 5 v dc, inside the computer I think. That's with a NTSC power brick.
  22. The 10K ROM has to be in the front slot. The cartridge has to be in the left slot. The cart door has to be shut.
  23. Let's see. You have the ROM card in front slot, at least one RAM card in behind the ROM. You have the cartridge door shut. Your cartridge is in the left slot. ? there is no RF port, where you gonna get a RF output? You ordered a RF adapter. Does that provide RF from the 5 pin monitor port? Or maybe PAL 800 has RF. I'm in NTSC land. No, sorry, the RF comes out the center of the back via a RF cable. Your RF adapter goes on the TV.
  24. logic probe... http://www.electronicsurplus.com/philips-pr31-logic-pulser-probe hook the black clip to a ground, any bare metal on the board. hook the red clip to a power point. lots of places. I forget how to find one. I think it is called a 'vcc' point. then just touch a pin on a chip to read it.
