  1. "I guess he's an Xbox, and I'm more Atari." Story of my life, there.

  2. Oh, believe me- I have no intention to mimicking Mr. Rolfe's style in terms of humor or presentation. That format is his, and I don't want to look like an also-ran to his formula. As for the defecation onto the Jaguar CD, I think he was mainly playing on the unfortunate design flaw that Atari had for the Jaguar CD by having it look like a toilet; as well as venting his frustration on having both CD peripherals not working (I seriously think it was a problem with his Jaguar console, but I don't know much about hardware). You could tell from his tone beforehand that he really wanted to review the Jaguar CD, and given the lengths he went through towards getting it to work (even getting the maker of the Nintoaster to check the hardware for him and buying a SECOND CD peripheral), it's clear that he wanted this to be a complete review. It's among the reasons I want to help him out with my little video. This will be my first review (and my first video since 2003), so it may not have any established humor, but I'll try to keep it as lighthearted as possible. Thanks for the suggestions. Keep 'em coming. UA
  3. Greetings, all. Ultimate Atarian here. I'm sure you all have seen the James Rolfe's "Angry Video Game Nerd" review of the Atari Jaguar. I personally thought that the review was quite level-headed and even-handed. It was critical, of course, and it did have his irreverent scatological humor, but it was also provided a good backstory on why the system failed in the market, and it did feature a few of the better games for the system. One thing I was really disappointed in was the fact that James was unable to review the Jaguar CD because he couldn't get the thing to work properly. This was of no fault of his, of course- the Jaguar CD does have a relatively high percentage of defective units. However, mine has worked since 1996. I e-mailed James offering to send my Jaguar CD to him to do a potential follow up video. He politely declined- citing that if I did send it to him, it might stop working simply by being in his presence. Which is understandable. Ever since then, I considered the possibility of doing a video review of the JagCD myself. It would act not as a rebuttal to James' video, but as a compliment to it- filling in the holes that James was unable to cover. This is where you come in. I have a general idea on what I would like to see in the video, but I could use some assistance on covering topics that I may not have thought of or reviewing titles I'm not familiar with. I don't want to go too inside-baseball with the review, since non-Jaguar fans will either be bored or confused with the terminology. However, I want to make this review of the Jaguar CD as complete as possible. So if you have any suggestions, you can write a response to this post on what you would like to see. If you have any links or e-mail addresses to people that could help me further in my research, that will be fantastic, too. Here's a general outline of what I'm planning to do: I) Intro and Titles II) Shout out to the Nerd and acknowledgment of the original Jaguar review III) Jag CD History IV) Game Reviews V) VLM VI) Homebrew activity? VII) Closing Remarks and end credits So yeah, let me know what else you'd like to see (and how it would fit in with this outline). I'm hoping to have a shooting script complete by the end of September and complete it by the end of this year- hopefully around the time of the AVGN's review of the Jaguar appears on YouTube for the first time, if not beforehand. Thanks for your time. Fard Muhammad
  4. As JI-2's Minux once said "I will not pay hi ags for BattleSphere"
  5. In March 2000, BattleSphere, the game that pushed the Jaguar's 3D and networking capabilities to its limits, was released by a plucky threesome of developers known as 4Play/ScatoLOGIC (Scott "BattleSphere Bob" LeGrand, Stephanie "Steffo of the Cleffo" Wukovitz, and Doug "Thunderbird" Engel). After years of coding in their spare time and confronting adversity at every corner (lack of tech support from Atari, Hasbro's unwillingness to cooperate in Jaguar affairs, cracking the Jaguar's encryption key, opportunistic hardware manufacturers, etc.), the fruits of their labor finally came to light in the form of one of the most critically-acclaimed and sought-after Jaguar games released after the system's demise in 1996. The very first released cartridge of the game was sold on eBay for over $1600 (with the proceeds going to juvenile diabetes research). You knew that someone was a seriously committed Jaguar fan if they plunked down the $160 for a cartridge during the initial release of the game. Other editions soon followed (BattleSphere Gold in 2002, and the ultra-rare one-of-a-kind BattleSphere Trio in 2006). On this momentous occasion in Jaguar history, I'd like to wish all those who have experienced the game a Happy 10th, and I offer each of the developers and others who helped release the game a 64-bit kiss. fm
  6. I'm not sure if it's even possible, but I'd like to get another CD copy of Iron Soldier II (if only to get the soundtrack). It appears my copy has been scratched beyond recognition, so I need another CD. Checked eBay, but none were available. Not sure if Telegames offers a copy anymore either. Are there any other avenues I could pursue? fm
  7. It was only a matter of time before I make my response. Yes, you may remember me as "the UA" back in the olden days of JI2. I was a fresh-faced kid still in high school when I discovered that there were other fans of Atari out there. The Inter-net was still a novel concept to me, but when I saw there was a forum of fellow Jaguar fans out there, I was hooked. Who can't forget people like Steffo of the Cleffo, Thunderbird, BSB, Monkey, Minux (who still refuses to pay hi ags for BattleSphere), W3Z, K3V, Carl, ET Hunter, Marshall, Dr. Clu, and the people from the Jagfests/CGE who posted here. It was through that site that fostered my plans to rebuild Atari back in 1997 with my "Redemption" plan, and made my short CG movies in 1997 and 1999. I still remember those days quite fondly... theUA
  8. November 4 is truly a day to be remembered for many of us here in the Forums. For it is the 15th Anniversary of the official release of the Atari Jaguar 64-Bit Interactive Multimedia System. I think there's also some sort of election going on today, but I haven't read the papers in a while. Those who may remember me from the old Jaguar Interactive boards would know that I have been known to make small computer generated movies to commemorate these sorts of events. Sadly, my life outside of video games has had a much higher priority, so I have nothing to show to commemorate this auspicious occasion. However, it is truly remarkable that after all this time (especially after Atari itself folded into obscurity in 1996) that there are still people out there who still enjoy the cool games the system had- and some others are attempting to create their own cool games on the system now. To all those who still appreciate the Jaguar even after Atari itself didn't, I'd like to wish you a happy anniversary.
