  1. Actually, sounds pretty easy and straight foward. I'm getting an encoder, joystick, buttons and the wiring kit from ultimarc... 100 bucks I found the plans for the midway cabinet that I want on the net. You can use a computer monitor, and run arcadeos with DOS, no need for windows, but you need a soundcard like a Soundblaster 16 or similar that with work with DOS. MAME loves RAM and a good video card (I'm using an old TNT2 with 32 megs and works just nice) It all pretty much depends of what you want. I saw tons of cabinets with 20 joysticks and 300 buttons to play every single rom. I like vertical shooters and ms pacman, so mine is going to be to play those games. Read a lot, there's a lot of info in the net. I'm ansy to get this project going, I been messing with MAME since 97, and a cab is a long dream of mine.
  2. I totally dislike cabinets like that big big time... I'm going with a midway pac/galaga cab since most of the games I play are vertical shooters
  3. I'm building my own, I placed the order with ultimarc for the parts Tuesday and I'm hoping in getting the wood today. I'm using plans that I found for a galaga machine on the net.
  4. dang... I tried to connect twice, for some reason the PC hangs up bad when I try to telnet something with APE... I'm using dialup, could that be the problem?
  5. Well, no, I didnt' call an operator. I did spoke a while ago with a guy that restores arcades and had a gutted pacman for 75 bucks, but that was a while ago. The mame machine I found, not good, he's using a computer monitor instead of the original arcade monitor. I found some plans on the net, and as soon as I get some extra cash, I'm building my own.
  6. Hi Flack, yeah I was checking their website the other day and the next one is Aug 5th. The guy selling the Mame maching says he used a regular computer monitor, but the mame machine has a i-pac. I think I'm going to wait a little bit see if I can find a gutted cab, since I have the computer already.
  7. I was just thinking yesterday in looking for a IIs on eBay, but I came to the conclussion that I have enough crap already in here I'm trying to get rid of the stuff I don't use, and make some $$$ to get that mame cab
  8. I found a boxed DC complete with keyboard and a game for 29.99 three years ago in a pawnshop. You know what I hate? Indoors fleamarkets. Those jerkoff owners overinflate prices big time, and they get first hands on video games/interesting stuff from the guys selling crap outside.
  9. Well, looks like I got lucky. I found a guy selling a street figther 2 converted into a Mame machine using the original monitor (seems kinda small though), 299 bucks for it. I don't like the cab, but is a start.

    lol

My theory is that he didn't know that the all black 2600 is also called 'darth vader' and when someone pointed out the ti-99 stick, and he tried to make a 'joke' with that...
  11. yeah, the seller changed the format. I don't know, some people don't know jack chit about atari carts, but I think this seller *knows* about carts, he has quite a few video game related auctions going on.

    lol

what's so 'lol' about it... and don't tell me is the ti-99 joystick. b You probably don't know the difference in the first place...
  15. I though about using a jamma cab, but the cabinet I want has to be a pacman or ms pacman or a galaga. I don't like cabinets that put the monitor right up to your face.
  16. well if I get one or the other one, I will probably not gutted, but is so hard to find an empty cabinet, is like people don't list them for sale... I'm just looking for the cabinet without the PBCs... oh well, I guess I'll keep on looking
  17. Should I sacrifice a working Popeye to make a MAME machine? or a DigDug for that matter? Each cabinet is 200 bucks if I decided to get one, but I don't know about gutting a working machine... Opinions? Thoughts?

  21. I used to go to taco bell... until the commercials fed me up, the same with McDonals 'i'm lovin it' ... the ones from hardees and Ford's with that dumb ass that won the american idol crap... I just don't eat on those places anymore and I don't see me driving a Ford in my future neither.
  22. Thanks, is a great looking system and IMO the video looks much better than with the regular A/V of the 800XL.
