  1. Sparta DOS, SDX, MyDOS, DOS XE, OSS A+, DOS XL, DOS 2.5, LITE DOS, xBIOS, DOS 4 (Antic), DOS 4.x we use them all, but the first half or so on the list is used most by the world. I could have kept going because we use them all for the most part. Each has their uses.
  2. Toss aside one of the best metal cages ever made. yeah I'm going to have to ignore this one, pulling the rip cord now. punching out.
  3. that also depends on the disk set up. in any event, almost everything was configurable to a degree on these old machines, so when you say there was no standard for this or that, well that's true for almost anything, but there were ranges of addresses settable via dip switches and jumpers that sort of became 'settled' over time. as to memory, 256k and 1 MG boards were commonly in use, and easily purchased both static and dynamic from multiple sources here in the states as well as a number of video cards and specialty cards. Like every other machine, how you decided to implement things were up to you but there were still ranges to stay within if you wanted everything to work. http://www.s100computers.com/Hardware Index Page.htm http://www.s100computers.com/index.html http://dunfield.classiccmp.org/s100c/index.htm endless sites like the above all with different cards etc to peruse for the best choices to make a multi-function card or remake of a great old card for a chuckle, everyone has the most... https://www.eevblog.com/forum/vintage-computing/probably-the-most-sophisticated-cpm-80-machine-ever-made/
  4. um okay, sounds nice and all but you would only really see the side boards, I wouldn't change a thing about the cage the 800 main and sub boards are in.

  6. These are good tools for a program based diagnosis suite. Continuing further with more test programs of this nature tailored to each chips failure modes would indeed be useful. Nice job all!
  7. Good stuff, If people were not such butt heads about things, you're fun would not be diminished and better things would happen. I send Heaven/TQA Greetinx, and chaplin Fu*kinx. Thank you for sharing your happiness with us, I was pleasantly surprised. _T D__
  8. Looks like someone really cares about their work, I'd definitely give it a thumbs up. Get one if you can guys!
  9. Once machine is working, You can use an inverted aero duster to spray (freeze spray) components to find a thermally faulty chip or connection. Hit each component once at a time, and each connection pad one at a time. Usually a chip that fails hot will start working a chip that works hot but fails when cold will stop working.
  10. NOOOOOOO. You should not purposely flex PCB, you can break connections, traces, and loosen failing or unseen things, possibly upset a weak swipe even (as seen on 1200XLs) best to take readings while working, write them down. If it fails again, you can compare readings and find what changed.
  11. Intermittent connection in the area, PCB flexed during insertion, stayed connected when pulled.
  12. was there never a fix to autolog or just have a relog before disk operations. I might have recently forgot that step and killed a disk, face palm palm face.
  13. Check if your machine has proper Freddie decoupling cap there were routing errors for connecting on some PCB's adding some of the components back for the crystal clock even with an oscillator present can help also.
  14. will the card allow the z80 to access additional ram etc for mdisk (ramdisk etc?) of cpm fame?
  15. it will all end up on theftbay, where the fence and pawn are one and the same.
  16. Close, you need to read more slowly the hint hint hints. No hint on a correct line but hint on something that needs a look or possible change.
  17. Make sure all .jeds, all firmware, and all plugins are up to date. those that report all works for them please list your running revision number of all those that report all do not work please list your running revision number of all plus example attachments of files that failed to launch remember not everything likes basic, pbi, high sio, SDX, or all memory extension choices.
  18. this ain't new, remember when they blocked .exe and the like? well now they are .xex don't feel like we all want to make bin into ibn nib or inb. They're idiots, so maybe we work around it and let them know how silly it is and why it never worked when they tried this ineffective annoyance years earlier with other extensions. Most hacks name crap as a harmless file type anyway... like .tmp test.dat and so on. These guys are elementary lame.
  19. plain deoxit without the protectant/lube followed by the methods I outlined and gave links to in the past. I can't remember at the moment but they are in the forum. once done you won't have to keep at it no where near as much again.
  20. Someone made a carrier box that nicely attached to the vent holes and allowed the lights and switches to be in that, looked fine. Maybe it needs recreation? So print whole bezel or print snap on bezel box
  21. Many of these carts do not take signal timing length into consideration for data transfer. The 800 cart port is slightly different spec due to ras cas rather than phi on cart port ultimate cart gets it correct others can do the same if coded like ult and another that get it right. else you have to modify cart slot signal with wire or upgrade needs to do this for you which some do. Some might have fixed this with a jed update or or cart boot file on SD etc
  22. – POWER LED: anode (longer leg) through resistor approx. 1 kΩ to supply +5V, cathode (shorter leg) to ground (GND) – ACTIVITY LED: anode (longer leg)through 470 Ω resistor to +5V, while the cathode to RX output on Arduino board (HINT HINT HINT) also you can put another resistor value (higher) or have another in series to dim them and keep from drawing to much power from the arduino or power source. (hint)
  23. also, most SD card readers don't need the menu selection system and can't set images without it, The ones without displays of any kind might require the menu but it's up to them to find a solution. Once he image is selected, the machine won't be using any of that menu memory anyway.
  24. A Popeye enhancement of saving the scores?
