swap issues part 2: the empire strikes back
_The Doctor__ replied to Badwolf's topic in #FujiNet SIO Network Adapter
some games used to be made for 2 drive and it asks for you to flip disk 2 to side b or disk1 to side a etc. so you toggle once instead of 3 or more times for each request, then when it asks for a character or save disk you can rotate instead of flip. I understand his pain, as I used to play multidisk games by interstel that were flipping nightmares -

swap issues part 2: the empire strikes back
_The Doctor__ replied to Badwolf's topic in #FujiNet SIO Network Adapter
Good news is you have the buttons and the logic. bad news is 8 drives minimum to be enough for some BBS's and such. Drive 1 and Drive 2 are the only ones that would ever need more than 2 disks with two sides all other Drives would be fine with 1 disk and 2 sides. This would then cascade into a Disk set file of sorts if you wanted to give the mice everything so they wouldn't ask for milk with the cookie -
more correct is actually to JSR to JMP (DOSVEC) because the call can return is what he ultimately states. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Put an 'RTS' at $3400 and the real run address somewhere else. This makes OS/A+ happy: the issue is that OS/A+ calls the first load address and then calls the run address you put at $2e0. responds you need a segment below $3400 in order for DOS to detect that DUP.SYS needs to be reloaded. If you just overwrite MEMLO to $33FF, it'll just crash on return DOS can be intact... but DUP.SYS or Command Processor etc. is not DOS exactly. Are you saying you want to get back to Menu System, DUP.SYS or Command Prompt etc?

I believe we are focused on in game, game-play music and the wonderful atmosphere and ambiance it is providing. Title screen / Main Screen music is a nice build up. I like the Amiga Title/Main screen jungle feel as well, both the Amiga and Atari 8 gameplay music is fitting. The '64 seems like title main screen continues into gameplay and is taken to some sort of astral plane in space. I think that was the observation/feeling about it.

Wow the Atari 8 version music is a much better fit, it really adds to the game. Amiga does the same and seems playful. I have no idea what c64 peeps were thinking.

EVERYTHING on ATR? Is It Possible?
_The Doctor__ replied to SoulBuster's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
sometimes listing to disk, reloading using enter after a cold start and then saving the program helps them work as well. Directly saving them sometime allows a bit of flaky leavings to come along with the now freed BASIC program -
The simple least intrusive unit I've seen is the AVG cartridge. I'd get started with that, want more? Buy a SIO cord for it, want more? Buy a PBI cord for it, still want more? Buy a Sound Cord for it! What you end up with? An 800XL with the ability to run Just about anything without major surgery upgrading as you go. You get stereo sound and optional sound mods You get large extended memory You the ability to use disk images including .atx's You get the ability to run just about any cartridge type You get the ability to use it as a mass storage device (hard drive) either with sofware driver or in use with other upgrade method that supports sIDE PBI drives. and so on. Stack-able cart images etc etc.

Next 1090XL/1091XL board to develop?
_The Doctor__ replied to reifsnyderb's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
What if the FujiNet dumped it's information to a 1090 RAM card as fast as possible and you banked it in? be funny as all get out to see avery's video player with the 1090 sending transcoded video to the Atari. Who knows how insane the applications could be. -
Putting 22kb of char data into a 64kb machine?

Still, if he pulls off what he attempting, then slowly compacts things down until it works as intended, he might do something quite nice and pick a new sweet spot for a balance we've not seen. Most people haven't attempted this in the way he has, it might turn out to be something good and find an overlooked avenue to get some unexpected result. Either way valuable knowledge is imparted, success or not. -
dirty card edge, dirty cart connector, or slightly damaged connector pressure due to non chamfered cart edges etc. cord solder joints cartridge case forcing eneven fit/pressured on contacts etc etc. f08 needed, mass needed.... on and on so maybe lots of use flexed, cleaned up, or changed cart clearance angle etc.

Yup that's the way it should be.

JACS and JACG seems different to me. -
TF_HH shows a fix on XEGS machines with keyboard related issues by adding a couple of components, it's on the forums. Whenever an XEGS rolls through, I look it up. I think TF_HH material is a go to for what to do on any machine before doing anything else upgrade wise. Do his fixes and touches first and build on that. You will be so much happier in the long run. A tf_hh compendium guide should be made for the masses

That's already the case in a great number of areas, and the more people wish to make that a part of the model and make broad statements as many times as possible, the more likely it will trend... much like it already has in those other areas. I'd prefer to go about life based on first hand experience. I don't know the next mythical group or class one will be defending but maybe someone should teach the model to just avoid the topic of classification of people, period. For those who insist, maybe it should just stick to statistics per capita within a classification and percentages of affectation of the whole of said group when dealing with disease, crime, illness, etc. That might be useful. For now the model being taken is not very good. I still get a kick out of it being referred to as artificial intelligence. -

Not paying attention to what is developing in the area of A.I. (such as they are calling it) is how it can go wrong very quickly. People already use it to cheat on term papers, it already makes terrible statements, it also makes terrible pseudo Atari 8 bit programs etc. I think we need to worry about it enough to get a handle on it, before it becomes something more ugly than it already is. -

Most people get along just fine, it's when the powers that be pit one another against each other for power that things go wrong. It's almost always the 'I will unite the people' crowd that deliberately make sure they won't in policy. If you want to make it about ideology, look no further than the current mess. I find it interesting the turn made so that the discussion would be shifted into talk of 'hateful ideology' of which was not the discussion. Maybe someone has politics on the mind. Let's consider what people see when something is going on around them and make the determination about how the group they are observing is. I think that is prudent. Pretending otherwise is done at your peril where most of us have grown up. Someone who hasn't lived it might consider what they perceive based on reports and platitudes more truthful than what the reality is. So let's just stick to the problem of A.I. and the topic at hand. -

yes crowded out, happens even against popular things when a campaign against it and for another widget is done. The output is always skewed in such models. It simply isn't intelligent, it only follows, it does not lead, it does not think. It is a popularity difference engine that leads to viral outputs. The dumbest things on the planet come from this model not only in electronic computation but as seen in recent years, organics as well. How do so many people and kids fall prey to the so called 'challenges' that harm themselves. They don't think, they just ride the wave to their own demise. The popular model feeds itself making things more popular than they should be as it makes what it sees as a possible trend to become the trend. If enough people claim the earth is flat, AI will eventually say it is. We already have people who believe this is the case. This is defective reasoning and thinking, the stuff of fiction. It is built on faulty logic, and does not have the ability to reason. Not unlike those creating it. -

Broken GTIA chip on Atari 800XE?
_The Doctor__ replied to drunkeneye's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
No, it would be present right now, as it was a manufactured defect, present at the chips birth. Since you don't have it, it's not an issue. I thank you for giving the simple try first, these often become laborious goose chases of self inflicted damage. You kept it simple and had a great result!
