    yeah you hot swapped over-top of stuff, and it's sets up slightly different. Hot swapping is permissible on the Atari but generally you should take steps to handle it more safely (think in terms of AtariMax flasher program on the Atari) it sets up for a safe hot plug....

    Pretty much I use an original 800 and Ultima III is one of those games I still play, and I was surprised by the sample output.  I did spend some time today in Altirra with the game and was impressed how thorough Phaeron was in emulating the colors.  Under the view menu, you can choose "Adjust Colors..." and then set the preset to many choices, including NTSC, PAL, XE or XL or 800.  I've attached screenshots of the 3 different presets for XE, XL, and 800.  Based on this, I can see why there is so much confusion about which are the "correct colors".  It really depends on the machine you use.

    as stated but in picture form, thanks for the post, maybe that will help the understanding. and there is an inversion out there of the 800 and a third artifact not discussed, a picture is worth many words

    the best I can think of is that config stay out of it... just let polled driver or whatever truly is needed without all that other crap loading as a Waldorf sandwich, the whole process is so full of reboot, reset what have you, it's quite inconvenient and daunting... the config blended and hiding in there... it just needs to stay away completely unless purposefully called either by the tools, button, poll whatever. It's getting in it's own way.

    no! config should just not come up at all unless called the other ways... it gets in the way of cartridges that will happily load polled drivers, devices and DOS... currently it gets in the way, why must we boot into the config and reset... it is not needed. Some carts when turned off or reset while doing other stuff don't turn back on, or you may be able to run some utility and reset... it's a mess.  cold Boot config reset warm boot(if the cart didn't die during the fight) load some utils attempt to turn cart back on reboot did it die?   issue for Orion/OSS/reeve/sparta/music/atariwriter... and on and on... work your way through the versions... some revs may some may not but it doesn't have to be this way..

    all or nothing, in and out of a web interface isn't nearly ideal either..

    the config mounted disk slots should persist through power offs was a discussion

    the device should only be loading in the bare minimum to make it simply work (it should just work credo)...

    the config should not appear unless called...

    config should be able to be loaded/called in by some other means none the less...  as is customary... by way of a poll, software, sio command, and or as a button held at power up.

     

    before we hear about whatever tool exists... consider these in the context of norms and without the need of some web interface. I'd even consider using a configuration port where we use a terminal on the Atari or Another Atari to play with things.

     

    we don't need config popping up at every power on as the os runs polling or DOS poll scans occur... it just needs to make itself available and dump in it's needed bits... not launch the config program...

     

    this is part of the reason SD/SDX flavors and certain cartridges fail... Nothing is inherently wrong with all the parts, they just need to be broken up and made more transparent in some cases and invisible in others...

    another idea would be to use a poll or command to activate config... leaving config invisible until doing so.. and to further make it a user friendly device.. holding one of it's buttons to launch config... in one form or another like almost any other device...

     

    maybe @tschak909 will pass by some of the discussions here and there and consider the ideas, and experiences. It's food for thought

    I asked for that, was told it was a good idea... don't know if it happened. I am now fujinet-less and will remain so for some time it would seem. But the idea remains a good one. If the fujinet is usb powered it retains stuff as it's still on though...  which is what most people do for now...

     

    also update your fujinet, as sio uart and other things such of soft reset are fixed again. it may help for some issues

    why not adjust the pokeymax core /or it's support board if not possible/ to emulate a real pokey in that way so as not to require hacking hardware... these pokey max more than likely will end up in arcade cabinets as well and the issue might rear it's ugly head... many of those guys do no want alterations to the circuits if at all.

    I prefer to have just the idea and outline of the offering, you want to get interest in your work but not give away anything until contest day.

    When it's all out there, it seems to discourage a great deal of competition...

    The only way around that is to make up levels...

    beginner through expert... for coders to compete in.

    Artifacting was different as I stated for a number of reasons. Artifacting was also listed out for folks by machine and what you should see the last time we  re visited this. The were also instructions on how some software let you invert the artifact from it's own start up. Some let you use a key combo to do it others only offered it on initial unused copy run. I have also shown that you can change capacitors on the XL and XE to change the artifact colors somewhat. Bryan did a nice job with the UAV and even listened to my discussions, he included another artifact representation as a result, and allowed for inversion etc. The uav did not include an external switch to include all artifact color choices / modes however.... but I wish it would have, the 800 had two different artifact results over time and the result was the software asking which you saw and swapped it. The XL's did another color, as did the XE line.. this resulted in some interesting discussion about artifacts, the reason and causes. You don't have a one size fits all solution but you could. The UAV was the only device that tried to handle all of it and it did a pretty good job. You can alter the machines to mimic each other to a degree. So yes this is as far as you are going to go without a soldering iron and physically changing stuff.

     

    Just for fun, load up Jingle disk on all the different machines and let the story play...see what that looks like... include an XL in the mix

    Great game, I wish all of the productive good and constructive postings be moved into another thread for the author(s) of the game to read, enjoy, and be encouraged by. With the original topic name.

     

    The sh*t show version of posts should remain in it's own thread as an example of why threads get locked and get a critical review complete with notes inserted to point out how not to be. With the topic reflecting it's purpose!

    The op said he didn't find fujinet in so many words an avenue he was going down, he did use APE and found it fun but wanted the nostalgic dot matrix noise, action and feel... I followed the OP  and others during the thread including folks who want to fix up their gear.

     

    While I highly recommend the fujinet, I don't make it a forceful point and certainly don't ignore the entirety of a thread to promote it. I think I followed the discussion very closely. Did you?
