600XL 1064 expansion board 1090 expansion (though cancelled) pbi diagnostic board for the 800XL eci cart pbi diagnostic board for the 130XE ICD MIO within 4 years CSS immediately after that internal test sets and fixtures manufacturing test fixtures. modern day stuff like larger memory expansions across the lines, diagnostics like syscheck, as well as a multitude of storage solutions both hard disk and floppies and on and on... yeah I think we've got it going on. there were mods for the 800 and the 1200XL to add the bus to them... with incognito the pbi is also supplied on the 800... This is just what popped into my head in seconds.... I sure there is much more I haven't mentioned and though I've made mention of previously, like custom manufacturing/factory pbi interfaces and cards... cable television system units... many more. Yes the 800line the XL line the XE line ran factories, cnc machines, you name it. Some were PBI some were bus, some sio, and some i/o port... and some utilized all of the above. It's safe to say PBI was used very much by both the earlier home Atari users as well as those in Professional settings, not to mention the Factory floor... I really have to agree that if someone thinks all of this and the pbi should be tossed out, perhaps they really should consider the 5200 as their main machine... oh but wait there is the expanded 5200 cartridge path and what's that... there is a connect and port for expansion on the 5200 as well... oh no...

Yup, but the cartridge is ever so handy and fast at your fingertips...especially when the hard drive isn't responding and you don't have the drives and floppies ready to go
-
they'll never beat the necro responses for the first couple posts... at least this one was relevant. You are correct. I think we have a contest. In this instance though, it's a new member answering questions in the order they were received. Kudos!

But if someone does a search the case is closed for this thread, it actually was answered for all to see.

where might the xex's be, I quite like this...my laptop probably doesn't do any of these justice.

MIO DIAG is handy to have, if you own a MIO, you should have one of the carts, or it's image for your own solution.

I have seen many a video issue come down to the quality, impedance, and shielding of a monitor cable. Try some different ones out. different modern displays interact as well, so once you have a good cord, see which monitor looks best. if it all still looks terrible no matter what... time to investigate your Atari.

I gave some input about these to the maker, unless it's been tweaked... they didn't quite line up as they should for stacking... it wasn't all just about the pass through connector but rather the tab holes on the pcb edge side of the cart... If it hasn't changed, you will have to do a little bit of a widening of the car tab/wing holes and work a little to center the pcb... after that if the pass through connector is not perfectly centered and straight on your cart- you will have to trim a little there as well... if you do not, after repeated insertions the fatigue from the connector and pcb twisting weakens the connection. If the cart tower is more than two the angled pcbs will lean and stress the eci/pbi adapter connector on a 130XE if you use one... It's a good start, just be aware of what you will have to do.

Just fold the only the parts of suggestions that make sense to you... it's good to keep both ideas yours' and ours' in mind.

That's why it's best to continue as we are since closed material is closed. Make the best and possibly better replacement board that is possible avoiding such worries- ITX or Drop in form factor doesn't matter for context... this reminds me of people copying cartridges, re-re-routing, moving some traces and saying it's their ip right on down to the eprom they burned to put in it when it's not. Why people say the things they say tickles the funny bone. Whoever makes the best quality board wins in the hobby world. I think santosp will have my money because he has a track record of making correct choices and is a quality person.

I didn't say it was undocumented, I say in so many words it wasn't documented well, but furthermore it certainly wasn't widely available and it varied based on machine as to what is available at the interface itself. The information that has come since then and the archeology of Curt, Myself, and Others in an attempt to bring the expansion box to life for all sure makes it look great now. It certainly hadn't been since it's roll out and introduction...

The OS manual was riddled with mistakes and many were corrected and updated over time... let's not forget the missing addendums and the like that have slowly been folded back in to the current repositories. How much of the PBI OS manual is ... too say the least... incomplete or not entirely how it appears? I can see both points of view, but in the end a combination of all these documents need to be brought together and correct each others errata ... what looks good on paper didn't always translate to what was or is... even at the timing and signal level... unless you go for the very best chips and parts that would fit the bill, even though in oem manufacture that did not always happen. I think avery/phaeron has done an excellent job of doing this to date, and with good reasoning and discussion other fix ups and documentation will be added to handle the current issue at hand and other discussions around it.

The US doubler emulation disk generally sets the indus up for any DOS that recognizes and uses USD skew and speed....at least that's the idea. So you aren't tied to any specific cart DOS. It loads in the time it takes to find your other disk and get around to booting in any event. It's a pretty nice solution... though indus speeds are faster and the buffer is outstanding, USD dominated the drive upgrades so if you looking for the compromise or want a faster speed with more DOS variants as most didn't support indus... this is the answer. If your only using SDX with the INDUSX driver then the disk isn't necessary but it sure is handy to have around. It's my indus turn on disk

so if you give him the name of the file he can just go in and delete it, then try again... correct? -

FujiNet v1.3 Hardware Release

If after you solder the pins it still fails, consider trying a different faster or slower usb port and/or a powered usb hub as it's helped other projects using these boards -
FujiNet Update Flasher Problem
_The Doctor__ replied to gandalf1369's topic in #FujiNet SIO Network Adapter
for others that are having issues, try a slower or faster usb port on your flashing pc, you could also try using a powered usb hub... it's helped other trying to program other projects on these boards.... -
Yeah I didn't get back to fix my post and the edit window closed... so any way... clean the head with a single sided cleaning disk or cover the top hole of a double sided cleaning disk with a smooth non binding material for the felt to slide on.... and no taped adhesive should be exposed to the cleaning disk material for to stick too.. most cleaning disks will say double sided but have a punch out for the top jacket to use in that fashion... so when you buy them they are single sided until you remove the punch out to make them double sided do not remove the punch out or if it is open already cover it as described above.

there is a limit to how many keys can be stored, and you shouldn't be using someone else's key, if the first key is used each time it leads to a time out for the key and if they were all stored in a pool... you would have to try another api key after a failure, or randomize which key is used on each launch or call of the software. deep breathe as well I don't remember anyone saying the keys are stored on the local device and then loaded by the external software for it's use. If it is supposed to do that, that's great. He still can't get that to happen evidently... There has to be a reason why the software works for some and not others... Perhaps it's working with all things local and writable, and can't pull the local data for some path issue... Perhaps there is a need to test that out and make sure it's working the way you implied. -
I think I see the spindle shaft still there... inside the coil of the spring, so you should be able to center it in the hole and close the door. It should then protrude through the hole. If it does not then you will have to push it up from underneath until it does again... as it might have been pushed through the collet a little bit. It will push back up though... then re affix the circlip... the spindle shaft might resist slightly... the spring is a bit stiff... but you will get it back together.

Replacing the 130XE MMU amd EMMU with GAL chips
_The Doctor__ replied to morelenmir's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Freddy is the cost reduced part, I'd just put the normal Atari memory management back in... the gal thing is as I stated a little bit off (unless something is different with the new offerings...) but so long as we can still choose which way to go on the PCB it really shouldn't matter anyway.. -
oh no it's not the cam! it's the spindle! do not apply power til you find the metal circlip that came off! I have never seen one come off on it's own... perhaps some one took it apart to lubricate and did not refasten it fully! If you find it you will more than likely just be able to snap it back on fully and be none the worse for wear.
