the networking function becomes active when a wired ethernet connection is attached on xp in respeqt so it needs work to make it realize a wireless network is up and connect to it.... in vista it detects both without a problem... right now the R: emulation is broken the networking is to connect to that device for modem, telnet, tty, device control etc...

@sup8pdct That's good information, could you dump the complete 1.61 rom, I think Mathy might add it to his repository and list... off hand do you know the differences between 1.61 and the other roms? I will try two different things then, use different loading and clearing the ram locations from $400 to $97FF... Thank you once more! -The Doctor__ -
Way to go luckybuck, long time no see! then when we do see you come bearing gifts, the best way to make an entrance!

rather than dropping every 6th frame completely how about a 1 delay in each odd frame and a 2 delay in each even frame? just a silly thought

The 800XL became the swiss army knife of Atari, so many modification for it, all the software appeared to either work on it or could be made to work on it.... I have often wondered why The Tail of Beta Lyrae always works on my 800XL's and 1200XL for that matter but not on my XE's... I mean the XL has a memory upgrade that works fine with all the XE stuff.. but TTBOL still doesn't work correctly on the 130XE's. rock solid cartridge and expansion ports on the XL... The 800 was the original swiss army knife... With the icognito it hase reclaimed the crown... All of the 800 and XL XE goodness and hardware wrapped up in the best chassis all four ports and yes pbi... what more could the 8 bit be.. Love the 800 all over again.... The fires burn bright once more!

Burning programs on Atarimax 8Mbit Flash Cartridges
_The Doctor__ replied to awesp's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
check the atarimax forums the maker of the carts I believed offered help not only with using his menu system but also with disk/cart emulation at one time. -
Dunjonquest? Anyone know about these?
_The Doctor__ replied to Draugr's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Over the years I have noticed some people remember a game having more to them than others and the common thing has been tapes versus disks... I always thought disk meant more data so better game but soon found in older software more available memory in the machine meant more in the game.... so tape ended up sometimes with more than disk in terms of actual game or application on the machine... It would be a great project to have all tapes vs disks versions of games played and compared to see the differences... might just be a screen or feature or intermission animations but it sure makes a game more complete, fun and interesting with it all in... well worth the load time of a cas image imho... and with todays magic, an extremely tiny loader could make full tape versions available on disk with all that 8k of goodness added back in! -
Atari 800 - Best Game Pack : Releases
_The Doctor__ replied to starwindz's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I downloaded both...installed both.and had emulators crash. so I let it do the .5 update. and it was working... I put beta 3 in and the emulator went back to ver 2.4 instead of 2.5 I am confused... Maybe the beta3 instructions should say download version 1.whatever(the first one) then click to do an update then download and install beta 3 by copying into to directory? The only way I got it to work, I really don't know if I have it all but what I have seems to work now -

I hope to be able to sort thru stuff before I run out of time -

Atari Disk Editor Advice Wanted
_The Doctor__ replied to ballyalley's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
It works for me... somewhat.... appears to work when first run but subsequent reset and reboot causes it to fail. I have to power off for a clean reboot to make it work again... Sometimes I perform arrow to sector or previous next sector and it does not refresh the screen with new data... so a power off reboot is needed to make it perform again... What rev BB firmware is it from? would it be possible to allow it to copy ram it is about to occupy to highest location in mem then put it back on exit or same idea using a third disk parameter to mem save to perhaps MIO ram, ram disk, or real drive... that would make it act much more like the bb in how the bb swapped it in and out using it's own ram. Awesome first crack at it... I have firmware 1.34, 1.41, 1.41s I no longer have the enhancer spooler mod as my floppy board has never returned to me and had to revert back to standard. -

joystick speed could ramp on a curve or use fire button presses to adjust movement speed if using joy instead of paddle.. Just ideas that have worked in past on other ventures

Improving 800XL SIO transfer rate.
_The Doctor__ replied to morelenmir's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
um, having the sio with full complement of power is a thing of beauty (recalling people hacked off and removed power from their 800's), what was really wrong is not being isolated using a diode and a fuse with a current limiting resistor... so If you are a purist I would put back what was always intended but fix the safety issue with a simple diode and fuse... no muss no fuss, and one less power block needed to run the alien voice group synthesizer box and other devices designed to use the different powers intended to be supplied by SIO..... yes I also put the power mod to return the 1200XL sio back to being useful. The modification to add power to 'stabilize' the sio signal is fine so long as a diode, fuse and possible current limiting resistor is in place and kept in proper protective order. It does scope out and if it's done right, perfectly safe. Don't skimp on such an inexpensive fix, really the cost and time for a diode resistor and fuse is well worth it... I mean pocket change mere coins... you will spend more on a beverage even! -
With Sparta 3.2g we used a utility to modify the code to set high speed mode on all of my disks no matter what size they were. disks reported dos as 3.2x at boot. always fast.... For Dos XE there was a similar program and another work around we used to do the same all of our disks making them all high speed for DOSXE as well.... maybe sio2sd doesn't like speed changes on the fly I never noticed a problem with sparta... I guess an experiment is in order... Hated the vtoc in memory deal of DOSXE... why it was done I do not know... wish that one thing would have been changed/fixed SO close to being a wonderful DOS.... Watching 3.2 operate it sometimes drops to 19200 when communicating with peripheral emulator then goes to 57whatever, stays there, then drops back to 19200 when done... and that's the standard behaviour... no DOSXE or XF involved.... hmmmm...

Datasoft Pac-Man info and price
_The Doctor__ replied to DiscoDr.Bones's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Yeah it took a year and a month before the proms arrived that fixed that and a couple other glitches on the actual arcade game had.... why someone would replicate such bugs? maybe they worked from the older code and no provided them with the latest code? Maybe old internals laying about got shipped to be duplicated and no one thought hey lets replace the proms before we send it to em... It was Friday and the beer was going to go flat.... had to rush -
driver for device must be loaded, usb5200, or ftdi, or other... to match the device only after they are installed do you connect the usb converter and or usb sio combination, after that you load and make sure config is set to software only in ape 3.0.6. leave and come back in.... should be working... you can manually cycle thru the com ports till one hits if the autoconfig fails. or just get the vcp versions and have at it. If installation is done in wrong order you may have to yank other drivers out and re-install.... on one pc I removed the usb5200 drivers installed the usb converter driver for the generic device and then did the software manual com config and that worked for a problematic set up... don't remember if I ever put the usb5200 drivers back in afterwards or not.... that worked as well... in any event after a year an answer is given. Good luck

Which SIO2PC cable to get? Atarimax or Atari8warez?
_The Doctor__ replied to lord_mike's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
the older versions of software from and or at atarimax are MS-DOS and DR-DOS friendly so you don't have to just use APE windows version if you don't wish to... of course that's the rs232 version.... I remember discussion about virtual com-usb serial port working as well in fact I used it... over the years seen it all work to some degree or another. But now Registered last version of APE addressed virtual com ports as well.... Download APE & ProSystem 1.18 for DOS Legacy Disk Image Conversion Software for Windows & MS-DOS)( Converts ATR & legacy XFD, DCM and SCP images to/from any supported format ) Download Imagic 1.06 for MS-DOS Download Imagic 1.06 for Windows Registered Users: Version 3.0.11 is Available - e-Mail for Upgrade Version 3.0.11 Includes 64-bit RS232, USB and VCP Support! http://www.atarimax.com/sio2pc/documentation/ -
