  1. okay somebody soldered the rf modulator pins and burnt the heck out of the flux and looked to be dirty.... cleaning it was a good Idea.... we see some scrapes to the traces above your pins... I couldn't tell from the picture. make sure the monitor out is also soldered properly... next what cords are you using? rf cord or actual DIN monitor cord... and have you tried other cords? If yes and same results replacing rf modulator is relatively cheap and easy.... with that said if you did replace rf modulator and still problem tracing back thru circuit is needed... also did you clean the channel select switch in modulator... spray and slide repeatedly...
  2. You can press out the spring pin and press it in again but you can break the new plastic piece doing it,, without proper alignment just replace the rod and all
  3. To be honest the Apple was at least good in the respect of it's early days with hardware firmware upgrades.. fully sanctioned by Apple.... it was till later the locked in you can't touch it model appeared.... SO Atari, Amiga, old Apple II, lynux/cpm based, droid, then windows is my pecking order of preference.. and some of that is just because of necessity... I have a more modern Apple product or two cause I got em for free or super cheap... any how Having had them all I still stick with the ole Atari 8, just remember to feed the dawarf for chip changes!
  4. It looks good to me... and as noted the spit and polish(shine) is coming... certain to be one the better ports!
  5. shut off before saving completed? that's possible.. We need way more information about what's being used, as I eluded to earlier.... Original Poster kynrek more information please!
  6. corrosion as in rust? you have to clean that off for real.. rust is indeed conductive, get busy with the q tips.... if there is corrosion in or under the rf modulator it needs to be cleaned and the solder might need touch up... this sound like it might be water/moisture damage... as such clean up is a must followed by nice flux with joints being retouched... make sure there are no bulging capacitors or none of them having wicked up water.. carefully make sure nothing has corroded apart or off. If you notice it works fine for 24 hours but then you let it get cold for a day and it fails till it warms up.. you have another situation.... it is hard to clean rust coating a board without an utrasonic cleaner or removing components and cleaning a board... I have seen flooding a board with cleaner and using a magnet with brush work as well but this is a good deal of work... Do you see staining on the pcb / under or around components?
  7. Droga Wojownika Space Rider: Jet Pack Company! Are decent the other one, upiornia not so much
  8. lol, using the wild card is not auto boot... typing all that junk out all the time isn't autoboot either... and again it has nothing to do with the Atari.. which is what the whole thread is about...... @ Chaplin nice synopsis, just add for completeness that the 1200XL and 800/400 to remove basic from cartridge slot....or in their case also simply don't load basic from disk whether it be Atari or Microsoft basic.....
  9. he's using an emulator so I doubt a real drive is involved..... so the questions would be... is he using an atr.. it he using h: drive.... and what DOS is he using with what disk image.
  10. To be honest I didn't see any reason to have brought the commodore into the conversation.... but it was sooo... I think having gone to the length you have, since your using basic as the loader in the commie they could have made it search the drive for an autoboot. but maybe that wasn't done for some reason (polling?timeout?some other memory constraint?).... You can use basic in Atari to load binaries also... as you might have guessed.... Taking basic out completely gives the Atari more memory space... and as pointed out if coded to do so can be turned off by software or by the user pressing the option key to toggle it or can be poked in basic.. a multitude of ways to do so... There are games that play weather basic is on or off btw....it also comes down to where the program resides... some games want to make sure no cartridge or other device/os mods are in memory for copy protection purposes as well.... I kind of liked the cassette drive of the Adam for it's speed and access.. to bad the actual mechanism was of low build quality but it was better in many respects than the commie or the Atari... and back to Basic... some of the os selections out there reverse the behaviour of the option key which is good also... or if you are using SPARTADOS X, or MyBios, You can select basic at will.... and for that matter there was a file to do so under other dos as well.. not an issue either way...
  11. I think you should send it to some one to do the repairs... breaking components and lifting traces is a bad deal.... the capacitor can be replaced and the trace can be repaired or jumped using wire... I am not confident you have the skills developed at this point to continue...
  12. I'll take the Atari loading times, methods and flexibility across the 8 bit range as a whole over the commie method(s) anyday...
  13. I saw some nice 'kitty' in that video!
  14. crazy cat becomes catfish! some cats love the water... I don't know why.... but they do! maybe cause that's where some tasty food can be found, who knows?
  15. The website locking up, causing post do double is getting worse and worse... even without tapa talk or other such third party stuff... using a straight web browser is now happening... is this due to hardware/software failure... or is it due to bots crawling the site or sites on the same server domain? AL?
  16. The Pill, The Impersonator, Cart Key, software vaguely AUTOMENU and Scanalyzer...
  17. sorry but wasting half the drive is also a waste of time to access the drive as well... also with all the other items we could keep on the Atari this space does get eaten up... I intend to get all of the stuff off the pc and onto the Atari... in an Atari usable format if possible... with the continued development of GUI and not to mention the new games and conversion. the sound demos and videos, rasta images books etc... it seems that having it all contained by the Atari to displayed or printed by the Atari would be the coolest... the whole running to the PC for Atari stuff gets annoying......
  18. Sorry can't pick from those 4, my wife says none of them sound cool...
  19. Very happy at your making an appearance Carsten, Before the complete move, and at times thru abbuc, Carsten almost always had darn near everything and knew of or about it. If he didn't know, he new who did. If that wasn't the case they'd all get together and find out..... I think sometimes it's there somewhere, but not linked or posted. Glad to here from you and see you are still at it! Are you still holding your regional group together? I missed your blog as well... http://strotmann.de/roller/cas/category/Personal last personal 2011 last overall 2013. I still muck about with the usb stuff from time to time.
  20. slight "Chord in Dur" , to get always a "good relation" in the musical/notation row, sounding a bit sour, which is an official "music style" , IS allowed on POKEY!!!!! but the key word is SLIGHT! You also might get away using the other chips to support your sounds... GTIA etc...
  21. Just make sure to get the 5 volt versions...
  22. I like that! USA's Top Model! nice, wrap, print!
