Hi,
I'm trying hard to get my mint 1040ste up and running so I can tinker with it on weekends, etc. I'm missing a few things I'd like and was wondering if anyone knew where to find them?
I need:
4mb upgrade (ideally)
a cable to allow me to use my Philips CM8833-II monitor
one of those stands that allowed you to put the monitor above the machine but not block the disc drive - I am sure my old school friend had one that was Atari-made, or at least bundled with his ST when he bought it.
A Megafile or other HDD solution.
STE-compatible modem (and driver/software).
Oh and an idea of whether the discs available from www.floppydisk.com are any good - or a decent UK supplier so I an stockpile a bit!
I'd like:
A Falcon (have my eye on one, but unlikley at the silly money they go for at the moment, unless someone fancies swapping an old Mac and a couple of SGI workstations as part-exchange!)
A TT - seem to be rarer than Falcons...?
I'm not on a huge budget, but I am more concerned about the right upgrades, etc, for my machine as long as it's relatively simple, as I have neither the confidence or the time to start desoldering my motherboard, etc.
Om a total aside, does anyone know how I might get an STe onto a network, so that I might telnet into BBSes via a proxy, as opposed to dialling up with a modem, etc?

Well, i like to create a thread for those who cant remember the names of Atari ST games. This will help people from creating many threads starting with 'can't remember'. However, i am no expert in helping people remember game names, but i'm sure this forum has many people who can help. We agree that Atari has been part of our lives, from the times of recreational purposes when having a break. Playing 'Kick Off 2' after your studies etc. We will never forget these memories, and shall stay with us until the day we die. Therefore, post all those games you cant remember for the ST over here.To start with, can anybody help me out?
Please try to understand that i was a little boy when i used to play the following game, therefore i might not be able to remember that much.Game number 1) I remember that my cousin came over and wanted to play the ST. He checked my collection and found 'Shadow of the beast', however on the front of the floppy disk, it was written: 'Shadow of the beast, Amiga Version!?'. I put the floppy in the ST and turned it on. Instead it was not 'Shadow Of The Beast', it was some guy who looked a lot like 'tarzan' (obviously only underpants) who had many 'beams' for weapons. This character could jump onto rocks in high distance. You also have to kill small\large enemies. - THATS ALL I REMEMBER, CAN ANYBODY HELP ME OUT?
Game Number 2)The whole game was based on dominoes, only that you would have to sort out certain dominoes to knock every single one down. I remember that some dominoes were coloured 'red'. -THATS ALL I REMEMBER, CAN ANYBODY HELP ME?
Well, anyone who cant remember their own collection of games, post them here, im sure someone perhaps can help you out. Anyway, thanks in advance!
First game sounds like Shadow of The Beast 2... the second one, maybe "pushover"? I'm not sure about the second one, though.

Hi folks,Today I decided I really need some more space for my atari 8bit collection. And so... I'm going to sell my atari Falcon / Atari ST collection.
I want to sell them international, because the Atari ST/Falcon market in The Netherlands is as good as nothing.
But... now I'm wondering.
My Falcon030's are PAL and are powered by 220V.
I guess it is easy for someone to replace that powersupply, but it is not so easy to make this thing NTSC. I guess...
So is it still interesting to sell them international? I don't want to sell something to someone who would not be able to get around with it.
Thanks
Marius
What are you looking for for a PAL Falcon? I'm in the UK and would love to get hold of one at some point in my life!

i think i have a diagram i made wayyyyyyyy back to connect an STe to a phillips based Commodore monitor...when going through papers the other day, i came across it... pinout should be the same, i´ll try to find it again and post it here...
That would be great, thanks! Would maplin carry the required parts?

Hi,
I'm looking for a cable to connect my 1040ste to a Phillips CM8833 d-SUB input - is there one available, or does anyone know what I'd need to make one - I'm handy enough with cabling, but haven't done any for years and would need a pin-diagram for both ends of the cable... Thanks!

hi,
I was googling around, as you do, and came across an article about the Veloce+ upgrade for the STe that had a 68020 CPU and an extra 4mb of memory on it (that was recognised over and above system RAM) and I was wondering:
a) if I need to upgrade my 1040ste to TOS 2.06, how do I do that?
b) Where might one find one of these upgrades? They were produced by The Upgrade Store in the UK back in the day, but no idea where to find one now...
c) what might it cost?
Also, there seems to have been a kit circulating that allowed the addition of an internal hard drive to a 520/1040STe, which would also be of interest to me - I'm aiming to max out the STe if I can't find a Falcon for a reasonable cost!

A nice warm welcome to the huge world of Atari ST afficionados! I've just bought another two 4MB STe machines to add to the one I already have. I've been using the ST since around 1989 and for stability and ease of use they are hard to beat.To upgrade the RAM on an STFM is harder to do than on a STe, where you simply plug in some generic PC SIMMs. The FM models require soldering I think but I have never owned an FM so I can't say how difficult it actually is.
After 8yrs of wanting one, I finally have an IDE 2.5" hard drive inside my STe, along with TOS 2.06 operating system ROM chips to enable booting from the hard drive.
I don't know if you are a musician or not but the Atari ST is still the one to beat for MIDI sequencing. I have a powerful desktop PC with quality components but the Atari is still better. Ten years ago I added an additional Horizon 16ch MIDI expander which plugs into the modem port, giving me a total of 32 MIDI channels and with rock solid timing.
I've got a few other small upgrades and I plan to buy a PeST PS/2 mouse interface soon.
Enjoy your new STFM RK!
As a new owner of a 1040 STE (after many years of wishing I'd had one as a teenager!), I'm interested in the fitting of an internal hard-drive if at all possible - how did you manage this - where are there instructions, etc?
Thanks!

I just moved and whilst unpacking, found a bit of my gaming history - an N64, with three controllers and the memory expansion pack fitted. Two rumble packs (one Nintendo, one 3rd party). Still have the box for the N64 (immaculate condition). I think there are a few memory cards, too (the 3rd party rumble pak switches from rumble to memory).
Games: Mario 64, Banjo Kazooie, Body Count, Diddy Kong Racing, Lylat Wars, NFL Quarterback club, Fifa: Road to the world cup, Turok, Mario Kart, Zelda:Ocarina of Time, 1080 snowboarding, Mystical Ninja Goemon, Goldeneye, Mission: Impossible, Shadow Man, Pilotwings, Rogue Squadron, Top Gear Rally, Turok 2. Most have instructions, some have boxes. There may be more games, but it's been a while since I opened the crate!
So, the question is - what do you guys think it's all worth? If anyone is interested, let me know what you are looking to pay and we'll see if we can work out a deal - I can accept paypal, so it's all secure!
Cheers!

yeah... can understand what you mean... i would also like to buy some more Atari hardware, but the prices are crazy sometimes...I wouldn't mind, but I picked up a Silicon Graphics Indigo with 21" monitor (a very useful Unix Workstation and cult icon) for less than £100...not to mention a Macintosh PowerBook G3 laptop that I can still use daily for work (including wireless internet), for £75. I don't mind paying for things that are reasonable, but I do think that either there is some German technofetish cult driving prices up, or people are just chancing their arm on eBay...
Given that the SGI cost £13,000 new and the PowerBook would have been £1500-ish, depreciation alone would mean that a £500 Falcon should realistically be worth not more than £100 - £150 tops with a small factory hard-drive. To charge £300+ for a machine that is a) nowhere near mainstream and, b) effectively an evolutionary dead-end (unlike Unix or MacOS machines that are still *live* as far as the mass market is concerned) is a bit mental, really.
Ok, if I could buy a new-in-box, from-a-shop, with-warranty machine for that money, then I might be tempted, but to pay that for a second hand machine that could be DOA, or at least require stripping down, cleaning, resoldering and god knows what else, seems insane. After all, as much as I love the ST and Falcon, they are basically less powerful than my iPod Touch and have zero appeal to the general public. I remember being able to pick up STs and Amigas from eBay and Loot for £20 a year or so back, so what's happened?

Hi,
I'm a newbie (well, new to this forum, I first used an ST when they first came out - which makes me feel rather old!).
I've currently got my eye on a rather nice 1040ste that I am hoping is still there come pay-day, as I have decided to give in to my teenage urge to get an STe - my father wouldn't let me get one for "study" when I was a kid, as he thought getting a 386 PC was better sense. I guess the PC was good training for my IT career, but I could have got a low-end Macintosh for what we paid for that DOS/Windows 3.1 Piece of Junk....but, I digress.
Ever since I first saw one (many moons ago in, I believe, ACE Magazine), I really wanted to get a Falcon. just a bog standard 14mb job with maybe a small hard-drive to store games and files on. I'd like to do some coding and suchlike and this seems to be just about my ideal machine - advanced enough to be useful, yet still carrying that retro vibe...
However, since I actually got a job that paid enough to fund a hobby I am stumped if I can find a Falcon to buy! I've trawled eBay, craiglsit, loot, gumtree, ebid...you name it, I've looked. The only machines I have seen are in the US, overpriced and would require me to replace the Power Supply... help! Surely there must be somewhere/someone that has one lying around?
From what I have read - it seems that a realistic cost for a bog-standard Falcon would be £100-150, but I'm looking for advice and a little help - I'll busy myself with the STe and keep an eye out in the meantime.
Cheers!

any ideas on finding these items in the UK?

Not the response I had expected, but thanks for the tip! :-)
