Damn, I've wanted one of these for a long time... little too expensive for me, though.
I've got PS2, GameCube and Xbox messenger bags ("attache case" is a little generous); but the Jaguar bag has always been at the top of my list.
Yeah I won it and it still hasnt arrived yet

oi oi..Time is drawing on chaps and chapesses... We had best get some semblance of a plan sorted for THIS sunday comming or it will be a horrible beery (or worse beerless) mess.. The poor inhabitants of leeds might object to random outbreaks of Atari fandom, best keep it clumped together.
So anyone have any ideas who is comming? roll call?
Perhaps choosing a place to meet. I am planning a train ride in unless I can scab a lift there and/or back (work on monday).
I am still quite keen on the pub in my previous post as it is near the train station which I would imagine is easy to find (especially by train
) as they are usualy signposted. Apparently that area has quite a lot going on in it too.so lets hear it.. come on people... beer and retro chatter.. what more could you want!
Sorry I couldnt make it - it was all set then my sister has to go and exploder her appendix the monday before - It was touch and go for a while so it wasnt really befitting I should spend the weekend on more fun/frivolous things when I should be visiting her in Hospital.

It has a cafeteria which serves alcohol to the best of my recollection, (probably not very cheap) I have manned a stall on a couple of occasions at the militaria fairs they used to hold there of a Sunday. It is a nice big spacious ultra modern building with some superb weapons and armour collections on display, but the best thing of all its very well signposted and has massive car parks.
Perhaps just initial meet up there and then move on to a more serious establishment for libations and vindaloos.

Well my Steel blue one used cellulose based paints which actually partially dissolve and bond with the plastic, Ive accidentally dropped things on it, stacked it with other jags, generally treated it the same as any other jag and it has yet to suffer a mark. If such custom jobs were unplayable afterwards I wouldnt bother to do any more but this one is really quite tough. My next idea involves structural work too cutting out portions and adding detailing with plastic extruded strips.

If you're going for custom, put in the biggest one you can get,So, I was bored today and decided to switch the red led in my jag for a blue/other color led; however, despite some googling, I don't know which size the main power led is? it looks about the size of the one in the dreamcast (5mm)I'm also planning on painting my jag..but haven't decided on a color
and make it fit. I have a deep red Jaguar with silver JagCD from Jonathan
Ascough, it came with a pair of painted controllers to match, but my first
choice is still chrome, rather than silver, gold plate is req'd for max bling!

Theres a lot of potential for Custom work on Jag units, I too got one of Jonathan A's custom matched outfits - very purdy it inspired me to do the one I enclose the pic of - it is metallic steel blue with hand painted Jag logo, surprisingly easy to do as long as you have the time and patience.

Issues 1-3 were made available on eBay in Pdf format on a CD for $10 I think it was - there is talk of it being done again as theres quite a few people asking about earlier issues. I think 4 & 5 may appear on a CD on their own or they may be held over till issue 6 is released then they can do another 3 issue omnibus CD.
That is the state of play as far as I am aware at the moment.

Okay another question... how many different systems were sold? By that I mean there seems to be the original system with no pack in game and then at least one with a pack in game. Or was it only with a pack in game? (The title of the pack in game escapes me at the moment)If someone can clear up this one, I would appreciate it. I'm just trying to figure out how many boxed jaguars there were. I'm guessing 3: launch systems with no game, a later system with a pack in game and perhaps a Jaguar plus CD in one set?
As far as I know 1. Jaguar with Cybermorph, thats all I ever saw. The Jag CD cam separately with Vid Grid, Blue Lightning, Tempest 2000 soundtrack and a Myst Demo.
The Japan release Jag came with AvP as pack in game instead of Cybermorph and is incredibly rare though I have seen one go on eBay recently, it had a sticker top right corner of box front.

I think basically you have to register, do a short intro posting saying basically Hi Im new here - blah blah blah etc, then you need to do 9 more postings and all the sections of the Forum become available.
It may seem a bit of a chore but it is for a good reason, my take on it is, its basically its to weed out lurkers and deadwood and ensure a lively list.

The carts themselves should last a long, long time.I seem to recall a couple of years back an issue over Jag Carts not so much in the durability of the electronic chips used but in the contact strips on the circuit board where they slot into the Jag. I gather there is also a problem on the base unit side, with some cases reported of the connectors loosing their spring loaded contact pressure with age or being left with a cart in the port for long periods of storage.
So while the data of the program on the cart my survive virtually indestructible the mechanical contact for getting it into the Jaguar base unit may let it down in the long term.

For my part - Mostly alive. I blame the French for being bad olympic loosers. 37 or 38 dead over 700 injured and dozens on the critical list - I shouldnt be so bloody flippant I know - perhaps its that bulldog spirit of the British.
This may be a bit out of place but I feel I must add - Whoever did this should be very very scared cos theyve just lost any last shreds of sympathy their cause may have had within the great British public, and we will get them, and If I had my way we'd repatriate them from 30,000 feet without a chute.

The Flight Sticks were not created by Team 13 / the GOAT Store. They were created by VD3D (Visual Designs 3D) and were going to be limited to a run of 100 sticks. The fact that only certain Jaguars had the chip in them that allowed them to read analog meant that of the first 5-10 that were produced, Dark Knight Games (who was selling them) got most of them back as "defective." As the story goes, DKG sent the defective sticks back to VD3D, who tried them and found no problems on their Jags-with-the-chips. Thus officially ended the life of the flight sticks. I assume those other sticks were sold, but I would be floored if more than 20 of them exist.Like the controller has different internal designs that can be figured out from the serial number prefix has anyone actually tried to work out which of the Jags have the analog handling chip and which dont, and might it be determined by the Serial number production code prefix? also I would be happy to open up my jags to see if any of them had the chip - if I knew what I was looking for? I guess a pic of the actual chip from someone that has a Jag that works with a Flightstick would be of use here.
Which leads me neatly on to my next question - can this chip be retrofitted to Jags that dont have it? Or is the motherboard physically a different design? Has anyone looked into this properly yet? (I guess DKG probably did quite urgently when the sticks began arriving back as defective!)

Thank you thank you thank you! Brilliant, now can I have permission to use them for my project? - Ie can I somehow download them?
Judging from the very usefull middle pic at the bottom of the link page the Lazer unit has the same footprint as the Philips unit used in the Jag CD add on except instead of tracking center to aft the unit is mounted so the lazer tracks center to right, in other words they have swung the lazer unit round 90 degrees clockwise.
Hoping you can help me with getting permission to use.

Spin problems - have you tried lifting up the central spindle gently with your fingernail till it clicks, many CD's are written off as U/S because this has been pushed down and jammed or rubs slowing it down, on the other - Have you tried tweaking the lazer tracking or failing that replacing the Lazer unit as described by Linkovitch?

Yep they still crop up. I purchased 3 of the 4 I have now as broken returns from a guy in NY who had a skipfull of them back in 2000, I managed to repair all 3 of them thanks to Linkovitch's very helpfull online CD repair guides.
At the time as broken they cost me 25 bucks each and another 40 bucks shipping to the UK.
Ah those were the days!

Well I went up in the attic and my memory was faulty Theres 10 boxed Jags and 4 loose ones, I enclose a pic of my JagJoybox which allows you to use a joystick on the jag for Blue Lightning, as you still have the pad overlay buttons on the adaptor box I guess it would work with any flying type shootemup.

For those that expressed an interest in Cross Products fate - Some more info on Cross Products....
In the Late 90's they merged with CodeScape who took over their address and contact numbers. It must be post 1998 as Cross were still producing the Dreamcast Katana debugging and development equipment then under their own name.

I found this about the Mirage emulator from a german site dont know if its of any use:-
The real-time CD emulator Mirage has three SCSI interfaces for a production computer, a test computer and for connecting the CD writer, when the virtual CD has been tested. The production computer generates the data for the CD application and transfers them via SCSI bus to the CD emulator. There the CD type and disk type (4X or 8X) are set using various parameters, so Mirage can also emulate the playback timing of a CD-ROM drive.
I also found the telephone number and Fax number, of Cross Products if anyone wants them, I believe they merged with another company around 2000.

The Jag Duo got more attention (but not enough) - well a Jag unit with a built in CD would eliminate may of the reliability problems and if programmed properly could produce more than competitive games, how far had it gotten? Well a case and unpopulated mother board are known to exist for the Jag Duo as well as detailed housing design drawings which have recently come to light. Fuzzy pictures of a prototype closely guarded by senior Atari Executive at a game convention in the mid 90's - (not sure if its working or mock up) have been around for a while, but new pictures have also recently been unearthed which appear to show plastic production mouldings and from them you can tell it was designed to take the same Philips CDM12.1 CD transport as the Jag CD system.
The Jag 2 with Midwinter/Cobweb codename and Oberon/Titania (some say Puck) chipset was still in a much earlier stage of development after speaking to key Atari personell involved with game development - They had no game development plans for any Jaguar 2 system games - was the Jag 2 ever an officially sanctioned Atari project or was it just a secret 'what next' project of Atari R & D dept??? Will we ever know for sure.
