I like Test Drive on C64 (and Test Drive 2 is even better), actually, Accolade hardly ever produced a bum game on C64 (maybe Rack 'em and TKO are rubbish). Grand Prix Circuit is my absolute favorite.
-
I think Atari Panther version has a little better music, sound effects and good choice of saturation colors. Instead, C64 has better design of sprites. Playability on both are the same, strangely it feels more accurate on Atari version.
Other way your Atari screenshots are not right.
This game should be declared as a draw, as there is not a clear superiority on one version from another.
Yeah as Rocky Mountains has proven, most UK programmers couldn't program the A8 for toffee, but sometimes they did make an effort, here's UKs Tynesoft:

With the ever increasing cart 'capabilties' I expect we'll be seeing Starfox running on a 2600 this time next year...
How about 1984?

-
top of my head:
Essex (Synapse)
Mindwheel (Synapse)
Brimstone (Synapse)
Universe (Omnitrend)
UKs Rainbird titles? not sure, gotta check

Wow, you never heard of Computer Eyes? From Digital Vision, Inc., an excellent Digitizer for C64 and A8?
Or Print Technik Video Digitizer? An excellent German product available on C64 and A8?
-
Wow a real achievement indeed, you have just digitalized a picture and then ported it to atari. Nowadays, with PC tools, even monkey can do this
If you are so good and cunning try to draw it pixel by pixel, (like STE did it) and then we will talk.
On every 8bit scene (including Atari)you would be a laughing-stock if you bragged about anything like that

I guess as usual, Rocky Mountains is the laughing stock around here. LOL

As I said before, there are exceptions, e.g. Rampage was a full price game, but it is a piss-poor game on the A8, still this does not mean the A8 is poor, only the programmers who did this game (conversion) were poor !!
This only counts for C64ers, it's a bad coder who cannot program the C64 (Dropzone PeteD comment), but when it is on A8 (eg Rampage), the computer is oh so bad (Rocky Mountains).

:D and somebody here was saying C64ers were the COOL ONES at school? Now that, my friends, truly is the biggest joke of the year.
-
Yeah slow bloated inefficient and overpriced....just like the Rolls Royce when what any real man want's is a small sporty car with exemplary handling LOL
Honestly as nice as Dropzone is on either machine it is hardly a technical tour de force compared to Something like Salamander (which with restrictive PM graphics the A8 could not replicate anywhere near as good). Keep convincing yourself that only 1st generation software appeared on the C64 and so you can have a few close calls in your isolated little delusional world

Sorry I got it wrong (once in a while I do, not very often like our companion Rocky who always gets it wrong, but sometimes).
Archer MacLean:
The Atari is the PORSCHE of home computers (ZZAP! C64 magazine):

-
Anyway frenchman, it was a joke of the year ROTFL

Rocky's wrong AGAIN and AGAIN, posting without thinking (How do you do it?), you were asking about Atari rip-offs which I provided, nothing more. Can't you even get that right if you have to think so hard to come up with a (as usual) totally nonsense answer?
:DHere's a nice C64 screen shot for you:

And you know what's coming:
BTW, aren't you dead yet?

Do more? Like what?

Don't ask me, ask the WoS guys, if you are so wound up about the Spectrum.
All I am saying is the fact that the Spectrum was the best selling 8 bit computer in UK, and WoS keeps saying their games and machine are best. Now, you obviously will say that it's gullable to believe those guys....but then I have to assume that whatever you say is bull as well.
-
(feel free to disagree but unless you own all of the machines compared you are in no position to challenge me haha)
Apple ][ has the best keyboard imo, designed by Steve Wozniak.

And who owned a Memotech anyway? I've seen one at SAMS (Stafford Alternative Micro Show) way back, it was sitting there all lonely without any computer love.
-
And? So a handful of nerds on a dedicated Spectrum site LOL and? The world knows how bad the Spectrum was in total....sure there are some delusional fanboys with blinkers superglued to their face yeah...which I'm sure is where you fit in

uuuuh I love the jealous talk.
-
Taking Atarisoft games...there were always better licensed/unlicensed copies of all the early 80s arcade games that were all better or at worst equally as good as the Atari version.
Common exampled...Alligata's Guardian = Defender, Anirog's Space Pilot, Ocean's Donkey Kong.
In fact the only game I don't think ever had a decent version of was Galaxian, Galaga did via Aardvark's rip-off Zalaga.
Now you are really moving into the land of fantasy, Atari's own software house rocked on A8, those guys were doing the coin-ups and the computer conversions...(ok maybe not on C64, maybe those conversions did suck),
-
Yes but it is worse for 99% of all aspects of an 8bit home computer. It didn't even have a joystick port, a sound chip (16k/48k original rubber keys) or real disk drives. Also didn't have a decent TV output either. Complete fail apart from a 3.5Mhz CPU and monochrome wireframe 3D games.
The WoS guys wouldn't agree with you
-

Obviously C64 tried to compete with the VCS
:D
:Dhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umFRpUqcono
Looks like a pretty accurate arcade conversion to me

As I said, an ATARI rip-off
;) -
I would have bought an A8 if it...
Tapes didn't take 2 hours to load
Try FS II on A8 cartridge, 0 seconds to load, try FS II on C64 fdd, 5 MINUTES TO LOAD THE TITLE SCREEN
-
You ask I shall deliver. From the house of Commodore:
From HAL Laboratory, Commodore only being the publisher.
irrelevant, the question was NOT 'written by the house of Commodore.'
-
...
Depending on the colour usage Ballblazer and Dropzone could be done without transitions on the A8. Perhaps I find the time to do one of those.
Dropzone..interesting.....wasn't there something posted here already. A quote from Archer McLean in ZZAP! issue 12 or so? Atari XL being the Rolls Royce of 8-bit computers, C64 just a 320 BMW? Gotta dig out my ZZAP!s and I'll post that quote. I think it was in Retro Gamer too, gonna search.
Wasn't THAT a degrading statement in the forceful C64 magazine ZZAP!? (I always wondered why ZZAP! review team also always mentioned the A8 being the more powerful of the two)
-
Sorry emkay, C64 sceners just create, only atarians have to rip pictures off, convert different games etc. in order to prove that their beloved computer can do it as well as C64 alredy did many years ago. Have you seen anything on C64 that was ripped off from Atari ?
:D

If you measure time between posts on some replies, you can see some desperation to reply as fast as possible (sometimes resulting in poster clicking "Add Reply" multiple times). Finding time to trim posts would be difficult then for such people.
Obviously most of them are the C64 users

After 85 A8 still had some support from important USA companies like SSI and Infocom; even EA, Access, Origin, Microprose, Accolade and some other important US companies released another game for A8 or two, but basically by 88 it was all over. Atari kept it going with many re-releases and a few original titles in USA and UK til 90, at the max (Black Lamp was 89).
