  1. Sometimes it is a mess. All projects that could show the abilities of the A8 seem never to be released, while on the C64 anyone has an idea and ... voilá .... on the other corner of the earth, someone is doing the necessary stuff.

Yoomp! is some exception. Not possible -this way- on the C64, I bet they'll find some other solution . And I know what to do : use the pipe that Fröhn suggested, with a mirrored font and use the sprites with pointers for simulating the 3d zoom. It will not play as fine as Yoomp!, but it will show a game like Yoomp with 16 colours and "3D parallax".

I know exactly one Atari 8-bit game that outperforms the C64 version in ALL cases (graphics, sound, and gameplay) : Koronis Rift.

    Another mess: The taste...

Everyone is talking about Rescue on Fractalus. But this game is "only" better in framerate (and the intro), you find endless videos at Youtube.

But you don't see even one video featuring the greatness of Koronis Rift there.

Well, as great as Space Harrier is, it seems never to be finished.

Project "M" ? clearly possible, but it seems, it never will turn into a final game.

Emkay, I must admit that, it is your another post and you are speaking rationally (rarity among atarians here) ;)

Even more a rarity amongst C64 users (They're still miffed that the Spectrum outsold the C64 by 3 - 1 in UK).

  2. Because Oswald was a loser.

Actually, there's no need for name calling.

You cannot claim the A8 can’t do what the C64 can without proving so. YOU have to provide prove.

That makes no sense...?! If it's done on the C64 and nobody can produce a working example on the A8, that's proven the point.

I'm sorry I didn't know my answer was too difficult for you to comprehend. It does make perfect sense. If it's done on the C64, who says it cannot be done on A8, only because nobody has done so. You sound like the person from way back who said: This cannot be done on the VCS, get away. David Crane replied: I've just done it (That's a quote from Retro Gamer magazine). Proves I'm right.

  3. Well, I asked for examples and received the litany of fables, plus some shocking prophetic information. How refreshing to hear the truth about myself. Let's see, we have got 2 projects that will be (or not) finished in about 3, 5, 10 or 15 (who knows, so take your pick) years. What's more, these projects (future games if everything goes well) will need a large amount of additional memory. And then goes the best part, you compare them to 20+ years old C-64 game that runs smoothly on 64K. I could not imagine a better showcase of C-64 power,   really. After initial whining, some atarians try personally attacking me, but that only shows a weak argument on their part. Well, I am also starting to understand why Oswald gave it up.

Because Oswald was a loser. He was just rambling on how good his C64 is and how it can do all the things the A8 cannot do, but he couldnt prove any of this. You cannot claim the A8 cant do what the C64 can without proving so. YOU have to provide prove.

  4. Wow, plenty:

Snoopy and the Red Baron has an excellent 'pause' mode soundtrack, eg drumming

    Pitfall 2, world famous music

Frogger and Frogger 2 Threeedeep have music

    Pressure Cooker

    Moon Patrol

    ET title music

    Strawberry Shortcake Musical Match-ups

Drumming (sort of) in Jungle Hunt

    Gyruss famous Bach music throughout

    Mountain Man Grieg music

    Rabbit Transit

  5. All of them really, and without the awful fogging (On the other hand, Japan coders (if they'd support Jaguar back then) were never really experts when it comes to programming Western consoles. They were lousy actually, until XBox came along).

  6. I got 10 so far, and still need 10 for completion. (20 official released titles right?)

I also have Frogger II:Threeedeep and Strawberry Shortcake carts only, but I don't include unboxed titles in my collection until I get a box, or the game as a whole.

Also, two more protos, if people care about protos: Care Bears and McDonalds

  7. Did any new companies release titles for the 2600 besides pirated titles and releases in Brazil and such after the 7800 launch?

I think it certainly helped increase the platform's viablity enough where Activision returned to publishing a few titles and Atari continued with the occasional release.

Edit - I forgot about Absolute Entertainment, there's at least one new company that entered the 2600 scene after the 7800 launched.

    SALU, Epyx

  8. They are not real coders, real coders are like David Crane, breaking new ground where others (like Jay Miner) say 'I didn't know you can do that on the VCS'.

This analogy falls over on one very obvious point; in the discussions here when Person A says "this game is easy to do on the C64 but hard on the Atari 8-bit" or whatever, there's no Person B taking David Crane's role and actually proving them wrong, including yourself.

Perhaps Person A should take David Crane's role then, or otherwise how does he know...."this game is easy to do on the C64 but hard on the Atari 8-bit". He must do it first to come to this conclusion, otherwise he's just assuming.

  9. They are not real coders, real coders are like David Crane, breaking new ground where others (like Jay Miner) say 'I didn't know you can do that on the VCS'. Coders don't go around saying...Yes I can do that on the supposedly superior C64 but it cannot be done on the A8 without trying.

  10. In one word: No

What you need is a Philips TV Tuner from, lets say, Germany (not the British Philips TV Tuner of the same model), something like this:

    http://cgi.ebay.de/TV-Tuner-analog-PHILIPS...%3A1%7C294%3A50

Which supports VHF, with that you connect to an 8833 or a Commodore Monitor, and ...voila works.

Can't promise about colour with the Gemini though,as I don't know if the Gemini is REALLY PAL compatible. Or the info you got means that the Gemini supports PAL and NTSC carts on NTSC TVs, eg Canada.

And don't worry about the German 2-pin power plug, it fits into a UK socket, I've done it many times.

Thanks for the info again. I sent a PM to the seller who was happy to send it to me and it has arrived. All I need to do now is find a working 8833 or a Commodore Monitor somewhere....

Glad to help, a Philips 8833 are a plentyful on ebay UK, so you shouldn't have any problems.

  11. You're always going on about Atari 8 bit and C64 competing.

The competition of the Atari 800 was Apple ][, not C64.

In UK the comtetition of C64 was Spectrum 48K, and Spectrum won. Atari 8-bit came under 'bubbling under' (Although it was the second most successful import computer in UK)

  12. So you gonna be pedantic as a frenchman, if Classic Gaming is wrong, you have to stick it under the section 'Programming', please.

Anyway, doesn't matter, Oswald was the guy involved in the A8 vs C64 thread, and he always got it wrong, I remember now.
