  1. Hey finally a game I actually own. I only picked this game up like 2 weeks ago and I've played it all of twice before today. Hm. 13030 on wave 5 so far.
  2. I don't know. I found a clip of the Arcade Galaga (Done on Mame) on Youtube and compared it to Single Ladies. It doesn't sound alike to me at all. There are a few other sound effects that may sound similar, but I'm not sure there's really a connection. Course, it could be a Mame difference over the physical unit too... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pu5d87ZhesY - Galaga tractor beam 0:34 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h90hXYXSz0U - Single Ladies
  3. Here's one: Maaaan... That picture really makes me want to get out my old toothbrush and some soap. Did someone bury that thing? Where's the love? Oh the humanity!
  4. I had a 6 switcher that had the weak switch problem. I did this sort of repair with it and it fixed it right up. Make sure you watch how the switch parts are oriented.
  5. Well this is good news! Cave in is a great game. Can't help with your search though.
  6. Who's the bigger [email protected] the election guy or the people who elected him knowing what he represents?
  7. Bought some paddles for my 2600. I needed a second pair to play 4 player Warlords.
  8. I feel that cases like what you witnessed are almost abuse in and of themselves. That child is learning that to get what you want, all you have to do is raise a stink and use a little violence. It's horrible.
  9. I'm glad to hear that you're on the mend. Prayers for a speedy recovery.
  10. A got my 2600 on Ebay. You can generally find a used unit with controllers and a bunch of commons for under 60 dollars. I got a heavy and light sixer, 5 joysticks, a set of paddles and 5 games for 40 dollars. Most of my games have been from Goodwill and local thrift stores. You'll usually only find commons that way, but in my case, I'm buying this stuff to play it, not to collect, so I don't mind missing out of the 9+ rare that sucks as a game. Oh and... Hey fellow Wisconsinites...
  11. I firmly believe that violent video games are bad for kids. There have been studies that link aggression to violent images on TV or the like. I think it can have a bad influence on kids. That said, I don't think they're going to make anyone flip out and kill people. I think the debate confuses a lot of things and misses out on true causes. There's a couple books out that surmise (without weighing in on whether video games are good or bad) that video games make kids more effective killers when they DO kill. Why have school shootings become more violent with higher death counts? Because kids kill like in a video game; they shoot till all the enemies drop like in any first person shooter. It's the same reason the military trains so hard. In stressful situations, you do what you've been trained to do. So school shootings and the like become video games in the kid's subconscious and they kill til something stops them or they realize what they've done and kill themselves. I read an article one about a kid who shot some folks in a school. He didn't even realize he'd shot a friend until it was over and they told him. So the thing is, video games don't cause kids to become killers. They just make them more effective killers when they DO kill. The main thing that causes kids to flip out is that parents in the United States have become fairly lousy at parenting overall. I'm from a fairly traditional upbringing. My parents taught us to be obedient, to do what's right, that when they said No, it meant no, and to forget about whining. They made sure we knew there were consequences for our actions. And, for that matter, they were there, and they loved us. I work in retail. I watch kids come into my store daily. I can't imagine ever acting towards my parents the way so many kids do these days to theirs. Nor can I imagine my parents ever talking to me as a kid the way so many deal with their kids now. I think US parents have lost the ability to parent. They're so busy maintaining a lifestyle and work and such that they have little time to spend as parents... or they try to live like they did before they had kids, not realizing that lifestyles have to change with a kid around. Then they try to be their kid's friends (and neglect to be a parent) to make up for it. Added to that, you have parents, schools and other organizations that seem to think that we'll hurt the kid's self esteem if we actually challenge him to accomplish something (How many little leagues now don't keep score because they don't want to have anyone's feelings hurt?). Nevermind that overcoming adversity is what REALLY builds self esteem, not being coddled. So you end up with kids with no structure, who are spoiled and unhappy and have no ability to deal with any sort of adversity. It's a recipe for disaster. Video games might contribute to the problem on a minor level, but they don't cause it. Maybe that needs to be a mandatory high school course. "How to parent responsibly."
  12. I was deprived as a kid. Grew up in the states til age 9 in 86, but folks didn't have money to let me plug arcade machines. Closest I ever got was after we moved to Africa (We lived in a 3rd world country north of Zimbabwe)... in Harare, Zimbabwe in the mid 90's. Arcade in a waterpark there had loads of vintage 80's machines. Even had an original Asteroids machine. Guess the guy who owned the place imported them from the states. We went down to Harare periodically and that place even more rarely, so I got to play about thrice. Now of course, Zimbabwe has gone to hell in a handbasket. I doubt that arcade is open any more. No-one has any money there any more. They just released a 1 trillian dollar bill. My heart breaks whenever I see the news about Zimbabwe. Going there was like a trip to the States; now it's a hellhole. Fondest memory of that arcade is the Demolition Derby machine they had. It was a table top machine for something like 4 players. Man that game was cool. Didn't play when I moved back to the states to boarding school for highschool. No arcades near me. Didn't own a console til 98 when I bought a used N64. After that, I got into gaming in a big way, but mostly on PC until recently.
  13. I'd totally pick up a cabinet if I could. I have the room for it, but I don't know the first thing about maintainance of such things.
  14. 3 or 4 hours of Video Olympics with a friend. Sure it's just pong, but several of the variations are quite entertaining. The volleyball styled one is crazy. I just got my second set of paddles yesterday, so we had to test them out after they got a good cleaning. 30 minutes of Dragonfire. And 45 minutes of Jungle Hunt (just found at a thrift store), which I found only mildly entertaining. Also played a bit of NHL hockey on the N64.
  15. I used the WP-2, a later version of that machine in college for class. Picked it up for 20 bucks and used it for taking notes from 1998-2001. Had a parallel printer I could plug right into it and print off. A serial cable allowed for tranferring files to my PC, though I rarely did that. Course nowadays people use real laptops, but a was a poor college student and students with laptops wasn't super common yet.
  16. Heya. Just an update. The above machine does have a channel selector hole and switch. I noticed it the other day. Don't know why I missed it originally. I'm located in Wisconsin but the unit was purchased on ebay along with a light sixer from someone in Colorado.
  17. Yeah, I'm like you. I bought Guitar Hero 3. I never play it now. Total Waste of money. That was the most I've ever spent on a game.
  18. Haha. The rarest game I have is Plaque Attack. But then I just started this hobby and I'm not super serious about it... well, not enough to spend lots of money.
  19. Woah. Those were a good find for the N64. The top three usually go for a lot more than lat on e-bay and in most of the game stores. Where'd you find them?

    Care Bears

This has come up before: http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=136477 EDIT: Gah! Someone beat me to it!
  21. So, I picked up an Atari Touchpad at Goodwill today. I understand it's used for the game "Star Raiders." So, is this the only game it works for? And for that matter, are there any other control devices for the 2600 that only work with one game?
  22. That's actually a great name for it. In any case, I took a look at the tech demo here. I'm grooving on the animation and the concept. What's the background though. Looks like tree trunks leading up to black trees. So the point of the game will be to mow down soldiers?
  23. I just picked up a Vader 2600 with two controllers, a video touchpad and three games (none of which I had, yay!) for 12 dollars at Goodwill today. It's going to replace my Sunnyvale heavy sixer which I've decided to store because the sixer is in ridiculously good condition. Whoever owned the Vader took really good care of it. After some scrubbing with soap and an old toothbrush, it looks like it came out of the box yesterday. About a week ago I picked up a model 1 Genesis with a controller for $4.00. I'm planning on overclocking and modding that one for Svideo in the coming week. It'll be my first modding project.
  24. $6.00 Well I like single bills. So $10.00 Ha! I see your 10 and raise you 10. I got $20 bucks for an old DVD player I sold to my aunt. I'll throw that in.
