update....i took a standard rca cable and stuck a f connector converter on one side and went into the 800xl on the other side...same white screen same purplish lines....not really sure if the guts of a rca cable are exactly the same though Turd (learning about 800xl's the hard way) Furgason

that f connector that you mention.....it there a cable that goes from the large "monitor" port (kinda reminds me of an old AT pc keyboard) to the F connector (coaxial) ? This might be a stupid question

Thanks i will look into it.....i ended up taking it apart today...i noticed 2 IC's were a little raised up....one went right back down, the other i removed and reinserted...no change in behavior. I did notice one thig...one of the IC's i had to reseat had discoloration on all of it's legs....none of the others seem to have this. I can take a picture of it and it's location if anyone has one of these already apart that i could compare with Turd

Thanks for the reply...i might try to capture some picture of it and upload them....i had stumbled across that other thread as well, some of the posts seem to mention that some of the chips are "socketed" so i might open-her -up and try to reseat what if anything i can. I'm not finding a ton of info on teardowns for the 800xl (as you might imagine) But i will also make sure to check voltages from the supply and across the board where i can. I should also mention i am using a RF connector from a old NES...this 800xl came with no cables except power. I would guess that this should work ok...it seems to work fine on my master system as well as NES ...it is the cable that is Single RCA type /to / Coaxial . When i switch the 800xl on i get a definate change on the screen from loud static to this calm whiteish screen....the purple lines do not really look (drawn) they do seem to have a appearance of some kind of interferance so i will check shielding inside the device as well.....it is clear from all other powercables/devices that could cause some kind interference via inductance.

Just picked up a 800xl ...here's the problem, when i cut it on i get a sort of "white screen" with a couple of purple tinted horizontal lines on it. If i reboot it i usually get the same thing except sometimes i get the ocasional blue screen (no text) with those same lines. I am new to the 8-bit atari cpu game, and was not sure how hard these are to troubleshoot Thanks -Turd

i actually just found a second one for 5 bucks....no controllers though.....if you having trouble finding games you can always DL them and do the old Disc Swap ....i have heard that this can hurt the moter in the cd rom drive over time.....i have had no problems though...you just gotta be quick

kudos on getting the Vectrex....it's one of the last pieces to my pzzle as well......i try to find everything myslf without resorting to epay.....but i have never even sniffed one....i might have to go to the dark side sooner or later

I have been playing video games for 30+ years and RE4 is certainly not one of the best games I have ever played. Playing "Barbie" games on NES, for 30 + years does not count

RE4 is certainly one of the best games i have ever played.....i might could even squeeze it into the top 10....i have been playing games for 20+ years so thats saying something in my book

For my money Classic game room is the best...Mark brussler is a great vintage game reviewer...and he does not really have to have a gimmick or take himself to seriously

Ok im looking for a Push-Push switch (or latching switch) that is made like this... I'm sure some of you will recognise this as a standard arcade cab looking switch...i just need one that functions a little differantly . This looks like a momentary action push switch but it is a standard on-off switch: push once to switch on, push again to switch off. This is called a latching action. Also if i can't find one that looks like this, i will just need to get one that is very small... Any ideas on where to find one........radio shack don't carry $%^! Thanks -Turd

I agree with this. The thing looks great - and i know i am in the minority but i feel like the OD2 stands with the atari 2600 Some of the games and various modes you can play them are great fun. I love my 2600 but K.C. owns pac-man

Thanks for all the great responses........Truth be told i never buy anything to resale it...i know i have some stuff i should prob get rid of (i'm kind of a horder i guess) but Something about the look of the odyessy 2 is great to me - it's such a throwback look - not like early star trek look, more like Dr who (tom baker years) look or something. Reading the booklets....wow.....the story lines detailed in some of them is just great, lots of imagination - plus some of the games are just a cut above (for that time period) - Anytime i see something in somebodys junkpile that is in great shape and has somehow made it through 30 years....i always just get excited. Oh well -Turd
