Personnally i have 2 MMC2IEC , one with the original firmware and the other with a sd2iec firmware. I'm very happy with that device, mainly the second with the sc2iec firmware. You can then find them here http://www.nkcelectronics.com/mmc2iec-comm...tion-devic.html http://www.nkcelectronics.com/sd2iec-daughter-boar2.html http://www.nkcelectronics.com/sd2iec-boar2.html More info here : http://www.c64-wiki.com/index.php/SD2IEC

That is the next in my todo (hum said, my expiriment) list. -
this is just a list of disk drives not that not made it into production: SFD 1001 1541D 1542 1543 1551 (SFS 481) 1561 1563 1565 1570 1571-II 1571CR 1572 1582 1590 1591 8060 8061 8062 8280 1570 and 1542 has been produced. The 1570 was a 1541 drive relooked for the C128 , and the 1542 was a Black 1541 drive but using parallal transfert instead of serial but works only on C16/plus 4 .

Sorry, but what is the purpose of that adaptor? i know the Expansion Module #1 for the coleco , but i don't see what is exactly your item here.
-
I would say no. the ANTIC processes the DLI code , it is his job. Otherwise, what interrest to have the ANTIC?
-
If the 6502 is "sleeping" during a DLI, then how does 6502 code get executing during the DLI? Oh wait... I already know the answer... You obviously don't... For me, the code is simply not executed until the ANTIC pull downs the HALT line. no?

Yoomp is not what I'd call advanced. The code is less complex than what's needed for an average platformer. also we have seen this gameplay in the mid80s just in 2d already (in fact gameplay wise yoomp is 2d aswell just the display is more twisted...) out of possibilities? check the many c64 demos with similar tunels. I tried yoomp , and as "game" i didn't like it. Too slow. I really prefer the game play of Trailblazer (on both plateform). I don't like the visual also. Just matter of taste here. It is surely a great technical achiviement. But not my taste. And i'm pretty sure you can do this kind of game on C64. (of course not using the same technics , but what count it is the result not the way).
-
May be it as already been discussed here somewhere. So sorry if it is the case. But reading technicall documentation about the Atari's , it seems that , when the ANTIC is used , the 6502 is shut off and vice versa. So in fact when you display something using DLI , the 6502 sleeps. So you have a 1.79Mhz CPU that sleeps... so i wonder if it is not better to have a 1Mhz CPU that is awake than 1.79Mhz that sleep half of the time.(or more).

Thanks Daniel, Yes, It is what i have figured out about the sprite priority. But as in lot of forums and article about programing MSX and Coleco they spoke about rotate sprite priority i thought i missed something.... In fact you don't change priority , you change sprite organization at each frame.

I would love to see game using the Turbo Module. I will do surely one , but it would be great to have more! -
Hi, I would need to code a sprite multiplexer for my game. the idea (and i think the commun way to do that on Coleco/MSx) is to rotate the sprite priority smartly. But how can you change the sprite priority?? I didn't see any attribute or even a notion of changing sprite priority in VDP docs. Do you have to do that by switching sprites (with all their attributes)? Thanks

I thought Lunar Lander was on the Atari Flashback 2? Seriously? Ok, how much is a Flashback 2? eBay has some for up to $25 I wouldn't pay anything more than that as you will see a whole bunch of them cheaper. Lunar Lander is on the Flashback 2 as I suspected (I own one but hardly use it anymore since I have the real thing). But I am right that Lunar Lander never was released for any real home console, right? (ie: not simple plug and play style systems like the Flashback). You have at least : Jupiter lander that runs on C64 GS (the console based on C64 hardware) , and there is also a version on VIC 20 (but not really a console here). -
sure: btw, I'm the least impressed with the coca stuff, the rotating textured shit is the best could be done on a8 aswell and even better... bear in mind that in (8bit) demos shear cpu power what counts most and the a8 is better in that. except if you prefer music/gfx. I knew these demo. Ok, they demonstrate technical things. But I think the problem with Atari 's demos even if they are a great technical achievement they are not really nice. the Artistic side is missing i think. in C64 demo , there are more artist touch . that's my feeling. Of course surely a matter of personnal taste. And why the Atari having 128/256 colors , most of effect in demo are mainly in shade of gray , or shade of red, or shade of blue or shade of green? Can we not put Red , green , yellow and blue together?? In fact in demo, i would prefer something less technics but nicer. I would be very curious to see how could look the Coca container part of the Deus ex machina on a Atari.
-
Is there a Demo on Atari , that could rival with Deus Ex Machina on C64 ? Mainly , i'm impressed by the Coca container animation and light effect.

Just one question, if Atari's sound chip is so much better than the SID. Why Atari did the 65XEM (including the AMY chip) in order to rival with the C64 and his SID ? The AMY chip was never intended to go in an A8 or compete directly with SID. Some engineers under Tramiel later put together the XEM as a way of easily demoing the chip. http://www.atarimax.com/jindroush.atari.org/achamy.html Different source apparently say that the AMY has been done to compete the SID. In a Article in Retrogamers magazine , it says the 65XEM has been done to rivel the C64 and his SID. therefore I don't know their source . Anyway in all articles i have read speaking about the AMY , it is compared at one moment to the SID and not the Pokey.

Yes, agree, but i think when Atari sign the deal with MOS it was already owned by Commodore and called CSG (Commodore Semi Conductor Group). Commodore bought MOS in 1976. The VCS has been released in 78 (?) . and the A400/800 in 79. 2 and 3 year after the aquisition.

It is not identical... it is not the same color by default!! And the C64 ones looks better! Color values are not in the ROM character bitmaps. I guess everyone gets used to their character sets-- Dr. Frog loved his well and thought all other wells and oceans were inferior. Do You take all post seriously??? I was just kidding.
-
THERE'S A BIG PIECE OF COMMODORE IN EVERY ATARI ==> the 6502 . the heart of your beloved machine is Commodore!

Doing the math again: 1.77 vs 0.985 MHz doesn't mean that A8 is 80% faster. Since A8 steals a lot of DMA cycles from the CPU and the C64 doesn't, on a normal screenmode ([email protected], [email protected]) the A8 is only 20% faster than a C64. On the expanded pixel modes it's about 50% faster. In addition the A800 has a 6502C and the C64 a 6510. The 6502C is a custom 6502 done by MOS Technology specially for Atari in 1978. The 6510 despite being based on the 6502 core , had been produced few year laters. in Addition to having a built in 8 bit IO port , his internal design has been more optimized than the prehistoric 6502C. In 3 years, the 6502 series have sligthty progressed . Can i prove that? ... not at all... it is just to drop some oil on the fire! But i won't be suprised that a 1982 6510 will be sligthly faster than a 1978 6502 at the equal frequency.

Few "ugly" c64 image with his "ugly" palette. Finally... i think i like what is ugly!
-
when i count color in your snap , there are 7931 colors. It seems a graphic filter (may put by the emulator?) has been apply on it. That is caused by resizing the image. If you view the image at 100%, there are exactly 29 colors. oups..you're right!
-
119 colors on that one!
