Sometimes it's fun to go digging back in the closet or your basement. You find stuff you forgot you had. Today, I found a whole stack of instruction booklets from my childhood, many for the NES, including Bump & Jump, Mario Bros/Buckhunt, Mario 3, Robin Hood, Disney Magic Kingdom, ect. Was really nice seeing all of these again. I remember reading these bookets from cover to cover , and Super Mario Bros. 3 is very dear to me as it was the first game I ever bought with my own money. Heck, I still remember going to Toys R Us...looking for 30 minutes till I picked Robin Hood and Disney's Magic Kingdom . What have you guys found recently, hidden and long forgotten?

So yea, I decided to finally open the metal case for my GC that I haven't touched in years. I go to open it, and it has one of those combination 3 number code locks. Yea.. I can't remember what the heck this is. Luckily the cube isn't inside, but I hear stuff rattling around in there. What should I do? Is there a way to reset this, or better yet, were all the boxes the same code? ...lol i wish

Nintendo Virtual Boy in Blockbuster Case NICE!
DaytonaUSA replied to fullnelson's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
Meh, hard to hijack a thread that's abandoned by it's owner . I'd probably want a complete unit. Ax is helping me out with that actually, however, if you have any non cracked stands around, I might need one. Also, any games besides Panic Bomber, lemme know too. I am curious what the unit sold for... and to who for that matter. I like the case idea, I'll tell you that much. At least it can "go away" for a while, but be properly stored while it's off my table. That's one major problem here. I'm about to move (provided the deal on the home goes through), so everything right now is a bit jumbled. Getting something that's already packed is an awesome idea . -
PS2 to drop under $100 on April 1

I call B.S. You'll never be happy or satisfied and you'll always let others know when you aren't and why you aren't. Personally I think you happiest when your unhappy if that makes any sense. We all love you anyways Artlover. And you're never happy unless you're correcting someone on their opinion, and generally being a disagreeable know-it-all blockhead. But we don't really love you. We are just forced to tolerate you because the mods still allow you here, kinda like Zylonbane. SOOOO anywho.... -
Nintendo Virtual Boy in Blockbuster Case NICE!

Check out my wanted thread.. could you part with one? -
I figured since I was able to get my first request, the Sega master system with the 3D glasses I wanted, I might as well keep posting here when I want something! This time I'm looking for a Virtual Boy with visor, stand, controller, and AC adaptor with, at least, a copy of Panic Bomber. I used to have a Virtual Boy, and I sold it because it didn't have a visor. Well, stupid me, I could have just bought a broken VB that had a visor on it. Just like my old unit, this one needs to be in great condition. I hate big scratches! I don't want this thing dinged up. I don't need boxes or anything. However, if you have boxes it doesn't hurt.. I just don't need to pay 50 bucks for a silly box I have no room for . Other games besides Panic Bomber I'd be interested in (that I used to have) would be Mario Tennis, Teleboxer, Waterworld, Red Alert, Wario Land, and Mario Clash. Thanks in advance guys.

Don't feel bad. I didn't get an answer about the boxed one. He's probably just a busy guy. -
Dreamcast was better than the PS2
DaytonaUSA replied to Mazerati's topic in Classic Console Discussion
This isn't correct. The best the Dreamcast could do was VGA which is 640 x 480. The PS2 can do 16x9 480p which is 854 x 480. To me the best looking PS2 games look better than the best looking Dreamcast games. Of course developers had a lot more time (and are still continuing) to work with the PS2. When the PS2 was released, the Dreamcast library did look better and run smoother. Some of those early PS2 games look marginally better than PSX games. And playing a Dreamcast game on a pc monitor just can't be beat. oh my god, speaking of bad launch games that looked like n64 games, what was that one game in which you're a warrior or something in viking times. God, I still remember how bad that game was. The text was so annoying to read and scroll through, and you couldn't make your character move or do anything that you'd expect him to. I still remember all the huts in the main village wouldn't let you even open the door. It was so cheap it was pathetic. The game started with a K... But yea, if people saw that game vs Jet Grind on the DC, I think people would have laughed at the ps2's abiliies. And you're right, if the DC could do what it did then, I'd love to see what devs could have pushed out of the system after 9 years of using it. -
PS2 to drop under $100 on April 1
DaytonaUSA replied to accousticguitar's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Perfect points, and exactly what I was trying to say. Gaming consoles today can make better, well.. not better, but more realistic looking games. They have the power to do so. However, the development costs to produce it is so high, it's not profitable. Devs have said that about the PS3 for instance for a while now. I think some people forget how much it takes to make a game these days. It's why the Wii is so popular with developers. There's less risk. If you sell only 250,000 copies of a game, it's ok. Now, if Killzone 2 only sold 250,000 copies, it would be considered a failure, and they would have probabaly lost money. These games cost as much to produce as movies. The only reason graphics will get better is because making these virtual worlds will get easier, IE: take less time, which in tern means it costs less money to produce. Untill someone creates programs and computers that would make this that much easier, you're not going to see anything mind boggling compared to what's already on the shelf for a long time. Which, again, is why I'm so excited to see what Sony and Microsoft have up their sleeves for the next generation, because they know as well as we know, it's going to have to be something more than just a graphical upgrade for people to bite. This might actually help Nintendo when it goes HD, because it already has patents for motion control and pointer control on a game controller (well, at least the way it's implemented). This will make it harder for Sony and Microsoft to create something of their own without stepping on Nintendo's toes. -
FS: Rarer Intellivision and Channel F Games

Heh, yup! I'm strictly a Nintendo guy, now. Going for CIB collections for all of the Nintendo libraries (call me crazy!), including handhelds Zoidburg was pretty crazy ... -
Dreamcast was better than the PS2
DaytonaUSA replied to Mazerati's topic in Classic Console Discussion
that's another thing the NesterDC pack (NES) is flawless on the dreamcast Actually, many of the games don't run properly, but a gooooood amount of them do! I love it. That an the Game Genie built in. That was genius. NEVER run emulators on a Dreamcast. Running content off a CD-R is a guaranteed way to wear out your laser and trash your system long before its time. Yea, and watching DVDs on a ps2 will kill it. I've heard it all before. No problems here, and I've had my Dreamcast for quite a while. If the laser ever does go out, it'll be an easy replacement. That, and I don't play the NESter all the time, so it's not stressing the system out. -
PS2 to drop under $100 on April 1
DaytonaUSA replied to accousticguitar's topic in Modern Console Discussion
That is exactly what the Wii 2 is gonna be. Nintendo already said so. Expect it around 2010 or 2011 at the latest. Which is great.. all we need now is some better software support past the first year and a half and I'm on-board. -

DaytonaUSA replied to accousticguitar's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Honestly, I think this will ring even more true whenever the next generation comes around. I mean, graphics are already getting to the point where they are kinda maxing out (the PS3 can produce prettier games for instance, it's just that production costs for proper development tools would be so high to do so, it's not worth it). How much further can games start looking like movies or Pixar movies before we stop caring? I mean, games like Rachet and Clank are already almost getting there... It's going to come down to... keep what I have and buy more existing games that are now 20 bucks, or get a new system where instead of that football player's pimple being a texture, it's now bump mapped. When do we just say, enough? I think Nintendo had the right idea with the Wii.. ie: doing something other than just putting in a better graphics card. However, I just wish they advanced the hardware a bit more so that devs would take it more seriously. Even with the same graphics, if it had HD output and a HDD (both things are very cheap to install), I think the Wii would have been even more of a success, especially with the "hardcore" crowd. I mean, picture a 360 and a PS3 with a wii remote. I think that would be amazing. I'm curious to see what Sony and Microsoft due this next round. -
Can we see some pics? I might be interested... always wanted to give the ol' toilet seat a try.

So, who's reputable and good and installing mod chips?
DaytonaUSA replied to DaytonaUSA's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Unfortunately no there's not . I wish there was, as I don't mind doing disk swaps ect. -
Common guys, it's Sony. You had to see this coming . If you want a feature, you have to pay for it. Sony doesn't care about making us happy, they just want our money. God, thinking of which, I'm remembering some sevice calls I had to make to Sony with my PS2 slim :shudders: Anywho, kinda sucks that my ps3 doesn't have backwards compatability, but I want to use my Test PS2, so who cares... that and I spend two hundred less on my white ps3, so no biggie for me.

This auction has the weirdest description ive seen in a long while
DaytonaUSA replied to Rev's topic in Auction Central
But crippled old ladies would want to hold onto shit for a long time. Have you ever been in an old person's basement? They keep EVERYTHING. If this belonged to her son, wouldn't she keep it to "cherish his memory"? And I agree, she wouldn't know what was complete if she doesn't know what the heck is a bloody rf cable. -

DaytonaUSA replied to DaytonaUSA's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Yea, I think you and I need to join the same club . Are there any import only GC games worth having? I mean, if I can't run US DVDs or game disks, it's not even going to be used >_>. I might have some luck at the Assembler website, but honestly, I don't know those guys like I know the people here at AA, so I feel a little iffy about trusting someone with my system. Their admin might offer to help, but even at that, I have no idea who he is, ya know? -

What game system(s) do you plan on buying next?
DaytonaUSA replied to STGuy1040's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Very sorry my mistake, it is an original Japanese hvc-001 Famicom from 1983, I live in Japan so I have access to some really strange things, I don't know where I got 79 from. With that said I might be able to pickup anything hard to get from Japan if people are looking. Any good import GC games out there? I know most of the good imports are on PS2, but I need something to play on my Panasonic Q before I get it modded lol. -

DaytonaUSA replied to DaytonaUSA's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Ask on assemblergames.com Their modding community is more active. Thanks, I'll look into that. Any the stuff I know how to do is really easy for me, but hard for others . Soldering and stuff is NOT my specialty. I'm sure it's easy for some of you guys, but the thought of me trying is laughable at best. -
Dreamcast was better than the PS2
DaytonaUSA replied to Mazerati's topic in Classic Console Discussion
damnit, now you've started me on a dreamcast buying spree. great reviews on that game--but since I purchased test drive 6, I avoided it like the plague. If you want a reason to get it, I've always hated the Test Drive games as well. This game I *believe* was made by the same guys who did Gran Tourismo (poly..whatever)... which explains why it looked so dang good. It was a very good sim driver, one of the best for ANY system. I'm still not very good at it as it's very tough, even on easy, but the complexity and the graphics still make me play it all the time. I've had the game for about 5 years, and I'm still amazed I'm playing a Dreamcast when I play it till this day. It's an unappreciated racer that didn't sell very well. If you manage to find it at a local used game store, they are actually running around 25+ dollars. I guess they started figuring out it's one of the better titles on the system, and slowly becoming harder to find as people figure that out. it's a shame that the Dreamcast didn't live for a full life. You guys are comparing apples to oranges, saying that the Dreamcast didn't look as good as later PS2 titles.. well no shit lol. If the Dreamcast can pull this game off, then I'm sure at the end of a 9 year life span, the Dreamcast could have pulled out just as pretty graphics. Let's face it here guys, the only reasons this console died were because of mismanagement, lack of DVD player, and hype of a system that turned out to not really deliver on it's promises until much later in it's life. The DC was a powerhouse, and just because the graphics on it's earlier games weren't so hot, doesn't mean that it didn't have the power to produce better. You guys have to remember that many games, like Hydro Thunder or Rush 2049, were simply n64/psone titles with higher resolution and better textures. When the Dreamcast got a bit older, it's exclusives proved what the system could do. The fact that many of it's titles such as Crazy Taxi, Sonic Adventure 2, and so on, were on the Xbox, PS2, and GC and looked great, proves that the Dreamcast was no slouch. If those games were ported and looked bad, people would have laughed at their presence in their new system's library. I still remember seeing a friend play his Dreamcast (which was the first time I saw one in person) and was amazed at Jet Grind Radio's lighting, Marvel VS Capcom 2's animation and smooth backgrounds, and Crazy Taxi's polygon count on the taxi's chrome grill. At the time all I had was an N64 and ps1, and I still remember the thoughts that went though my head when I saw it.. I was in utter shock, and to be short... was very ..very jealous. Heck, I still have the issue of Nintendo Power, the first issue with GC reviews, that had Sonic Adventure 2's review in it, and wondering why the game didn't look any better on the GC than the DC. To be honest, if it wasn't for the drool worthy pictures of Rogue Squadron, I wouldn't have even concidered a Cube at launch . -
I hate to be a bitch, but how does it's position in the market look worse and not likely to improve? The ps3 beat out not only the 360 (of course) but the freakin Wii in Japan's last batch of numbers. I'd say they're doing just fine with controlling 1st and 2nd position in the charts. Also as a side note.. that means the PSP beat out the DSi, which is a newer system.
