  1. Duh. Sorry guys. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWLoDD0zqOs
  2. Please forgive me for putting this on both the Modern and Classic Gaming pages, but it pertains to both types of gamers: The first review for my youtube show. D.A.A.B. Orion Video Game Reviews, will be up and running in just a few minutes (after it's authorized). The first review is for Battlefront II. As some of you already know, I'll be doing a weekly review of both modern and classic games, many of which being imports. I've spent a lot of time and money getting to where I am now with it all, so I hope you enjoy them. Please subscribe to see future reviews! They'll only get better with time, promise. Also, due to me running out of time in the 10 min limit, expect to see 2 part reviews for many future reviews. I've wanted to do this for so long, and I finally dove in (thanks Moycon for the push!). Upcoming reviews include Afrika (PS3), Aquanaut's Holiday (PS3), Shadow Squadron (32X), and Frogs & Flies (Atari 2600)!

  4. Yea I've decided against this route, and just went and put the game/hdd up for sale. Someone has already called it, so at least it will find a good home. I'd love to play it, but I can't seem to make myself spend 60 bucks on a used ps2 just to play one game.
  5. Essentially what it is. It was for the PS2 back in the day if I recall correclty. I know they're making a current gen sequel, but I honestly haven't heard anything about it for about a year, and wasn't very excited to say the least to give it a shot.
  6. I got off the phone now with 3 managers, sigh. It seems they do NOT fix test ps2s, unlike said earlier, and that they have no idea what the phone number is for that department as it was not given to anyone there (yea right). I have no idea who to contact. I don't know what's more annoying right now, the fact I can't contact the right people, or the fact I KNOW it can be done with a simple firmware patch. UGHHHHHH. I'm in contact with some developers and a repair company atm. Maybe they can help >_>
  7. I'm talking to the manager now. He's refusing me the phone number of the support line for developers. He's saying I need to contact the dev I got it from (???) and then call the number they give me, that even if I have a TEST ps2, they won't give me the support number. It's a BIG secret I guess >_>. I asked to talk to his Supervisor. On hold again...
  8. As many of you know, I have a Test PS2. My model, the H30001 doesn't connect to a HDD or DVD movies (though it does work with the network adaptor) unless it's firmware has been updated, which can only be done by Sony. I'm not a developer, never have. I honestly, in Sony's eyes, shouldn't even have this system. However, I went ahead and tried my luck and called Sony Support. I explained to the lady I had an H30001 system, and she kept telling me the ps2 was displaying it wrong.. it should be SFH30001 (the first PS2 to roll out retail). I explained to her my PS2 was a TEST system, said it on the side. She put me on hold. I told her how the HDD wouldnt connect and that I needed a firmware update. She put me on hold again.. much longer. She came back and said that they could fix it, that this special system doesn't need to go through another support phone number. She said there would be a charge to "fix" it however. I said I wanted to talk to a manager, to make sure they knew what type of system I had and that it originally came from a developer. She comes back after 5 minutes or so on hold. The manager told her to "wave the cost of repair to the test system as a kind gesture". I asked her if I would be receiving the SAME system back, fearful that they would swap it for a retail ps2 instead and call it a day. She reassured me they would not replace the system when "repairing" it. I'm now on hold again, because upon entering my model number into the system, her desktop went blue LOL. Now I'm waiting until they fix her computer. I have no idea what's going on, she won't let me talk to the manager, and this just seems... odd. I'm concerned they don't like that I have a TEST system on my hands, and I don't know if I can trust Sony. This just seems odd that they'd wave all the repair money like that for no reason either. Your opinions?
  9. For sale for $45 dollars. Includes everything in the box: HDD, case and booklets, case sleeve and large booklet, utility disk, and box. Box has some marks on it, but everything else is in wonderful condition. PM me.
  10. Well, I realized it's because I have a TEST PS2... that doesn't play nice with utility disks, because of it's firmware. Oh well, up for sale! lol
  11. So I have FFXI, and a hdd, and the boot up disk. I isntalled the ps2 on the network adapter, hit eject and put the Utility disk in. It boots up, shows the PS2 logo, ...then nothing. Black.. nothing. I put in the disk without the hdd, same thing. Is it the disk? Or is it the hdd isn't detecting the hdd? or is it that there's save data on here, so it's confused? I'm so lost. HELP! The instructions don't tell you jack diddly about putting in the hdd.
  12. Thank you for understanding where I'm coming from. Like you said, I still play modern games and I'm not saying there aren't good ones, it's just the number of more original games seems to be lacking. Gears of War, Fallout, Haze, Killzone, CoD, all kind of blend in together. And also, personally, I'm really sick and tired of the whole popularity of the horror genre in games and especially in movies. When I grew up, horror movies and games came out around Halloween, and that was it. Now there's a new release for both movies and games in the horror genre every month. I guess I never understood paying to get scared. So while I know everyone and their brother likes games like Bioshock and Left 4 Dead, and while I can appreciate how quality these games are in audio and graphical presentation, they simply aren't for me in the least. But that's a seperate subject.
  13. That was also back when every game in every genre hadn't been done to death yet. In Killzone 2 you're fighting the Nazis. They're not called Nazis but they wear SS logos just like the Nazis. They're pretty awful dudes. The reason you have to shoot the guys so many times is they have on armor. This is a scifi game. It's much better armor than you'd find in real life. I've found that kind of annoying as well. Otherwise I've had a lot of fun with the game in singleplayer. I wouldn't be caught dead buying Flower or Deadly Creatures. If every game had "emotion" some one else would start complaining that every game was the same and had that emotional crap in a video game. By emotion I mean something that ties the game to you in a special way. IE: unforgettable, unique, and something you'll cherish for a LONG long time. Killzone will be replaced in 2 months or w/e by the next best thing. Also, that's really sad that you won't play either one of those games. Don't judge games by their names, they're both VERY good.
  14. I know there are some major titles out there that do in fact have emotion ect. However, what I'm trying to say is, I feel like I'm simply playing slightly upgraded versions of the same game with different titles, and the things that tie me to a game, the story, the *single player* portion, is very bare. Most games are heavy now in multiplayer, and there's no emotional connection to anyone. I mean, Warhawk. I love that game. But none of the soldiers on the field are going to be recognizable to me. Killzone. Yes you have the guys with red eyes.. whoopidido. However, the main characters feel like a mesh of Haze and Gears of War.. IE: stuff that's already been done. I guess what I'm saying is that games seemed to used to be unique. Now it's simply about boasting graphic power. I'm not saying Flower is game of the year here, I'm saying it's unique, and I will always cherish and remember it over time as it touched me. Same with Katamari, ect... Back when I was a kid, all the popular IPs were very different. Kirby was different than Mario. Bomberman was different than Bionic Commando. It seemed titles that were unique, and were special to you, were in more abundance. It seems with the beginning of the ps/n64/saturn era, that started to fade, and now.. especially with FPS/TPSers, it's the same dang thing over and over but slightly repackaged with better graphics, and I'm tired of it. I'm sorry if you guys can't agree, but I'm trying to explain this the best I can. And yes, Portal is a beautiful game. But let's face it. It's not nearly what I'd consider to be a AAA title. It didn't make tons of money. IE: it's niche, and again, those special games are so few and far between today it's not even funny. Again, some of you guys are missing the point. The point being we live in a world were Deadly Creatures is more of a rewarding, and special experience than KillZone.. one of the biggest releases for this year. >_>
  15. After playing some recently released games, I've realized that the games that seem to be rated the highest on review sites, seem to have absolutely NOTHING that makes you care about the game. My example: Killzone 2. Seriously. I was quite supportive of this game. It's very pretty, yes. The voice acting is great. However, there is no emotion in the game. I guess what I'm trying to say, there's nothing to connect me to this title. It's linear, I feel like my controls.. the power of my gun, don't react the way I want them to. I can shoot and shoot and shoot and the guy..won't ..die! And why am I there? Seriously, these poor guys live here and I'm some oppressive asswhipe that's taking over them? Why the heck am I killing these guys? And they don't really bother to tell you, and it's so.. dry.. and linear and ... heartless. It feels very copy paste but with better graphics, and our industry (money paying costumers included), REWARD this action. The sad thing is.. it's not a horrible game. They do what they should have done, fairly well. It's just.. there. I will never come back to this and be like "oh remember that really great moment where that one guy became your friend and then died in front of you and it made you feel so horrible." ... nothing. It's a shooter with great graphics. Sure the cover system is great, but .. it feels like a upgrade on the technical and HUGE step back on the emotional front. Now here's the fun part. You play games like Flower or Deadly Creatures... and honestly, I have a smile on my face when I play. All you do in Flower is move around a controller and fly around hitting other flowers, and Deadly Creatures has you...playing as ... bugs? And yet, there's really something there in both of these cheap titles that gets me 100% immersed. I feel tied to the game, and I can be like "omg do you remember when you're that spider and you are in the dead guy's body as their burying him after killing him?" or "man did you feel that amazing feeling in the windmill level as you were rushing through the canyon and the wind was reacting to all the things you were doing with the flowers? Call my crazy, but I guess I'm just shocked .. I'm shocked that Killzone 2, arguably the most HIGHLY rated/hyped game in the last few months is totally being beaten in gameplay time by Flower and Deadly Creatures. And this representing a LOT of games. There are so many games out there that are the industry's "best", and yet they honestly suck. There's no reason to go back, there's no amazing feeling of being in the world past some technical achievements that are soon replaced by another game's technical achievements... AND EVERYONE REWARDS THIS BY BUYING THESE GAMES! And I wonder why my older systems get more play time.. but I honestly think it's because there was less BS. They knew how to make a game. They knew to give you new powers, and that would affect gameplay, and you'd have to go backwards after you get the new power to unlock stuff in levels you already played.... All that's gone in AAA titles, and I'm getting a bit tired of it. I seem to be playing more and more of the games no one cares about, and they're honestly the best of the best of the generation.
  16. It's microsoft. They'll find a way to tick you off, trust me.
  17. I'm starting to do game reviews (mostly for classic games) on youtube. I just did my test video last night (check General Chat section). I'll go ahead and hook the PS3 up to my mac and make a review once I get the game in my hands. They should be here monday or tuesday. Thanks guys! D-
  18. I know this is probably not post worthy, but I play Battlefront II all the time, and I've honestly never heard this one. It made me laugh out loud. You could totally tell it was some guy in the office who said it, not a professional voice actor, which made it all that much better. I was Han Solo, and I shot a trooper and you heard "Wait a minute, Han shot first? But that's not fair!". I love it when devs put little touches in their games.. little easter eggs that show you that they cared about their project while they worked on it. Rogue Squadron II and III had a lot of those moments as well . Can you guys think of either Battlefront, or any other quote or easter egg that made you smile in a game?
  19. Thanks man, I figured since I had the hdd in my test ps2 anyway, i'd pick up this game. I think I might like it. I like community games, and I'm hoping it won't be like a traditional FF which always seem to bore me. Something with human players might keep my attention better . If anything, you get the 30 day trial period. If I don't like it, I'll just sell it.
  20. I know it's not the newest of games, but I figured I'd give it a shot. Since 360, PS2, and PC players all play together, I figured it would be still played and might be worth trying. I just ordered it on ebay, so I'm curious what people had to say about it. Thanks
  21. I'm excited, but at the same time nervous it's going to be one of those "made for Wii" deals or something. I'd like to see an improvement on anything other than the controls. Still, it would be neat to play with something better than a joystick.
  22. My understanding is you'll be able to import your custom character in the sequels (and they will have the attributes you assigned to them being a ...nice guy, ass-hole, etc...) so be sure and play well my friend and think towards the future when you do. Yea that's correct. They've been telling people to keep their save files over and over the last month or so now. I never did get to finish the first one.. never had that much free time on my hands . Was the ending pretty eventful or was it predictable?
  23. Yes, it's the 10 year rule the ps2 promised (and probably will uphold). All it means is that they won't just say "sorry, no more games.. no more systems" and pull the cord on their systems. Which is kinda nice honestly, as I think XBOX and the GC kinda gave up early on their systems, which could have been cheaper alternatives like the PS2. I'd be VERY surprised if ANY computer, video game or not, would last 10 years without having a sequel released within that time period.
  24. Si. No worries Atarifever, like I said before, I know the stuff you say isn't meant with malice . Sorry about the heated convos, but hey.. that's what collectors do sometimes. Back on topic, I'd really love one of these SNES import pads, or the PRO controller, however, both cost quite the pretty penny and I'm not entirely sure all that is really worth it.
  25. Oh god no, it was horrible. The graphics were simply lazy... simplistic.. way too simplistic even for Kingdom Hearts games (2 looked infinitely better). But graphics aren't everything.. which is again why the game was horrid. All your moves basically consist of cards being drawn, but in the heat of battle, you can't really devise any type of strategy as you can't see that far ahead in the deck, and you're in the middle of combat. So basically, you just use what's there, and it's more of a mindless, strategy-less poor excuse of a game that honestly, should never have been made in the first place.
