This is encouraging to hear! I like meeting new gamers on live, so if the community is decent, maybe I will find a few people to add to my friends list. You guys realize it's because it's filled with all of us gamers who weren't just being born when SFII came out, right? SOCOM on the other hand (or in your case Halo) attracts the worse, younger crowds. I do find less young screaming kids on the PSN though, however, certain games (especially FPS) are never free of them no matter what console you own. I liked SOCOM a lot, but I'm actually thinking of selling it as I never have a fun match without people yelling at me or booting me out of games because they want to be arses.

Dev/Debug Unit Performance, Observations, and Questions
DaytonaUSA replied to DaytonaUSA's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I'd love to see what it looks like, and it's ports. I'll post some pictures of mine as well. Where did you find it? -
They had something SO good with Excite Truck. I'd honestly have rather them been lazy and made more of the same. I really have to ask... WHAT IS IT WITH MINI GAMES. Now we can't even have core games without them on this system. Everyone has plenty of mini game games by now, so can we, for the love of God, move on!? That and FPS.. I could honestly do without (except Battlefront ).

Ughhhhh. I should have learned to not get my hopes up with a Wii release >_> http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2009/03/03/her...s-trick-racing/

Ok seriously, people keep saying this, but every time I ask what the game is, what platform, and when it's coming out I get NO answer Care to fill me in,... please? But honestly, for a company that didn't utilize all it's wonderful francises..or for that matter hardly any, it kinda desearved to end up where it is. I'm very sorry for the people who lost their jobs, but the upper management should have been given a Fatality for their shoddy planning. I'm thinking the one from II that has the victim run over by a subway train.

Likewise! I haven't been this excited for a Wii release since Mario Kart last April! Can't wait. Now.. if we could just get an F-Zero and (non-cruddy..ie: made by Nintendo) Starfox... but honestly, the amount of developing on both the DS and the Wii by Nintendo has been a been lacking, which is very odd for them. I think I'll go back to Excite Truck this week to get brushed up on the game play again .

Thank God, maybe someone will finally utilize the Hydro Thunder franchise.

I just ordered Hakuna Matata *and* Aquanaut's Holiday (asian version) for really good prices today. Aquanaut's Holiday was about 15 dollars cheaper than Afrika, so that worked out really well . I'm really excited about, what amounts to, Afrika but underwater. I think Aquanaut's will be a great game, especially since I really liked Endless Ocean but wished the game was larger and had more life to it. This game, judging from youtube trailers, has almost every type of under water creature available, and it's all in glorious HD . I can't wait for these two games, I have a feeling they will be stars in my ps3's collection. I'm kinda in the quirky mode right now with katamari, noby noby boy, ect.. so this should fit the bill. With both games being in English though, I still don't understand Sony's fear of debuting them in the states. I mean, Endless Ocean sold really well... there's obviously a market for these types of games. Anywho, any other imports I should pick up? I have a feeling I have the best ones now, but ya never know. I need to sell a few games anyway that I didn't much enjoy like Grid, Burnout Paradise, and SOCOM (sadly, I love SOCOM, but the online aholes really ruin it, and it's all online so...).

I bought this a while ago now. It's... interesting. However, I'm not sure how to stretch farther.. I think I got farther by shrinking, going to a new planet and a few new locations then stretching again. It definitely seems my noby boy is muuuch larger now though, so i guess eating things and stretching is doing something. I only have the Moon available atm. For a game that really is fairly boring on paper (sometimes in gameplay too lol), it takes hours of your life away. It's very different from katamari, though in a way, I'm kinda glad.

I'm sure some of you guys who are here have dev systems or debug units. I was kinda wondering if some of you guys could post about your experiences with the hardware (like the Dreamcast katana, or Test PS2 ect) and what the advantages are vs. a normal console ect. I've been playing around with my Test PS2 unit and my Debug PSone (having quite the fun time!) and I had a few observations: First, the PSone debug unit has A LOT of ports in the back. There are av in AND av out, another type of port that looks like a slightly smaller (I'll have to read the name of it tomorrow if it's labeled.. it's kinda dark now at night), typical sony av port, ect. I'm kinda wondering what I could use these things for. Does this mean I can put video of games somehow on my computer? Anywho, the PSone is region free, which I can't wait to explore. Now, the Test PS2 is a bit different. It honestly looks very much like a typical ps2, except it has what looks to be a hdd unit on the back. I've never dealt with these hdd units as I had sold my phat for a slim by the time Final Fantasy XI came out, so is there a way to access the hdd on a ps2 without buying something like FFXI? I don't see the drive in my Browser, so I'm a little lost as how to see what's stored on this thing. I've heard that sometimes games, or parts of games can still be stored on these things from previous devs, and I'd like to get in there to see what I find .. and to see a possible clue as to what company owned this unit originally. The Test PS2 also plays imports as well. I've found the master disk patcher after a lot of research, and I'm figuring out how to take ps2 ISO images with this master disk code and program, and make burned copies of disks (no, not illegal use, just to play around with on games I already own just to see how this all works.. I love learning about all this fancy stuff ). This code will only work on Test PS2s, not regular units (from what I hear, not even modded units.. there's a different program ect for that). However, while all these observations are fun, the most curious is that I've found the performance to be much different on the Test PS2 than the regular PS2. The most curious discovery are the load times and, more specifically, what appears to be frame rate. Now, I know the regular ps2 has less memory (32 mbs) and the TEST has 64 mb, but I had seen many people argue on forums whether or not it affected the performance or not. While the reasons people say it shouldn't affect anything make sense.. if there is one game I know like the back of my hand, it's Battlefront II. I have it on every console/handheld because I love the game so much, and I know exactly how the game acts and feels on every system. The load screens when you're saving or loading your profile go so fast that one message goes right after another, literally on top of each other.. it's not even readable. Ironically enough, loading times seem to be on par with the xbox version for loading a level. While not a huge thing to mention, it is important to note especially as the ps2's version of this game had horrible load times compared to the xbox version. The best thing though was the frame rate. Now, I don't know how to describe this.. but here it goes: It feels like I'm playing an arcade cabinet version of the same ps2 game. IE: it's kinda like how when you play Star Wars Arcade, everything feels really smooth.. almost too smooth, and animations almost seem, i donno.. floaty smooth? Does that make any sense? It's almost "idealized" animation that doesn't quite feel natural but at the same time is kinda neat. That's what I'm experiencing. It seems everything from animations to framerate seems more fluid and almost floaty or something. It's honestly sticking out to me like a sore thumb, because the difference in gameplay playing on the Test system vs my Slim is quite noticeable, and actually.. kinda bothered me at first because it felt ...different. For a game I'm so used to playing, it felt a bit alien. Well, anywho, sorry to bore you all. I'll post some pictures here tomorrow of the ports on the ps1, and hopefully I can get some imput as to what I can do with this. I'll also post when I play with the burned ISO images of ps2 games and let you know if I can tell any performace differences in any other games. Again, please.. I need help with accessing the ps2's hdd! Thanks! Please feel free to post your own experiences on these, or any other dev or debug consoles by any manufacturer. I'm curious to see what each system offers . I love odd ball systems like these, don't you ? Quirky, rare, unique.. isn't that what collectors live for ?

F-Track? You mean F-Zero?

Shameless bump to remind people to buy this game. This game seriously gave me a sense of wonder, something I don't exerience all the time. This feeling compares to the feeling I got when I first saw Mario 64 and it blew my mind. It's not about graphics (although they are amazing), it's the experience. Funny thing.. it's about flowers, yet it's fun.. so much fun. It reminds me of the feelings I had regarding Disney when I was young....if that makes any sense.

Have you bought aquanaut's holiday yet? Previously known as Aqua, it's by the same people, and a similar type of game.. it's reaaaally beautiful too. I'm going to pick it up.
-
Anyone know anything about it though? I LOVE excite truck. I still think it plays better than other games like Motorstorm. However, excitebots sounds like.... i donno, transformers doing aerial tricks. You'd think we'd have heard more since it's coming out so soon.

How much did you pay? I'm seeing the cheapest on the bay as about 45 bucks. Sounds like a lot of fun .

Wear and Tear on a Sony PS2 Console
DaytonaUSA replied to ninoy1995's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Oh yea, good point Osbo... my old fat ps2 used to have issues after a while with the door. It kinda grinded a bit and made a noise instead of going in and out smoothly like it used to. And I kept my new system in REALLY nice condition too :-/ -
Wear and Tear on a Sony PS2 Console
DaytonaUSA replied to ninoy1995's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I don't know why you're asking but on ps2s it's almost always the disk drive. I've had 2 on my 2 slims fail me, and one on my phat fail me. It's just a fact of life. I barely used them too as I always used my roomates when I was in college a couple years ago, which is kinda ironic since his never broke. -
iPhone games...I'm actually impressed
DaytonaUSA replied to Lord Helmet's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Cooking Mama is now in the App Store!!!!! I just bought it and it's worth every penny ($6.99)! It's like the Wii and DS version balled into one, and I'm VERY impressed! I love it when Mama gets angry too haha. This is a great sign of things to come. First Katamari, then Time Crisis, then DDR, now this... nice to see devs other than unknown indies making good games. -
No problem, bud.

iPhone games...I'm actually impressed
DaytonaUSA replied to Lord Helmet's topic in Modern Console Discussion
There are a bunch of great games that are $1.99-$.99 It's actually pretty amazing how cheap the games are considering how good some of them are. The problem is finding the gems amongst all of the crap. But now that the iShoot's creator's success got so popular, a lot of games I was iffy about finally have demos. I'm really glad I waited on some of them till the demo came out though, as games like Super Monkey Ball were near unplayable. Go check out Pharos though, you wont be disappointed. -

Hey guys, get Pharos IV: Assault. Wow am I impressed. reminds me of xwing vs tie fighter in a way.. very mid 90's PC dogfight style of play. And its only $.99 -
No offense, but taking advice from anyone who says that the ps3 has essentially cruddy games, and cites Warhawk out of all games (and to a lesser extent Lair, who's control issues are now fixed) is a poor idea. I really appreciate him saying to get all three systems, as that is a great idea (all the systems are great, I only suggest the ps3 over the 360 because of it being a better "deal" and more reliable) even if he took a big stab on the ps3 along the way, but seriously, Warhawk is one of the best online experiences I have had for ANY system. Please ignore him if you get a ps3 one day, and buy it because it is one of the best exclusives you'll find on the system.

Just for the future, post this in the modern game section next time, not the ps3 section. Anywho, slim is just fine either way. Of course, drives are better horizontally than vertically, but you shouldn't notice any problems with the slim either way as the problems with their disk drives are manufacturer's issues, not by how they're placed. If you do find problems with the drive because it's been stood up vertically, it won't start for a VERY long time . You're fine either way bud, just put it how you want it .

PS3 is the complete package. Don't be fooled by the 360's lower price tag.. you'll end up spending that much anyway if you want Live, wifi, or a recharge kit. To be honest though, if you have that much money, I'd buy a Sega Saturn first

Wow.. i needed to go to bed, but I wanted to try out my purchase... I was stuck for the first three levels before I realized how late it was. Absolutely beautiful. This is the type of stuff I like to see tilt motion used for. It works flawlessly and makes you feel like part of the environment. I can't recommend this game enough. Wow..
