  1. @Atari2008

    Glad I can help :). I'm not normally this dedicated to advocating a system, but this really takes the cake. Absolute treasure this thing is.

    @Catpix

    Dude, that is weird! I knew they all had S-Video. That does look like a professional job. So the S-video is led to another place in the system? Does the wire lead to anywhere? Seriously odd! I hope you can find someone here with the answer.

  2. It is really nice to see the 3DO getting love after all these years. I don't know why but for whatever reason this system that I coveted when I was 10 years old has been brought back to my consciousness. I do agree, finally getting my hands on one, since I never even saw one in person, would be quite awesome. It's a bit beyond my range at $100-$150 but of course far less than the $700 price tag it carried when I was a kid. :D Seriously considering owning one.

    You really should find one. Can't remember the last time I was this impressed with a system.

  3. The 3DO kicks it's butt, for sure.

    What's wrong with the Sega CD version of Out of this World? Not counting the sequel on the same disc, I never saw anything flawed or bad about the port of the first game. It was true to the original computer versions. Or am I missing something?

    I like the 3DO version, but it runs at about twice as fast as every other version does, which makes some parts a lot more difficult (not that they really needed to be to begin with). The remastered visuals are nice though.

  4. Woo Hoo! I beat Super Street Fighter II Turbo!!!

    Seriously, I've never been able to beat Street Fighter II before, this is a crowning achievement for me :). I wasn't even playing on the easiest difficulty, haha. I've never been able to beat M. Bison, let alone on the first try. So proud!

  5. Man, that was a **NICE** mint-in-box PS2! I believe that was the SCPH-39001 in the Online pack, my favorite model. The 30001 was the launch model, and I believe had more of the infamous "Disc Read Error" than the later models. The 39001 was obviously a revision, and was the last to have the firewire (i-link) link port. The 50001 (and later) lacked this port, although was marketed with "quieter fan and built-in IR receiver."

    Some of the later PS2 games would link through ethernet. But the "ultimate" PS2 link system is two 39001s linked through both the iLink and the ethernet!

    Thanks. Yeah, it'll go to a good home, really great system.

    Btw, I'll offer free shipping on the Game Gear and GB games if anyone is interested.

    I'm adding an import 360. I'll have pictures up later tonight. Details in the first post. Thanks!

  6. Hi guys,

    Well, don't feel old. This will make you laugh and feel good about yourself..

    I remember seeing the comedian George Burns on the Tonight show on the occasion of his 94th birthday.

    Johnny Carson was the host, and he asked the question;

    "George, you chain smoke cigars all day, you drink bourbon on the rocks, and you are often seen in the company of much younger women. What do your doctors say about maintaining that type of lifestyle, especially at your age?"

    Burns took a puff on his cigar, and thought about it for a moment, and replied;

    "My doctors are all dead."

    Anthony...

    The George Burns and Gracie Allen show was great. George Burns' last public appearance was right before his 100th birthday. He was at the newly unveiled street named Burns & Allen. Even at 100 his quips were great.

    "It's good to be here at the corner of Burns & Allen. At my age, it's good to be anywhere!"

  7.

    To be fair, you started with arguably the best games on the system. It's only downhill from here. ;)

    Hardi Har Har :P. There's still many great games I want. Samurai Shodown, Star Control II, Primal Rage, Novastorm, Burning Soldier, Starblade, Ultraman, Rebel Asault, Crash N Burn, Need for Speed, Wing Commander III, Lemmings, etc etc etc :). It'll keep me entertained a good long time :).

    Sure there are a lot of stinkers, but the system has a surprising amount of great content. Probably because there are a lot of PC ports. Ports many systems didn't get, or didn't get with any quality...

  8. I'll post pics whenever I can, I do'nt have the console at hand right now.

    The hole is obscured.

    I have no clue about the system origins. I bought it used, loose, last year, for 35€. I can only tell it's a NTSC model, but I found no clues on Internet to know the difference between a Japanese or an US unit (the unit was retrofitted with a 220V 50Htz power supply as well). I suppose I could get a definitive answer by burning one of those text games with special Kanjis that US and PAL unit can't read, to be sure.

    Both the US and Japanese unit should have S-Video. You'll know if it's a Japanese unit. There should be Japanese writing on the bottom instead of English, and there should be a white sticker on the bottom that's in Japanese as well.

    This is actually pretty exciting. Maybe it's a kiosky model or something?

  9. GameSpot just released their review video...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53Ccj8yQ3l8

    A bit more detailed than previous vids but doesn't go into details about what works and what doesn't. We now know that you can load unrecognised games for some systems. NES/Famicom is yet unconfirmed, but 16-bit homebrew/repros appears to be a possibility. Sonic and Knuckles appeared to have trouble dumping in lock on mode with Sonic 2 & 3. Hopefully they fix this in firmware updates. Also be forewarned, it appears rewriting saves to SA-1 games may not work. Retron5 failed to write back the SMRPG save to the cart. So for now I wouldn't advise using it as a backup for chipped RPG games if you have cherished save file on it. Sadly, Retrode won't work with SA-1 games either so your best option is still to replace the battery before you start a new save.

    Honestly, doesn't surprise me one bit. After all the delays it seemed pretty obvious they weren't ready. Great idea but I'll wait until they fix the issues, if they ever do...

  10. Can you post a pic?

    All 3DOs should have s-video.

    Wonder if that's a pre-release unit or something.

    desiv

    I agree. I've found nothing that states that any 3DO came without S-Video built in. Please post pics! Did you buy it when it came out, or did you get it used later down the line?

  11. Thanks for the suggestions! Do the games that use the mouse still use the joypad? I'm not sure I'd be able to find a mouse now a days.

    I've been having a ton of fun with Starfighter btw. Great game. Played Road Rash and SFII Turbo all night last night till the early morning :). I really need to get Samurai Shodown now, haha.

    Up next is Gex. I've never played it before, but after testing it for a couple minutes, I can say it at least has some amazing audio. Hopefully the game is just as good.

    I'd like to get some games, but I'll be very careful. I really want complete games, and while they're tempting, I've learned with my latest Saturn collection (I've collected for it at least 3 times, starting over every time I sell the system for whatever reason) that I hate loose CD game discs. There's something so ... uneventful about a loose disc compared to a loose cart.

    I really love these longboxes, however they are a bit too long. When you make a longcase Saturn case look small, you know it's big. I just can't seem to figure out how to display these things. I can lay them down, but that's not too great for the boxes. We'll see...
