All-Star Dad Builds Incredible Basement Arcade With His Son
DaytonaUSA replied to stevenhowlett's topic in Arcade and Pinball
How can you spend all that money and NOT get two player Daytona USA!? Single player isnt nearly as fun! Even still very awesome. I can't imagine saving up for all of that. -
Gatcha. sarcasm in text is hard to catch sometimes. As much as I'd hate to point you to a d&b I do know most have that machine. Check it out sometime

Ah, cool thanks! Glad I didn't run it, my colors are fine. But for the original poster, this sounds like it would be the perfect fix. Hope he tries that!

Arcade games that were better on consoles

The wireframe guy in Punch Out was actually kinda cool . Felt like you were doing the fight, and not someone else . -
Rossi's Vintage Arcade & Pizzeria in Monona, WI
DaytonaUSA replied to DaveD's topic in Arcade and Pinball
I wish more places like this existed. Every time I see a D&B I die a little more inside.... -
Uh huh.... :-/ First, I emplore you to play it. It's actually very fun. Arguably more so than the first, as you actually have to reload... and other gameplay elements such as shooting special targets and collecting candy bars (health). Also, MAME for that game is way off. It's enough to play it, but many of the effects still haven't been emulated either well or at all. heck, the whole flashlight section of the last level is completely missing in current emulation, and fog/environments/colors looks downright horrid. That and, as with the first Jurassic Park, I'd hope you'd understand that playing a lightgun game through a PC is..... less than satisfying. Not saying you need to get it. I honestly was just happy someone mentioned Jurassic Park. Just figured someone who "hated" it so much would have at least tried it if they liked the first so much. There is a reason why it's so popular. Its a hoot.

Can't help on the monitor connection, but I just wanted to say I like where you're going with this. If the monitor is nice, and you can figure out how to connect it to a PC, it would be great to do a MAME cab that way. Heck, you could make the outside look like whatever cab you like, and it could play that game. My only question is what condition is the wood in? If the back crumbled that easily, wouldn't the rest be like that? Don't worry about the coin slot mechanism. If you're using it for MAME, the coin slot is really just for show, no? I don't know what lights it takes, but I have extra coin slot lights (over 30 in fact lol). If you need a couple to get those lit up, I wouldn't mind shipping you a pair to help you out. Repaint, some silkscreen decals, new controls, hook ups on the monitor, and the MAME PC. Lots of work, but perfectly doable.

I saw that switch on my Lost World arcade machine. What does that do? Dont mean to hijack the thread.

Arcade games that were better on consoles
DaytonaUSA replied to DaytonaUSA's topic in Arcade and Pinball
Blades of Steel had an arcade release??? I'll have to check that out! And yeah, Contra was a POS in the arcade. I played that when I was young after playing the NES version to death and was sorely disappointed in what was being presented to me, lol. -
Please post some pictures . I'd love to see a Berserk cab, even if it's.... not one any more. I know it might not be worth the money, but are you seriously considering turning it back into one? Frankly, it would be a shame to see this become just another MAME cabinet. Rebuilding it to its former glory wouldn't be easy, I'm sure, but it would be one hell of a pay off if you could get it back like it was back in the day . Seriously exited to see what you do, either way you take it. Please post pics when you get a chance, and if you need any help feel free to ask away!

Basing it on footage I've seen online. I know I'll never see one in real life. Good choice on JP BTW. No love for The Lost World? Don't bother with jp3. Nearly as bad as the film.

How much does it cost to make a Mame machine?
DaytonaUSA replied to xDragonWarrior's topic in Arcade and Pinball
Ugh. That sounds like a headache. Aren't prefab Mame cabs about a k? Just let someone else do the dirty work. Or better yet, spend the same amount of money on a real cabinet -
I figured this would be fun. Think of arcade games where the game was actually worse in the arcade than its home console port. It doesn't have to mean graphically. Could also be gameplay wise. Some ones off the top of my head. Contra: Super C (same game) played much better than the arcade game and looked better to boot. The arcade had a horrible color palette that looked washed out and bland. And its controls were sluggish in comparison to the nes counterpart. Roadblasters: Granted it looked better in the arcade and on the Genesis, I thought the game had a better pace and controlled better on the nes. Lastly, Ninja Gaiden: while it had better graphics in the arcade, the play style was horrible compared to the more platformer-like NES title. Both are hard as nails but that seems to be where the similarities end.

Yeah. I'm in Arizona. I've noticed they're cheaper than they were in Ohio. But ATM the selection is a bit bare. Ah well awesome collection! You should get a lost world arcade
-
That's a LOT of quarters. Do they have a free play mode? lol
-
Nice Gorf! I'm really envious of your collection! And here I am thinking I'm hot stuff with my Lost World cab, haha. We want a second, preferably an older game, but craigslist in my area is dry. Either over priced classics, or overpriced crud. Nearly every one in horrible condition. I don't know where you're from, but it seems like it's an arcade machine haven!

Wait...where would the quarters go?

Kinect-less Xbox One Available June 9th
DaytonaUSA replied to Metal Ghost's topic in Microsoft Xbox One
I didn't say anything in malice. If it read wrong, I'm sorry. But I'm just sitting here having an enjoyable night with my family. Forgive me for not reading the rest of your post, but I just don't come here to fight. Enjoy which you like. -
Ugh, please place this in modern gaming. This is what I get for going back and forth between sections. Thanks.

And Sony is killing themselves . Seriously, as long as either don't plummet in sales (think Wii U), it doesn't really matter either way. Looking back, with the exception of the NES, I always seem to go after the underdogs anyway for whatever reason. I guess their weird quirks always gelled with me . -
I'm curious how everyone's controllers are wearing. I've owned both a PS4 and Xbox One, and I'll go over some things that I, and my friends, have experienced on both. What have you experienced? I will say this. Both my and my friends treat our gaming consoles and controllers like they're precious gems, haha. Seriously, I don't press on the joysticks hard, I don't mash buttons, or throw controllers. All controllers were treated like babies. Despite this, we've seen excessive wear. PS4 Dualshock: 1. Every dualshock 4 that I've owned (4) and everyone that my friends own, seem to lose their "rough" feel after a couple weeks or less. It's hard to explain unless you have a two month controller next to a brand new, untouched one. The rough feeling of the plastic goes away completely and becomes smooth... very smooth, which doesn't seem to absorb hand oils at all. Issue doesn't seem to be resolved yet. 2. I've had two (my original and its replacement) who's R1 buttons ended up sticking/breaking after 1-2 months of use. The second one eventually stick in and never popped back out again. Issue seems to have been resolved with the last two controllers I purchased. 3. Joystick rubber wears away very quickly. Any texture quickly dissolves away and becomes abnormally slick even after being cleaned. My friends controllers also started to rip. While I can't comment on the ripping, the quickly dissolving texture seems to have not been fixed. Xbox One controller: 1. Ripping joystick rubber. This is a weird one. My Day One edition controller seems to be fine, but my second controller (which was recently replaced) had rubber starting to split, despite never really being used. My friend's original Xbox One controller did the same within 2 weeks. His new one seems problem free. I'm not sure if the issue has been fixed, nor if all controllers were effected. It's weird my Day One edition is fine, but the one made afterwards wasn't. 2. Broken L trigger. My friend's first Xbox One controller had a defective L trigger. By the time he returned it, it had stopped working completely, along with the rumble motor inside for that specific trigger. I've not had any of these issues, thank goodness. I'm not sure if this was widespread or not. All in all, the Xbox One's controller at least has a matte finish that STAYS matte. Which feels good on the hands. But there seems to be a common joystick rubber issue between the two brands, at the very least in the beginning of production. Hardware is a completely different matter. My launch PS4 was returned, and my buddies launch Xbox One was returned. Seemed each had their equal share of launch hickups. What have you experienced? Leave your comments below .

Kinect-less Xbox One Available June 9th
DaytonaUSA replied to Metal Ghost's topic in Microsoft Xbox One
I'm not allowed to like an experience? The original Xbox's OS was very basic. The 360's blade system, then it's W8 UI weren't nearly as user friendly as the Xbox One's. Not even close. Hence why I enjoy using the hardware more. That and the Kinect 2.0 works significantly better than the original... which I wanted to throw out of a window. People have different preferences. I simply was stating that I enjoy the Kinect 2.0. For everyone you can find here that hates it, I can find people online who share my opinion that its beneficial, especially outside of games. Sorry you can't understand that people like a device. If you get a Kinect-less Xbox One, that's great. You'll still have a great amount of fun. Who cares what people choose? That's why they'll be two skus, lol. Either way, at the end of the day, games are what is most important in addition to UI preferences. And I simply think the selection on Xbox One is better geared to my taste. But seriously, either way you go, you'll have fun. Most games (at least on the PS4 and X1) are just multiplats anyway. At that point it's all about UI, or maybe controller. Which is another point I like about the Xbox One, but that's for another topic. -
I really, really want to try this. But I don't want to plunk down full price for it right now. I know it's about 45 in stores right now, but just a hair too much for such a short experience. I've heard nothing but great things from my friends. Frankly I seem to always like the games that reviewers always seem to feel lukewarm to. Maybe it'll be the same with Ryse.

As someone who thought my "only" choice was the PS4 this gen, I encourage you to try the Xbox One. Maybe if one of your friends has one. Really changed my mind the first time I got my hands on it. To each their own of course, but I like this significantly more than I ever did the 360 or the original Xbox. -
Interesting way of looking at the topic. Wasn't even thinking people would consider worth as a reason to have one.
