  1. That makes sense. Because yeah... definitely didn't look astounding. Really pleased so many people like Star Castle, though.
  2. I never heard of Computer Space before. Looked it up on youtube, and dang.. can't see what you see in it. I'm sure it was great back then, but the sound effects are horribly annoying and the gameplay looks very slow and monotonous. I'm assuming you grew up with the game, hence why you like it so much? Just curious
  3. I actually think this is kinda stupid. I'm not denying it'll help sell units, which I guess is the only real end-goal. But as a guy who got the PS4 first, and the Xbox One just recently, I too thought the Kinect 2.0 would be crap. After owning the first, I vowed I'd never get another again. But for me, the Xbox One has become my preferred console for many reasons, one of the big ones is because of the Kinect. Voice commands are actually convenient, and I find the Kinect controls to be welcome. Heck, my wife has used the Xbox One for TV and streaming TV programs. This is the first system she's touched since the 2600. Despite the fact our old PS3 and 360 have Netflix and Hulu, she simply wouldn't touch a controller. Same with the PS4.. wouldn't have it. On top of that, the camera is very useful for Skype (I actually love Skype on the Xbox One, with its auto panning feature) and Twitch TV. Combined with the Snap function, it's all very fun. I wouldn't buy a Kinect-only game to save my life, sure. But I like it for its other functions. The thing is, I wasn't looking forward to any of this. If it didn't come with my used Day One Edition, I'd have simply never played with it, and I would have missed out greatly. Again, I get it. It's for sales. And I hope they get more because of it. But new adapters honestly will miss out on what helps make the W8 UI so great. And that's a shame. I honestly wish Microsoft just stuck with it.
  4. It seems when ordering some coin slot wedge lights for my JP: The Lost World arcade machine, I inadvertently got 3 boxes of 10 bulbs, instead of just one box. Didn't hurt any, as they were affordable anyway, but I really don't need the last 20. If anyone needs some, I'm happy to give them away for the cost of shipping. Just let me know. I'd like to keep it even numbers, (2, 4 etc) so I don't end up with a single one at the end. Figured I'd help out anyone else who has these compatible bulbs and needs one. They are EIKO #555 6.3 Volt, .25 amp wedge lights that are compatible with late model arcades and pinball machines. It said on the site it was compatible with SEGA, Stern, Data East, Gottlieb, Williams and Bally.
  5. Totally forgot about battlezone. Love that game. Oh yeah, and lunar lander...
  6. His stuff looks great. I'll have to keep him in mine in case I find a beat up cab.
  7. Wow, that's really cool! I might need to invest in one of these once we get our second arcade unit in.
  8. No ports are allowed, therefor only original arcade hardware. No MAME, no NES, no Atari 7800, etc Sure pinballs are allowed . Hmm, I guess if that's the case I need to add a couple pinball units to my runners up tab... Glad to see a lot of Daytona USAs listed!
  9. Figured with the depressing "worst arcade games of all time" threads, we'd have one that focused on the good . So, hypothetical situation. If you were only able to play/own three arcade games for the rest of your life, which would they be? IE: Which do you love the most that you couldn't live without? And this includes ports, so you'd be cut off from any Xbox Live or Neo Geo CD games, etc. For me it's: Jurassic Park: The Lost World Daytona USA Star Wars Arcade Trilogy Runners up: Virtua Fighter KoF 99 Sega Rally Frogger Ms Pac-Man I know I'd really, really miss my runners up. But I think I'd slip into depression at the thought of never seeing another cabinet of the first three . How about you?
  10. Hey bud, congrats on the arcade machine! Dragon's Lair always was really hard for me as a kid, but I was always drawn to it since it was so gorgeous, graphically. Some questions. Can you use any ol' laser disc player? I'm assuming the game's main board controls the laser disc player, and the game is just on a disc, right? If so, I have a really high quality laserdisc player (Sony) that's worth over a hundred bucks (one of the rare ones) that I don't use anymore. If it'll help you out, and it'll work, I'd give it to you for the cost of shipping. I figure it runs on something proprietary, but in the case it doesn't I hope I could help. I know what it feels like to get a new arcade machine, and I can't imagine how anxious you are to get this thing off the ground. Other questions. Have you gotten the laser disc out of the player to verify it's in there at all? Considering how it was vandalized, isn't it a possibility that someone stole the disc from the player? Also, you said you can print the graphics out for the cabinet. How would you get the vector art for it? If you need any help with the art, just let me know, I'm a graphic designer. I'd be really happy to help ya. Best of luck, please keep us updated!
  11. Thanks Benny. My boss wasn't in, but tomorrow I'll ask to borrow that camera. Can't wait to film this thing. The replacement coin bulb has a split wire, so it isn't working. Im going to go pick up a new one tomorrow after work . Fun moment. For whatever reason I decided to try seeing if anything was in the coin return. In the 1P slot, there was a quarter. How it stayed in the coin return tray during the move all the way across the desert and up 3 flights of stairs is anyone's guess. I know it's just a quarter, but it's from the 90's and it's kinda neat that it's survived after years of play on "free play" mode. Made my day.
  12. Thanks for the advice guys! I'm glad that it's safe to do the power strip thing. And yep, it's a surge protector, so I should be good. I'm definitely not taking any chances on this thing getting destroyed from a power spike. The remote idea is awesome. I'd be really interested in how you set that up. I've never heard of a remote control on a power strip before. I'm going to be borrowing our company's film camera to film the unit. I tried to do that for this weekend, but couldn't. In the meantime, I took more pictures. I also went ahead and replaced the florescent light tube behind the marque. Looks a like nicer now. Anywho, here are the pictures. I took some pics of the inside. The arcade unit is number 32,163, made in January 1998. I love how the test/service strip looks like something out of a Jurassic Park jeep . I replaced the P1 coin lamp. Was pretty easy! Just glad I had two extras: I accidentally shot an "L" instead of a "B"... now the high score is DAL... ugh. Newly backlit marque:
  13. Really quick. Is it OK to power off the unit by turning off the power strip. I thought I heard its OK. I can't reach the power switch. Its way in the back on the right against the wall. Seems to power up and down fine, but I wanted to make sure. Thanks guys.
  14. Thanks man, I really appreciate it . Keep checking around here, I'll have video soon. Wow, I don't think I've had you ever respond to any of my topics before! Quite an honor! It is very hard to find the machines I like in good condition. I guess I like the ones others like, haha. Both the Lost World and SW Trilogy Arcade are going up in price, I've noticed, for ones that aren't completely beat to hell or broken. I remember even in the arcade, in the last years of their existence, SW Trilogy Arcade's joystick would always be completely off, or not even register a certain direction. My co-workers and I went to D&B for our quarterly outing our dept does. It was a lot of fun with the guys out there, but their Lost World machine was in total disrepair. The guy I played two player with asked me if this was "it" (alluding to its poor quality). I tried to describe what it would be like if it weren't beat up, if the guns weren't 5 inches off calibration (I swear, they were that bad), and if the screen wasn't washed out to the point of being half white, without burn in EVERYwhere. Was pretty hard to convey. Now the guys all want to come to my house to play the real thing, haha. I honestly can't wait to show it to them. Btw, if anyone knows how many of these units were made, please let me know. I can't find any information on sales. I'm really curious if my machine is the end of the run or not. I figure with it being such a high number, and it being made in 98 it must be getting there. Thanks!
  15. Thanks . Yeah, it's really in immaculate condition. I feel so lucky, I really do. Can't wait to show you guys more later.
  16. When I was a younger, there were a lot of arcade games that really made an impression on me. While I started playing games with the NES, I didn't start hitting up the arcades till the early-mid 90s. Games like Daytona USA, Sega Rally, etc. (usually Sega titles...) were some of the most visually impressive and enjoyable games I've ever played. One title in particular really stood out. A game that was never ported to any system, and one that I've always wanted to own. I still remember the first time I played the game at Ghattiland (sp?) in Kentucky. The Lost World was around the corner, and as an N64 owner, it's graphics blew me away, none the less the incredible sound. That game was Jurassic Park: The Lost World. Well, after all these years (17!), I finally found one, had the funds for it, AND had a place in the house for it (and heck, my wife likes it, to boot!). It was owned by a private collector since the later part of the 90s, so it honestly is in astounding shape. It came from a couple states away, and was shipped by CRST (NA van lines' old arcade division was bought by them. I think it's called Precision shipping, or something like that. They do arcade and pinball machines and not much else). There's not a scratch, none the less a finger print on the glass, the vinyl looks nearly perfect, the picture is uber colorful and clear with no burn in on the screen, and it runs like a champ. I got the original coin tray, locks, keys, even the manual. I do have the TRex marque, but seeming as every arcade I ever played the game in never had it in place, for me it looks better without it. Anywho, I'll be posting some videos and pictures soon, outside of the couple below of my wife playing the game. It's my first arcade cabinet, and maaaaybe not my last. Although, I'd be happy with just this. If I ever got another, the only other game that's yet to be ported that I NEED would be Star Wars Arcade Trilogy. Anywho, I hope you all enjoy. I'll be showing its innards in the video, showing off it's gigantic CPUs and test button configuration. If theres anything you guys want to see, I'll be sure to film it or take a picture. I found the number on it. It's in the upper 36k, made 1/21/98. I'm assuming that means it's one of the last ones made. But I'm not too sure how many were made. I just can't believe they made THIS many. Maybe I'm just used to pinball numbers which often numbered in the single thousands. Till later, enjoy the pics:
  17. I have a boxed PS2, the special "online pack" edition, with all styrofoam, booklets, baggies, etc. I also have a number of games. I'm looking for a Sega Master System in good shape. Weirdest trade, I know. To be honest, I'm not 100% sure I should get rid of the PS2 (as I love oh so many PS1 games I play on it), but I really want a SMS again. I'll post pics later if I get any interest.
  18. Finally got through to Sony. Apparently they upgraded their systems, and so tons of old tickets got renewed for no reason what so ever. So if you get this type of email, don't freak out. People aren't using your identity or anything. Just Sony being... well, Sony.
  19. I got a case number email today regarding a box being sent to me for my PS4... Thing is, the case number doesn't even exist. Under a different case number, my only ticket in recent history was completed when I received my PS4 back from replacement back in late December. Just curious if anyone else got one of these weird emails. Seems like something is going screwy at Sony (big shock). On the phone with them right now to see if anything fishy is going on.
  20. Yeah, I've been loving my streaming TV as it runs a lot better than the PS3 (on PS4). Yeah, guess it's just launch week jitters. I think they've weeded out whatever manufacturing issues they had. But yeah, the initial experiences kinda sucked, but the system has been a blast so far, and everything has been working since... so I guess I'm good for now.
  21. Wasn't this posted on the internet about the time the 2DS came out?
  22. I would if the computer didn't need a SCSI port to talk to the katana. The mac doesn't have that.
  23. Ok, somoene on Assembler said it must then be stuck on "dev mode", and in order to get it out of that, I need to boot a program on a pc connected to it..... a pc I don't have lol. On to find an old crappy 90's pc.... yay.
  24. The dip switches define how it's output. All down should be AV/Svideo. Rotary is region. 4 is US, 0 is Japan, etc. Not sure on the slider. Here's a pic of the back.
  25. Katana came today! Pictures below. I can't seem to figure out how to get it to display on either a VGA monitor or basic TV. I've tried a number of different dip switch/rotary switch combinations. Any thoughts? Anyone know how to work this thing?
