  2. The single biggest problem with building a proper CV paddle controller is that, unlike the Atari or Commodore systems, the CV does not have anything for actual analog input. Anyone can build a paddle controller for them: all you need is a decent potentiometer and to know where what wires go where (pins 5, 7, and 9).

     

    The Turbo module and Roller Controller both need 6V power input, and all they do is "pulse;" the faster you spin them, the more pulses result, and the more quickly the whatever-it-is will move. This is NOT the same as analog, unfortunately, and the interrupt-trouble Opcode mentioned is outside my experience.

     

    However, there is an obvious exception to this rule: have you ever tried Turbo or Slither with the little wheel on a Super Action Controller? With Slither, try it with CV port 1, and then 2- see what happens.

     

    A while back, I built a crude no-power paddle controller for the CV- it was actually like a crummy Atari VCS Indy 500 controller. It would have to be, for a CV. It was based on the SAC wheel circuitry. Would an Arkanoid paddle controller do this? It would require more contacts/spin than a SAC wheel, or it would be too slow to react.

     

    The two designs used: one, a pair of relays (magnetism), and the other used brushes, like the Indy 500 paddle.

     

     

     

    Opcode- is it necessary for that game to use an upgrade module? If you can cram 128K into a CV cartridge, would that not be enough? A minor compromise in graphics is no problem for a CV owner.

    Hmm if it's too slow try some gearing in there. That would be cool to try out.

  3. Back in the day, Radio Shack used to be THE place to go, but now they hire any schlub that walks in the door. There's one by my house, though, that does have a good staff that actually knows what's up.

     

    The problem is that they shifted from electronics and hobbyists to mainstream stuff like cell phones and home theater systems and crap.

     

    There's one down the street for me, it's where I went. I went once to look for some crystals for overclocking stuff, they told me to check out a rock store :roll:. I told them crystals are used IN radios, they still had no clue.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! The one near me was pretty good until they started hiring Mexicans. Not that they don't work hard (which they do) it's just that if they don't speak English, it's not a good idea to put them in a position where they need to speak to and help English speaking people.

I just saw a review for this over on Classic Game Room this week, and what originally looks like a bad side scroller starring a mushroom actually seems to be an interesting little puzzle/side-scroller adventure featuring Docomodake. Who/what is Docomodake? It's the advertising moscot for a Japanese mobile phone provider...and no, the game does not even mention cell phones...from what I've seen it looks like a fun little game to pick up. Anyone else interested in Docomodake?

    Yeah I saw that review too. I'm surprised he didn't mention transformers :D


  5. Has there been a final decision/solution for a controller for this game yet? There was talk of an adapter dongle for use with Atari paddle controllers, is still the thought?

    We still have a year before this comes out. I think it will be solved by then.


  6. Wow great site!!! I found something to do instead of my research paper! Anyway I only have 3 problems.

     

    1. That version of Tetris is shit.

    2. You need to include customizable layouts for buttons. Megaman and Pinball is unplayable like that.

    3. Arkanoid doesn't support the mouse.

     

    Also how hard would it be to add some other Shmups like Gyruss and Gradius? (not being sarcastic. that was an actual question)


  7. I never threw away anything but boxes and never traded anything from my collection. BUT when I moved out of my parents house at the age of 19 or so I left all of my game stuff there for the most part because I had nowhere to store it. My mom threw it all away, along with my golf clubs. I showed up one day a few years later and started rooting around for it because I finally moved into a place with enough room for all that stuff and it was gone! I was like WTF!! Mom said she threw away all those "toys" a while back because she didn't think I wanted them anymore. Thrown away items include: 4 Atari 2600s, 2 Nintendo NES's, 1 Vectrex, 1 SNES, a few different handhelds, and a huge collection of games for all of them.

     

    It was a very "Doh!" moment when I discovered what she had done.

    Did you happen to smash her head in?


  8. I posted two new videos on Youtube. It turned out that after uploading them the videos were converted and became a "choppiness" mess. They just don't make justice to the real thing, which is as smooth as the arcade.

    Anyway, it is progressing, though slowly, as I have other priorities this month...

    Gameplay is fast and furious, just like the arcade. Blocks are working, balls are working, Vaus is there, capsules too, though we cannot see them yet, as the sprite driver is still very preliminary. Still missing are the enemies.

    I believe I still have roughly 1/3 of free CPU time per frame. Lets see what happens when the enemies are added. The enemy logic seems to be quite simple. It shouldn't be a big burden for the CPU. Then, depending on how much CPU is left, I will decide how to handle the sprite driver.

    Edit: BTW, the game is already using the MegaCart.

    Very impressive! The only thing is there seems to be a slight collision issue in the second video but seeing as you are the master at coding for the CV, that shouldn't be a problem.


  9. I just got myself a CIB copy of Street Fighter II: Championship Edition for the Genesis on eBay for about $6. I'm guessing this is a pretty good deal, not to mention I have the 6-button controller for the Genesis so I'll be able to fully enjoy the game...so just wondering...who's everyone's favorite fighter?

     

    I'm pretty much a Street Fighter virgin so I have no idea who I'll end up using...but I'm thinking Chun Li. :P

    Exactly. I don't want to waste money on a console that doesn't work unless I'm buying it with the intention to fix it.

     

    Good point. I'm often tempted by the console-only sales, but I've never pulled the trigger. I think I'll take your advice and avoid those from now on.

    I just went and bought this yesterday. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=380108258895. Everything It uses is generic with the exception of the controller so I just went for it. Works flawlessly.


  11. I'm ALMOST, but not quite, the opposite of the OP.

     

    1) I will not worry about getting box and docs with my games. However, I will make sure the cart looks clean and well-cared for, relative to its age.

    1a) Exceptions are SMS and Genesis, where the box actually serves a real purpose.

     

    2) I will buy whatever I feel interested in, since I couldn't do that as a kid, and part of me is making up for lost time.

     

    3) It is extremely useful to buy games first, then when you have a small collection, track down a system.

     

    4) I want to use only original hardware if at all possible, though I am not above modding said hardware to get the best results on my HDTV.

     

    5) Emulators are neat tools for judging games, but are not a substitute for the real thing.

     

    6) Collect something because you want it, not because it gives you something more to collect. Once I get all the games on my wantlist, I'm going to scale my collecting way back, and just enjoy myself. I won't decide to start collecting Colecovision, for example, just because I have nothing else to hunt for.

     

    I agree with all except 6. I collect consoles not the games. If there are games on a said console that interest me then I will buy them. If not, oh well. I'll still own the console as a collector's item. For example, GameGear. I bought one because it's a cool thing to own, not because I would play it.


  12. I picked up a shark for the original Playstation, the kind that plugs into the rear port. I have yet to test it but it's here, and makes the second one that I have that I haven't messed with yet. The seal's been broken on it, but I doubt that anything has been touched inside. Probably just curious owners.

    LOL that thing is the main culprit of lost I/O port covers.....followed close second by curious 5 year olds.
