It was something like ezkliquidators_discounts. I purchased two more of them last night, as I am going to perform a backlight mod, and--even though I've already performed it before--don't want to be without a working Majesco system ever again. The other is for the bomb shelter.... Last I checked, they had 9 left.

Well, I'm going on 18 hours on the first charge of these batteries. Not bad, eh? Today, however, I had a wonderful surprise. I had ordered a 'New' Boxed Game Gear. The eBay store had many of them. The lister stated that they were new/old stock, but the screens looked scratched and were replaced with new screen protectors. The box in the picture was of an original Sega-made unit, and I figured it probably wasn't new...but I couldn't help but take the gamble (as the price was so good). What arrived today, however, was a sealed Majesco unit. Suddenly, I don't care about the screen that I originally posted about! I only bought this to have on hand, since the price was really cheap (actually, it was priced the same as what I remember the Majesos being in Toys R Us years ago). I cannot believe how different the experience is when 1) the D-pad doesn't make terribly loud noises during play and 2) the screen does its job without getting in the way of itself. It's night and day. Looks like I'll be selling the one I originally posted about sometime this week

Everything is in perfect working order. Pictures are of the actual items for sale. Not pictured, however, is the AC adapter which IS INCLUDED. One of the sticks was striped with whiteout (see picture). That stick was purchased from a buddy, and I think he had marked it to differentiate it as his own (or something like that). All of the CIB games include everything that was originally shipped with them (warranty card and/or instructions). All of the boxes are in great condition. I purchased them sealed and opened them, which is why the boxes appear bent (but not creased). All games have original labels and end labels. All of them are in very good cosmetic condition. A few are not perfect, however, as this collection was played with over the years. Loose titles are: Ace of Aces Asteroids Ball Balzer Centipede Crack’ed DigDug Donkey Kong Donkey Kong Junior Double Dragon Fight Night Food Fight Hat Trick Impossible Mission Joust Karateka Kung-Fu Master Mario Bros. Ms. Pac-Man One on One Pole Position II Rampage Baseball Robotron 2084 Pete Rose Baseball Super Skateboardin’ Title Match Pro Wrestling Xenophobe Xevious CIB titles are: Crossbow Dark Chambers Desert Falcon Galaga Jinks Midnight Mutants Ninja Golf Scrapyard Dog Tower Toppler Winter Games $150, shipped to anywhere in the United States.

Well, I had spoken too soon. After a few hours of playing yesterday, the console started shutting off. It would power back on, but would then shut off, each time at a shorter interval. I expected this might happen, so I replaced the rest of the capacitors. Everything is working very well again. The line is still there. I tried the Master Gear Converter again, and noticed that the line is, indeed, present there, but I wasn't noticing it because of the dark backgrounds in the cart I was testing. Upon further inspection, I found that the line isn't exactly as I described it. The first 3rd of the screen is just SLIGHTLY darker than the rest. It's barely noticeable, though, when the screen isn't displaying a solid color. So, everything is great now. I have another model that came with a lot a 'junk' from a local video game store. I don't know its history, but the board is a VA4 (so, one of the last produced before the Majesco rereleases). I'm not sure what I'll do with it yet... ...at any rate, the LED mod was fairly painless, but it was very time consuming. The results are great! I used a plastic drinking straw as a diffuser, and the screen looks no worse than it ever did (in fact, thanks to the new caps, the contrast is even better). Whatever tutorial or video guide you choose to follow, don't be wary of it! I'm very happy that I took the plunge to make the changes.

So, I found a couple of Game Gear consoles while making an attempt to clear out some inventory in my basement. The long and short of it is I sucessfully completely an LED backlight mod as well as replacement of the two .47MF 50V capacitors, which resulted in the correction of a contrast issue. What I didn't realize is that the contrast was bad on this unit during its entire life (I bought it used in 1996). At any rate, I'm wondering if anybody has information about which capacitor does what. Though the actual job of removing and replacing the caps is quite simple, getting them to fit in the case properly is not so. I would rather not replace everything in there, until I absolutely need to. My question about which cap does what, though, relates to the LCD screen itself. There is a vertical line that runs down the screen on the left side, sort of near the 1/3 mark. It is apparent immediately at startup, and it does not go away over time. It has been an issue since removing the device from storage. Since replacing those two caps, however, it is a lot less noticeable. The line is not indicative of dead pixels or anything, just a darker hue. During game play, it is hardly noticeable, but it is certainly there. When turned on with no cartridge, there is no line. This happens with all carts in my collection (of about 20). Does anyone have any idea what the cause could be? It can't be the backlight, because that's been replaced (did it before the mod). I'm recently fascinated by this handheld since successfully completing these mods. The contrast and picture are so much better than I remember, and the device is going on 16 hours of charge with six rechargeable batteries (which has me stunned). Anyone have any insight as to what the problem could be and/or (most importantly) knowledge of the function of each cap on the board?

I'd say the CX-10, if only it didn't hurt my trigger finger so much.

Porky's is officially the most frustrating game I've ever played on the 2600. Design is decent, graphics are nice, hit detection is TERRIBLE. FUCK PORKY'S!

So, I'm a fan of the E.T. game. I think it's varied, and it's a pretty neat adventure. The way people get all frustrated about the pits? I get all frustrated about...well....all of the hit-detection sensitivity of Porky's. It's not terrible. Maybe once I beat it without it going crazy, I'll like it more. Maybe I should use the CX-40s rather than CX-10s...hmm....

If you had to pick one system to keep...

I can't believe the words flowing from my keyboard, but....I'm basing this on a few things (conveniently, I actually am downsizing quite a bit right now): 1) The system that gets used every single day with no exception. 2) Plays the largest range of games. (based on my OWN collection and taste....VERY subjective statement that will not apply to everybody) 3) Is compact in size. 4) Is still very well supported. Ugh...the...Wii....Used every day with a CRT for Netflix, has a few of my favorite NES games installed, has a decent library of games...God, I feel like a sellout... -

Okay, I've been a bad AtariAger....but I did finally reply to all of the personal messages and updated the list in the first post. I was going to do the strikethrough thing, but it became too difficult to read. At any rate, that list is up-to-date as to what I still need. Many Thanks! -
I agree about Pac-Man having nostalgic tones. So does most of the television industry, who have used the sound effects from the 2600 versions of Pac-Man and Donkey Kong to represent video games (particularly in the 19980s and 1990s) in many, many sitcoms. I'll try to dig up some examples. The shows Bailey Kipper's P.O.V., You Can't Do That on Television, Family Matters, and Roseanne come to mind. So, I'm not going to argue something subjective like if they truly are aggravating. They're definitive of gaming in popular culture, however, and that's pretty significant.

I'd have to say the "Don't Stop Believin'" at the beginning of Journey Escape. It sounds like somebody trying to play a song on a telephone. The pitch intervals aren't what we hear from typical instruments (from any period). The result is a sound of something played by an out-of-tune instrument, or by somebody with a REALLY bad ear....

Thanks for the reply. I think that AtariBrian has Co Co Nuts covered. I was hoping to save on shipping by buying multiple carts at a time, but how much would you want for Midnight Magic, shipped?
