  1. Heyo! I'm looking for an Atari 2600, Jr. in good condition. I'd need the AC adapter and RF cable (but not the switchbox). If it's boxed, that'd be super, and I'd be willing to pay a little more, if it were. I've got more games than I know what to do with, but I'd like this small unit for the bar area in my basement. As I said, the box would be wonderful, but not necessary. Thanks! Tis
  2. Is there something off about the OP?
  3. I will say, though, that I get less of headache reading posts here than other places around the web. I guess that shouldn't be a shock, being that this is, inherently, a forum of nerdy-types :-p
  4. I guess I wasn't aware that we weren't allowed to talk about things that directly pertain to the buying and selling of classic games. Craigslist is a major avenue for trade of this stuff...color me confused for finding this thread (and all of its posts) to be ON topic... Maybe I missed something. It looks like someone starts a post about a Craigslist add where someone is looking to buy a video game. A rare game for sure, but still just an online want add. He wasn't listing a buying price, just that he was looking for the game. Then someone posts a bogus reply to the add with a made up story in order to yank the guy's chain, and posts it here. Then it turns into a grade school playground back and forth full of foul languange and personal insults, all posted here. I am not sure how any of that "directly pertains to the buying and selling of classic video games". ...rolls eyes and leaves playground...

  6. AND another thing.... When did an eighth grade education become optional in America? I'm pretty sure misusing your and you're so profusely wasn't tolerated, even in junior high school. It's all about taking pride, I suppose....sorry for the rant....
  7. He (and or she) is a perfect example of why I think it sucks that internet access is available to everybody. People on Craigslist, YouTube, etc. seem to think that they are completely anonymous, and, therefore, conduct themselves as though they can get away with saying anything. It's the perfect scenario for the perpetuation of debase language and idiocrity. Gwedo? I'm pretty sure he'd think twice before saying that in public. The same standards should be observed for internet conduct. I'm preaching to the choir, but I'm weary of such stupidity and hostility... ...and what comes to mind at the moment is when that GameBoyReviewer guy that called me the eff word last year, because I called him out on not reading the instruction manual before doing a colloquially tired review of the 2600 E.T. cart. People are jerks. Sometimes, I'm embarrassed to be one.
  8. BTW, you can disable the onboard controller, plug in a II+ controller + drives and run most of the stuff that has issues with the IIgs. Good to know! Thank you! I assumed that this could be done. I'm in the process of moving into a much bigger place, in which I'll have an entire room to dedicate to these machines, as well as the consoles. Once it's setup, I'll have multiple machines running, and compatibility won't matter. For the next week or so, though, I only have deskspace for one computer at a time. Since the IIgs has the color monitor, it won the battle. Thankfully, it's just PacMan and Moon Patrol (of the Atarisoft titles) that won't work...but, as I said, it won't be an issue next week
  9. I love my Monitor III.... I do, however, wish I had a color CRT for the IIPlus (which wouldn't be an issue if it weren't for the compatability issues with the IIGS and some of the old II software....not to mention the super-cool feeling of the II+'s keyboard)
  10. I have retested all of the software, since it is now AWAY from my amplifier , and (thankfully) none of it was damaged. I also managed to pick up about nine Atarisoft titles from another local Craigslist ad (all of which were sealed). I'm ecstatic to have a playable copy of Gremlins. That was a title I wanted to pick up on my 5200 binge last year, but always seemed too expensive. One last thing.... When it rains, it pours. I was contacted about an Apple II+ system, still boxed, with a modem, extra ram, an Epson Printer, and a boat load software. EVERY component is boxed (except for the Monitor III), and the guy even had receipts for almost everything :-) I couldn't resist picking it up. $100 didn't seem like a lot, especially as I had seen some of these cards alone go for over $90 on eBay. The condition of the unit is perfect. It's been stored in a plastic bag in its box since the late 1980s, and it was VERY well taken care of. I'm in the process of moving, otherwise I'd provide a picture of this really neat score. Now, my only trouble is getting PacMan to load properly on the IIgs. I get the PacMan demo screen, but the screen displays an entire screen of 2s instead of loading the game. It runs fine in the II+, however. I have slowed the IIgs to the "normal" speed, and I have the caps lock on....it still won't load, though. All of the other Atarisoft games are fine.....any ideas?
  11. Side note: That's an interesting phrase above. When you said "classic mac" and PowerMac in the same sentence, it threw me. For me, Classic Mac is 680x0. Great find with the IIGS btw. It's one I don't have and have been interested in. desiv Hehehehe, well, when I think of 'Classic Mac,' my mind definitely wanders to pre-PowerPC days. However, I thought that's the classic he meant Provided I can remember all of that TCP/IP/Open Transport BS and can find the drivers, I think that will be best option for grabbing old disk images from the web. I do, however, remember having a terrible time making vintage disks on that 603 machine (both computers wanting to reformat, etc)...hmmmm.....
  12. I love that you mention Bowling, because, at around 10 or 11, I'd be too afraid to play the game when home alone. There was something eerie about it.... Missile Command had the same effect on me...
  13. I moved the computer and the disks far away from the amp. Good eye on the size, darthkur! I don't know what I was thinking. Apparently, I saw the only few square inches of free surface in my tiny apartment :-) I haven't yet gone through and tested all of the disks again, and, quite frankly, I'm afraid to. It appears as though most of the software library is available in one form or another, so I should be able to recreate them, should anything tragic have happened. I do, actually, have a classic mac. It's in storage at the moment, and I think it's a PowerMac 7600 running OS 8.6. It's got a floppy drive and and ethernet adapter, so I should be able make some new disks for the IIgs when needbe....I just hope mine still work
  14. You must have had a LOT of pennies at the time....
  15. I bought a bunch of games from him last year, and I swear they were $5 a piece then.
  16. Thanks, Jim! That won't come cheap....But what a nifty add-on!
  17. Oh eff... You know, I consider myself a marginally adept guy..... ...but I didn't even think of that. Thankfully, the magnet is against the wall, and a few feet from the disks....oye.....what a dunce....
  18. I would have put this in the 'Thrift Finds' thread, but I had some questions that I didn't want lost in the shuffle. At any rate, I posted an ad on Craigslist, seeking an Apple II (be it IIe, IIc, IIgs, etc). In grade school and junior high, these were the computers that we used in the lab in school, and I had some projects saved on 5.5" floppies that I've been curious about for the last few months now. Assuming that (being that I live in a relatively small town, and these computers went out of vogue almost twenty years ago) I would have no trouble finding abandoned machines that were destined for the dumpster, I was a little surprised to only get two responses. The pictures attached are of the first response. A IIgs CPU, matching monitor, original ADB mouse, working 5.5" and 3.25" disk drives, a Gravis joystick, an Image Writer II printer with sealed ribbon cartridge, and a slew of games, educational, and productivity software. The only thing he couldn't find was the keyboard, which isn't a biggie to me, as I've got a few ADBs sitting around. The guy who owned this was really anal retentive, and (not only) had backups for all of the software, but also had the manuals stored in plastic folders within a binder. He charged me $60 for the lot, and I can't help but feel like I got a good deal. I don't know much (if anything) about the Apple II market these days, and I have no clue if there is any collector value to any of this stuff. Frankly, it doesn't much matter to me. Questions: 1) I'm toying with the notion of implementing small flash drive on which to store the OS and all of the software. Has anybody around here done that? 2) The extended memory card is installed, and is completely full. How does one check the total system memory (other than deciphering what's written on the chipset and multiplying by 32)? 3) I don't recall this machine having great game ports. In fact, I thought the Apple conversions that I had played as a child were generally the inferior iterations. True? Untrue? Here's what I found. I actually forgot a crate of software in the car (most of which is still shrinkwrapped, but is mostly educational software).
  19. For my birthday in 1989, I was given Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Bow-Biters :-). I've still got one of them in a "special papers" box
  20. Man, all this over the Odyssey? It's not even that fun to play. Buy a generic (or Atari) Pong unit....
  21. This is the most exciting news I've heard in quite some time. Lordy, I'm lame
  22. I agree with you completely. It looks like those knockoff Wiimotes were made from hacked Logitech universal remote controls...
  23. That thread went down during my hiatus. I am now completely exhausted after having read only the first page!
