The one I programmed was called "King of theMountain". It used the two twin paddle controllers (like Warlords which
was one of my favorite VCS games) for up to four people to play at
once. The playfield was a mountain that looked sort of like a wedding cake with four layers.
This game sounds really unique and quite fun! It would be quite the party game, much like Warlords.
Too bad a prototype never surfaced for this game. Maybe it will someday?

So the KOTOR bundle is for real? I asked an EB employee but she was clueless. I hope they bring it to the states for Xmas.Dood, you're getting an xbox, aren't you?

I do wish people would stop getting angry at Nintendo for not doing something they never said they were going to do in the first place.I wish people would stop wishing for people not to get angry at Nintendo.
I wasn't angry, I was bummed.
But in reading some of the other replies, it sounds like there should be opportunities to pick this up through other channels (eBay, game stores, etc.). And if it doesn't, oh well. I can always play the originals on my trusty ol' NES toaster.

I find myself going back and playing a lot of:
Dreadnaught Factor: Crank up the difficulty and go after a couple waves of random ships. It's pretty tense and it keeps you on the edge of your seat. Go for those engines on your first runs!
Beamrider: It gets ragged on for the Inty controls, but this is my favorite version of the game on just about any system (C64 being the best IMO).
Burger Time: Of course.
A lot of the later titles really were good and engaging. I think the INTV programmers were really starting to get things figured out.

From the article referred to:
It is unknown if whether or not Nintendo of America will release the disc individually, but at the current time it seems unlikely.AARGHHH!!!
That's a load of BS. What about all the existing GC owners? I'd love to have the promo disk, but surely don't need another GC. How frustrating.

NO YOSHI FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! He's in the game. But he's not rideable. Instead he gives you 1-Up's. And talks. YOSHI DOES NOT TALK!! WTF? I WANT TO RIDE YOU!!!)Super Mario Sunshine did allow you to eventually ride Yoshi. It was a requirement on a couple of the levels. He would eat fruit and squirt juice.
I overall liked the game, but I just couldn't complete some of the upper challenges on the some of the levels. And you pretty much have to complete every challenge to open up the final entrance to complete the game. I haven't played the game for months now, and trying to get used to the controls again to be faced with completing hard levels is pretty daunting. So it looks pretty grim that I'll complete this game.

There was a nice little article about the Classic Gaming Expo on the msn.com web site. Pretty interesting to read the "amused" tone of the article and why people are still in to retro gaming.

Sure wish I could have been there myself.

It's not quite DVD's... but there are VCD player programs available for the Dreamcast. I haven't tried any of them myself, and supposedly you have to be careful when making the VCD's so that they will play properly through the program (Too high a bitrate, and the system can't handle it).I had a chance to check this out on the Dreamcast. A guy played part of Tomb Raider and a Girls Gone Wild he had made VCD's of. I was far from impressed with the quality, and thought they actually kind of sucked. Not a very interesting option, IMO.
Current DVD players have a lot of options other than playing stock DVD's now. I just picked one up that plays JPEG images from a CD. It's really cool to take some digital camera pics, burn them on a CD, and pop it in the DVD player.
I don't think xbox or ps2 support that, do they? A game console that plays DVD's just doesn't have that much appeal to me. -
The GameCube demo kiosk at TRU was running a new demo disk at TRU.
The new demo disk includes Star Wars Rogue Squadron III. I didn't have long but the first level is a walking level with Luke on Hoth taking out a big walker with a thermal grenade! I don't know if there were levels past this. Overall it's pretty cool!
I think the whole walker bit has been done to death in many of the SW games, but taking them out without a ship is a twist! I'm sold and look forward to picking up SW RSIII when it comes out!Other playable demos were 1080, F-Zero, and couple others, and a couple rehashes from the preview CD. I wish I had more time to try a few of the other titles out!

Cabbage Patch Kids: Adv. in the Park is a pretty fun game. The basis may be kind of silly (never much of a Cabbage Patch Kids fan) but the game is fun with a lot of variety.
Smurfs, Kool-Aid Man, Cabbage patch, Haunted House and many, many othersMany games may seem kind of stoopid when you analyze them. How about a game where you're a little guy in a white suit that can magically burrow underground, stick an airhose up a monsters ass, and pump away like a mad bastard until they explode.
Maybe it's some of that craziness and unreality that makes a game fun. How fun would a game called "Cubicle Sitter" be? -
I picked up a Genesis when they first came out. I loved that system! I never did get a new SNES and only finally got a SNES when a collecting buddy gave me one just a couple years ago.
It's strange, but once I had the SNES the Genesis was unhooked and I haven't hooked it back up since. I still have all my Genny stuff, but I never get the urge to fire it up. Weird....

Wasn't Gravitar a red label game? Of course there's the silver club edition, but the regular release was red.

Does anyone have any scans of the instruction manuals for the Zelda games? Is there somewhere on the web where I can find them?
I'd go to www.gamefaqs.com for the manuals (actually the walkthroughs, which often explain some of the controls, etc.).
I LOVED the first N64 Zelda (Ocarina of Time). The second N64 Zelda (Mask of Majora) frustrated the hell out of me with the damn clock. I got the hang of slowing down time and going back in time and all, but it just got to be a chore for me. I put it down finally, and have yet to pick it back up.
Pick up Conker's Bad Fur Day, if you haven't already. It's a HOOT!

I picked up SOTE cheap at the local game store. I had heard poor reviews so didn't expect much. I was surprised when I plugged the game in and fired it up. I thought "this isn't so bad" and was actually enjoying myself.
Suddenly the graphics started freaking out and I started smelling smoke! The cart was burning up on me!!
I turned everything off an pulled out the cart. PEE-YEW, did it stink!! Luckily it didn't fry my N64. I never replaced the game after that.

Air-Sea Battle. Purchased at a long departed Woolco store with funds from after school jobs. We played the #@*& out of that game. The whole family would even get in to it, including my grandma.

Actually, I don't regret selling my original Atari. I had probably 20 games, and I've always kept game boxes and manuals. Back in probably '82 we placed an ad in the paper and sold the whole deal for something like $175.
We used the money from the 2600 to buy a brand new COLECOVISION!
We thoroughly enjoyed the CV until we sold it a couple years later. We used the cash from that to purchase games for our new C64. So we went through kind of an overall upgrade process. I've since reaquired a 2600, CV, and more games than I ever could have dreamed of as a youngster. So no regrets really.

-
Back when they actually came out, I played a LOT of CV Mr. Do and Popeye. Mr. Do was actually purchased by me and my bro from money we saved, but Popeye was a Christmas present. To this day, when I fire up the CV, Mr. Do and Popeye both get quite a bit of play.
I think the CV version of Popeye was very well done, in comparison to other systems. The 2nd screen with the springboard actually allows you to catch Sweet Pea's platform (seems like many other systems don't, 2600 for sure). I was surprised to play the NES version of Popeye, which adds rolling skulls to the 1st screen. Were the rolling skulls in the arcade or any other version?
Mr. Do is a pretty darn good arcade translation. It really outshines the 2600 version.

4. When it comes to comparing Apple IIe games to C-64 games, how do they compare? Obviously the graphics and sound are better on the C-64, but what about the gameplay? Is he C-64 surperior in all categories? There is NO comparison between the Apple IIe games and C64. C64 wins hands down. It's like comparing the Channel F to 2600 (with 2600 being the C64). Apple IIe has much lower resolution in the color graphics mode, and it is appearantly very limited on the number of colors in graphics mode. Many Apple games have like 4 colors on screen at a time, where C64 can do 16, with higher res. And Apple seems MUCH slower.
I have both, but the Apple is more like a novelty and reminder of high school "programming" classes for me. The C64 has some kick ass games.
No comparison at all.

Is a Gamecube version of the Anthology 2 still being considered? Or will this be Xbox and PS2 only?
-
With a new PSone only costing $50, your friend better be offering you one helluva deal. The new one should have at least a 30 day return on it too.
-
The controllers on the Intellivision II are VERY cheap. Same basic controller, but they cut some major corners on the production of these. Unlike the originals, they detach from the unit, but they probably had to do that because they anticipated people needing to replace them!
The on/off/reset button is a huge pain IMO.
I think the gold/woodgrain of the original is damn sexy.

Attached are 10 out of 14. They run fine in MESS.(To prevent any further bashing of me - "MESS" is only the name of the emulator. And the binaries are available for free download from Daniels homepage.)
Downloading and trying these games out was very interesting. Very nice intro screen! The games themselves are extremely simplistic. And while the CV isn't an overly complex system, it is capable of much more than what these games are. Each game by itself would not stand up very well, but as a "game pack", it's not too bad. A couple of the games are almost too simple though. The programmer obviously knows what he's doing though.

Nothing game related here (got a power screwdriver).
But it was my first Father's Day, so I have a lot to look forward to. Well, I got Baldur's Gate for GC... does that count?I had this game in hand at Best Buy. It's only $19.99 for GC. Is it a good game?? I hadn't heard much about it, but it looks cool. A lot like Diablo perhaps?

GI Joe is there!

When this game originally came out, didn't Parker Bros. have a contest associated with it? It seems if you beat the game or hit some high level, you got a Cobra baseball hat. I vaguely recall the comic book ad for this.
This was a game I always wanted "back in the day" but never got. I've of course picked it up since then and it isn't too bad.
