I thoroughly enjoyed DK64. The variety of playing as different Kongs was fun. The final boss fight was hard (have to beat him with each Kong) but very memorable. You can even go back and play some early Rare computer games, and a nice arcade version of the original Donkey Kong. I don't think it bit "the big one" at all. But it's not really comparing apples to apples to look at DKC and DK64 (very different games).

I just picked this up last week at Blockbuster, used, for $14.99! I couldn't pass that up (manual and case both in great shape). I fired it up to make sure it works, and it looks like a LOT of fun. I have to finish Zelda:WW first before tackling this one though....

Wow, very nice collection there! Way to go Steve, I know you've worked very hard to get there. That you will. Besides the money, there's also the lack of free time that comes. Believe me...

I was pleasantly surprised to find Nintendo released a preview disk that could be purchased. It has 5 playable demos and several movies. It is formatted much like the preview disks at the Gamecube kiosks. Where I picked mine up had a deal where you got one free when you purchased a 'cube. However they were also selling them for $9.95. The funny thing is on the back of the box it says "Not for individual resale" so I don't know if they were supposed to be selling them? But for $10, I think it's worth it. It has Splinter Cell, Soul Caliber II, Sonic DX, and others.

Like many of you here that were actually around and playing games during "the crash", I really don't recall bad games causing my departure from purchasing and playing Atari and other console (Intellivision, Colecovision, etc.). By the time console gaming had crashed and burned, I was happily playing games on my Commodore 64. Better graphics, could write my own programs/games, bbs'ing, pirating disks (oops, did I just say that) led me away from the consoles and I never looked back. At least until the NES came out years later. I mean c'mon, Firefly or Zork? Winter Games on a C64 or a 2600? Ever since the 2600 came out, there were crap games. To me, the introduction of affordable home computers was as big, if not bigger, of a contributor to the "video game crash" as the glut of crap games.

WOW! Was this at Gamer's on 72nd? I'm so envious. Looks like a nice score. Way to go! Please share details on what's all in there.

I picked up a good chunk of my N64 collection at Blockbuster. Paid $9.99 for most of them. Blockbusters are HEAVILY phasing out the N64 games. The weird part is, the selection just seems to magically shrink. The rental games for the most part are not showing up for sale when they take them off the rental shelves. I can't imagine where they are going. I visit frequently enough that I am confident they are not being put out for sale and then gobbled up.

Don't forget Combat has lots more than just the tanks! I loved the aerial combat games, especially the jets. You could have the option of having the clouds, duck behind a cloud, slow waaay down, make a quick turn, and totally fake out your opponent. I have many fond memories of playing Combat with the bro "back in the day".

I just got to Forest Haven so I'm not far in to the game, but I'm have a helluva good time! I love the look of the game, the gameplay mechanics, and the story. Ocarina of Time was probably my favorite game of the Zelda series. I did NOT like the changes in Majora's Mask (that whole slowing down, reversing time thing just wore me out). I think Wind Waker is going to be my new favorite, but I have to finish it first. I'm looking forward to beating Ganon with 1 sword strike!

That damn level 7 is what kills me everytime. I can get to that level with 5 or more guys, several peppers, and it's always a battle to clear it. If I can make it past 7, then of course the levels repeat, just faster and with the pickles. I can then coast pretty easily through levels 8 - 13, but beat level 14??? FUHGEDDA BOUT IT! Does anybody have a consistent pattern/strategy for level 7 that works for them?

I had a lot of fun with many of the Rare titles for the N64. Conker's Bad Fur Day DK64 Banjo-Tooie Blast Corps I played the crap out of those games. Too bad Nintendo and Rare are splitsville. -
Was it just me, or was Driver 1 and Driver 2 on psx extremely hard? I just couldn't get the hang of the controls. But maybe that's because I suck at driving games, in general?

Do most of you Crystal Castle fans play the 2600 version with the Trakball Controller or joystick? It's fun playing it with the trakball, even if it isn't proportional speed.

Do you have access to a gymnasium or something? Where would you find enough floor space to lay out all your SMS goodies? I have a really nice boxed TG16 with boxed accessories (controllers, multitaps), and all original paperwork/bags. Even a few boxed games like Splatterhouse. I've played around with it and it's a cool system, but it just doesn't keep me interested. I've been meaning to put it up on eBay, but if anybody is interested in trading for it, drop me a line.

Legend of Zelda Master Quest - Today!

Okay, I'm PISSED. I went to preorder Zelda at a GameStop a couple of weeks ago. The stoopid punk working there informed me preorders were $15, if you wanted a CHANCE to get the bonus disc. He claimed they were oversold on the bonus disc orders, and could not guarantee I'd get one. This put me in a panic, and after checking with some other stores, it seemed Best Buy online was the 'safest' way to go. Of course this weekend I see stacks of the damn bonus discs at Target, and Best Buy has them in the stores. Now I have to wait, and hope, for my bonus disc from Best Buy in the mail. Grrrr.... (note to self: never go to Game Stop EVER again). -
My brother and I sold our Colecovision and all the games we had to purchase our C64. We also had to chip in some money to buy the 1541 disk driver (never had to deal with cassette ). We loved it! Played great games, and I even got in to the programming. Plus there was the old 300 baud modem and the bbs days. Ahhh... that brings back some memories. I kept that old C64 over the years, and in fact just took it down within the last year (had to consolidate things when the baby came). I would fire it up now and then. I thought a lot of the arcade conversions were extremely well done. Back in the days, I was a HUGE Infocom fan and played many of those games. The C64 was an exceptional "classic" system, IMO.

I stopped in at Toys R Us over lunch to see what they were doing about Zelda:Wind Waker pre-orders. I was delighted to find that the Gamecube demo kiosk had a new demo disk running, featuring ZELDA. I actually got to play it!!! The demo has 3 'saves' that lets you pick between a dungeon, something to do with stealth, and a boss battle. I played the dungeon save and it was SWEET. If you played an N64 Zelda game, you can pick right up on the controls. The cel shading and animation looks very nice. It's like playing a cartoon. I was able to solve a small puzzle (involving lighting torches with a torch you get from an enemy you defeat) and opened a trunk. TRU isn't doing pre-orders until 2/18. They haven't started in-store at Best Buy yet either, but you can do a preorder (with bonus disc) online at Best Buy. This looks like a no-brainer purchase for 'cube owners! I'm stoked.

I still recall the sad day when after my brother and I had saved up enough money to buy a 2600 game, only to get Imagic's "Riddle of the Sphinx". He wanted to get Cosmic Ark, but me being a fan of Adventure thought Riddle of Sphinx looked cool. Boy was my brother mad at me. They should have called it Riddle of the Sphincter. We never finished it, didn't care to, and it was by far our biggest disappointment on the 2600. I definitely let him pick the next game!

I would be happy to provide a list of bugs, IF THERE WAS A GAMECUBE VERSION SO I COULD PLAY IT!

Best Buy has an off-brand Gamecube memory card for $4.99. It is a 4MB card, but has no indication of how many blocks that is. Nintendo memory cards all go by number of blocks (that I have seen anyway). Any clue as to how many MB = a block? Even if that's pretty good sized, it's kind of spooky trusting game saves to some unknown like this though.

I hit Best Buy over lunch and was suprised to see quite a few Gamecube games $20 or less. This included stuff like Tony Hawks 3 for $9.99, Eternal Darkness for $19.99, Blood Omen 2 for $19.99, SSX Tricky for $14.99, and quite a few others. Some are probably not very good games, but it's nice to see some price drops!

This has been flogged to death already, but I really don't see Pikmin as a kiddie game, or even aimed at kids. I'm not a kid and it really appealed to me. It had very unique gameplay, which seems to be a rare thing these days. I commend Nintendo for creating games that have universal appeal to younger and older gamers alike. It's great to be able to sit down with my niece and nephew (10 & 6) and play some games with them and actually enjoy it.

Quite a long time ago, years literally, I recall hearing about an attempt to make a 2600 emulator that supported internet play. Being able to play a game of Combat, Warlords, or some other multi-player game with a far-away friend would be awesome. But I don't think it ever went anywhere. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong!

New Seanbay article on Naughty Games

Good grief, has anybody ever seen, or worse yet PLAYED, that Boong-Ga Boong-Ga game? What is up with that twisted concept? -
Getting AV out of the Adam is pretty easy. You can get a video out of the Monitor output. Getting Audio is a little trickier. You can pull Audio off of one of the pins of that funky connector. I drilled a hole in the case, bought an RCA jack, grounded the RCA jack, and hooked the center of the RCA jack to the appropriate pin of the funky connector. I don't recall exactly which pin it was, I got that info from an FAQ as I recall. Of course the picture is rock solid when you hook it to a monitor, rather than going through the RF.
