While not fun on the 7800, Pressing the button rapidly allows you to pump the enemies faster and is almost required on higher levels. You can also move in between pumps which lets you escape tight situations. FYI - Veggies come out after the 2nd rock falls.

OK I thought holding the fire button down pumped at the same speed as if hitting the fire button repeatedly.
