  1. After watching the Last Jedi over the weekend I'm pretty sure I lost interest in the Star Wars franchise.

I'll probably see "Episode IX" out of a sense of obligation, but I pretty much stopped caring after "The Last Jedi", too.

I liked how The Last Jedi f'ed with our expectations.

      - Leia fakeout

      - Kylo helment OUT

      - Snoke as big bad? NOPE

      - Rey's parents? NOPE

      - Admiral Purplehair as Leia standin? NOPE

      - The Force being passed down through family lineage? NOPE

      - the politics of Rose vs the arms dealers in the casino

      - how DJ wasn't anything more than what he seemed

      - Phasma out like a chump

      - Yoda and Luke and their "F the Jedi" attitude

^ My quick reaction to that list is that it's an example of how the "real world" is being allowed to seep into the Star Wars universe. Just about all of those things are examples of manipulating the characters with the goal of achieving something specific with the franchise, but viewed as a standalone story, it seemed incongruent to me. It didn't feel like real characters acting consistently with their established histories and characterizations.
