At least in America, it traditionally falls to a brother of the bride - or perhaps in a more modernized viewpoint, the mother or a sister. How can someone from the groom's family give away the bride, although it's all a bit condesceding now anyway, I would think.

As far as I understand, almost everyone in her closest family have tried to make money on her and are shunned already before the wedding, so not so many family members to give her away.

"Give her away" is such a feudal concept, isn't it? Reminds me of primae noctis.
