By the way, do real Philadelphians really put Cheez Wiz on their cheesesteaks
Yes. Those are the best steaks. No other cheese will do.

Can't someone go thru this thread, pick the top responses and start another thread with a poll?

the difficulty ramp is great
It's horrible if you don't select the highest difficulty to start the game.

galaga is quite good.
7800 galaga is great
The only good thing about 7800 Galaga is that it doesn't feel like the NES version wherever the aliens are practically on top of you in formation. The timing is all wrong in 7800 Galaga, it sounds like crap and some of the enemies are wrong.

I cringed when I saw the thread title in the list...
...and why is Joust even on a list of remakes? That game is perfect as is!

The same could be said of Pole Position II.

Children will play crappy games for hours if they don't have something better to entertain themselves with. Adults are more discerning with our free time. Plus there's thousands of games at our disposal and the Internet to tell us what's good and what sucks.
Kids bitd played whatever mommy and daddy spent their hard earned money for, and they'd better damn appreciate the gesture if they have any hopes of getting more in the future.
Now children these days are getting spoiled on smartphones and tablets, and wouldn't know a good game if it bit them in the ass, let alone how to use a joystick.

There's also the Williams multiboards.
A crappy redemption arcade nearby has a machine that you're probably thinking about that I believe has Asteroids and Defender. Machine never worked when I was there. It's been a while since I was there and I can't remember the name of it.

I loved it. We played it for hours, though it was most likely a timing thing.

If I don't have an overlay for the game I just use the one included with Vector Pilot. Looks great for most games.

It's a far better 1 player game.
I disagree. The enemies are too easy to kill. This is a game best suited for up to four players.

Just got some Space Encounters love at a friend's house last week.

The cabaret version is much better with the trigger joystick ala Gorf. The upright is harder to control.
The closest arcade to me is about 45 minutes away and there's nothing rare there that would get me to go more than once per year.

Funspot is about a 50+ minute drive from where I live, so I visit there often on weekends to play Donkey Kong, Krull, Mappy and Ms Pac-Man. When I’m in the mood, I will head to the bottom floor to play Daytona USA and Mortal Kombat II.
You should spend some time on the less common games like Tunnel Hunt, Space Encounters and Death Race...there are many others!

Medieval Mayhem
- 3 fireballs
- fireballs have 7 speeds
- fireballs travel in 32 directions
- each player can release the fireball in 1 of 9 directions.
- while a player could hold a captured fireball forever, it will flare up and take out bricks from their own castle which exposes them to attack by the other players with the other fireballs.
This is the first home brew I ever bought. Back when my son was a single digit midget and playing 8-bit consoles we played the crap out of this one. He would always ask to play it. Now he's a teenager and all he cares about is Xbox One.

I want Scramble and Squish 'Em.
I was disappointed in Squish 'Em. There are a lot of cheap deaths.
For me I'll go with Scramble and Space Rocks. It's hard to narrow it down to just 2.

It's on the other side of the country for me. I already have my vacation time spent for the year so maybe next year I'll be able to go.

Check Aurcade for list of arcades in Philadelphia with Barcade being one of them.
If you like pinball, check out the pinball map on Pinside.com.

If I recall, isn't Opcode an exception in that they do do it for a living? Also, the Color line started development way after DKA and yet three games in it have already been released.
Dude has a full-time job. He does the Opcode stuff on the side.
-
Good job OP. Now what's the finished product gonna be? Update with pics.

Years ago at Target I found the perfect size binder with clear sleeves. When I went to buy more, they were discontinued so I bought what remaining they had on the shelf. You might find something similar online somewhere. Just get measurements of the manuals and do a search for the sleeves.
I'm at work otherwise I'd upload pix.
