  1. There's an old Bavarian-looking house that's an ice cream place where you make your own sundaes that's more of a tourist trap than anything else, but we tend to hit that up every time we go for nostalgia's sake (I used to go there as a kid when visiting the area).

I go there every time I'm there. Couldn't remember the name so I had to Google: http://kellerhaus.com/

There's another place to get ice cream called the Happy Cow https://www.facebook.com/HappyCowIceCream

  2. especially considering restaurants are few and far between in that general area.

True but in this day and age you can just tell your phone "find restaurants near me". The snack bar at Funspot is fine for a quick lunch.

  3. I've been to Funspot three times and stayed at 3 different places.

The first time I went I stayed at the Margate. It's on the lake and they have an indoor pool and weight room. I stayed for the weekend.

The second time I went I rented a house that had a small private beach on the lake. I stayed for the weekend.

The third time I went I rented a "house" on this guy's property that had a private beach on the lake. I stayed for a week.

I would recommend doing the cruise on the lake. I wouldn't recommend the train ride as you won't see much.

  4. I'll be completely up-front here in admitting that I don't really understand all the finer points of chasing record scores.

Why does anyone compete in any sport? They enjoy the competition and want to be number 1.

I haven't sent in any scores to TG in almost 2 years cuz I'm competing in pinball instead. There's money to be had in pinball though. Set a new record score on the TG scoreboard and maybe you're lucky to get a kudos.

  5. I feel dumb, I'm viewing that thread and looking at the gifs, and reading the explanation and I still don't understand what the proof is. Not saying the guy is wrong, I just don't know what I'm looking at.

Well I can't view the GIFs cuz they're blocked at work. I'm just going to copy/paste what someone posted on FB:

The issue is that an arcade score was passed on as a mame score, and on top of that, it is possible to create a faked recording file on mame. So Billy claimed that he had arcade scores that were recorded through a "direct feed" (meaning the video output straight from the board", but in reality is is possible that the entire score is fake due to the potential of creating a fake input file.

  6. ‘Pong’ Game Show in the Works From Scott Sternberg, Atari (EXCLUSIVE)

    http://variety.com/2018/tv/news/pong-game-show-atari-1202681958/

Atari has partnered with veteran unscripted producer Scott Sternberg to develop a game show based on the classic video game “Pong.” The show, “Million Dollar Pong,” will be produced by Scott Sternberg productions, with Jeff Mirkin serving as producer for Atari.

Atari co-founder Ted Dabney had been diagnosed with esophageal cancer several weeks back. We had been asked not to post about it back then when we were first told about it, but the situation is apparently worse than before. Ted has decided not to seek treatment and has been given about 8 months to live. I’m very very sad right now. Ted’s a friend of mine and Curt's, a co-founder of our newer Syzygy company and I will always treasure the time we spent hanging out and hitting all the old Atari locations with him back in 2012.

  8. Proposed Bushnell Award Creates #MeToo Firestorm

    http://web-extract.constantcontact.com/v1/social_annotation?permalink_uri=2FxshXN&image_url=http%3A%2F%2Ffiles.constantcontact.com%2Ff670f869001%2F1984ec2a-994b-4b7c-af06-ba7a650d757b.jpg

Elaine Shirley, an Atarian of that era, told RePlay: ”Those were the times. He [Nolan Bushnell] hit on women and they hit on him. If the #MeToo movement was active when Atari was alive, I think half our company would be charged. To my knowledge, no one ever did anything they did not want to do.

“In truth,” Shirley continued, “I think there were at least the same or more aggressive women at the company. I am not condoning any inappropriate violations related to the #MeToo movement, but I think the movement needs to relate to the era in which the ‘violation’ occurred. However, there are some lines that can never be crossed (especially with children or sexual assaults) no matter what era it was.”

She continued that there was a time when two salesmen in the industry complemented her at a trade show, saying she had the “best legs in the industry.”

“That would not be acceptable now, but it did not bother me,” she said. “They should give Nolan the award,” she concluded.

  9. Atari's founder won't receive a major industry award as #TimesUp turns to video games

    https://mashable.com/2018/01/31/atari-nolan-bushnell-gdc-pioneer-award-rescinded/#o5Z_WIsoFOqS

The backlash began on Tuesday, shortly after a press release went out naming Bushnell as the Pioneer Award recipient for 2018. It has long been known that a frat-like culture dominated the early days of Atari, back in the 1970s and 1980s when the brand was still a major player in the gaming world.

While Bushnell hasn't been chased by the sorts of allegations that have surfaced about men like Harvey Weinstein or Kevin Spacey, his well-documented past behavior — in news reports, interviews, and books — is cause for concern.

In one anecdote from The Ultimate History of Video Games, a book that includes details from the early years of Atari, Bushnell held a board meeting in his backyard hot tub and tried to cajole a woman who delivered legal documents into joining.

As he told The San Francisco Chronicle in a profile: "Some ladies feel comfortable around me, and some don’t. I find the aura of power and money is very intimidating to an awful number of girls."

  10. I don't follow TG at all, but how could crazy scores like Centipede not be questioned? From what I understand, there were many like this. A super high score well above the 2nd ranking, no evidence, and a "round number" ... how could anyone take this seriously?

I questioned it and as far as "round number" goes I was told that Todd "is so good he can end a game on a round number."

  11. There's a pretty low level of interest for most world records. The only people who care about the record for something like staying on a unicycle the longest are the guy who has the record, the guy trying to break the record and the owner of the Ford dealership that's hosting the record attempt hoping it'll draw in some customers who just want to be able to say they saw a world record set and don't care what the actual record was. Someone still has to come out and verify that the guy stayed on the unicycle long enough.

For shits and grins, tell me what the process would be if a person wants to a new world record attempt on Lock N Chase for the Intellivision.
