  1. The third and final board is a little more challenging. You start at the bottom of the screen. And as time passes, a maze grows all around you. Your job is to maneuver through the maze to get this chalice-type thing at the top of the screen. You cannot touch the walls! If you do, it's instant death and the game ends. Also, as each second passes, your score goes down. So you need to move! This board is the trickiest. And the maze corridors are thin at some points. So you have to move carefully. Also, the maze plays a cruel joke on you. As you're about to reach the chalice thing, a new wall comes up, blocking your path - while a new path opens up in another part of the maze. So you have to backtrack.

Get the chalice and you hear a happy tune. Then the game goes back to board #1 again, and you continue.

    That's it!

It's a decent game, but nothing super. But I enjoyed it on some level. I don't think I overpaid for it. Others may disagree. But hey, it's a new Atari game.

    And that's cool.

Wow, judging by your review it sounds like a really good game. The maze stage sounds really cool and I did not get to try it at the TMG Expo.

If anything, Salute Games' posting of one single screenshot of their game has done a great disservice to themselves. Judging by that one screenshot, the game looks like a piece of crap.

  2. I just bought a Lynx at TMG Expo for $40. I bought Robotron, Joust and Rampage all sealed and Paperboy loose. I love this system!

Is there a database somewhere listing all the games released for this console? Also, critic's reviews for the games would be helpful.

  3. That thing is looking great, man! Is that control panel from a real Galaga? Looks like it is.

The control panel, overlay, buttons and joystick are from MikesArcade.com

This is looking really good so far, keep up the great work.

If I may, I'd like to put in my two cents regarding the monitor. I use an authentic arcade monitor in my MAME cabinet and then I tie it to a very cool device called the Universal Video Converter made by Ultracade.

I also use the controller interface called the GP-Wiz. they make one that uses the standard PS2 keyboard input on a pc or USB.

With these two devices in place your arcade experience will be much more realistic and the cost is not too bad either.

Whatever you decide, just keep plugging away at it :)

Can you refer me to a vendor to purchase the monitor from? I need a 19" CRT monitor for this cabinet. Maybe you know someone besides Happs Controls?

  4. im usually fairly easy to please but i know a crap game when i play one and i don't get that feeling from this game. amateurish? yes. crap? imo no.

realistically if this game were some type of cynical cash grab wouldn't they charge more than $15 and knowing the collector mentality, package it a little nicer than a bare cartridge and an instruction sheet? imo a cash grab is signed/numbered, "limited edition" balls to the wall hermetically sealed packaging and a $40-$50 price tag. this is just some dudes and their lil game. you guys are infinitely more knowledgeable about matters such as this than i am so i bow to your wisdom and judgement. im just a small time "for fun" collector who is just happy to walk away with a new game that didn't cost me a fortune, at the 1st game convention ive ever been to. im sure time will teach me to separate the scammers from the good guys but as we stand im still naive, wide-eyed and hopeful lol.

Hey, someone just posted Prehistoric Times on the "Spreading the love with Free Games and more! - 3rd Edition!" thread...I guess they're done with it already...

  5. There were some 7800 carts in the stand in the back by the warlords competition, that's the guy I bought bachelor party from

That's where I got 90% of my stuff but the 7800 carts he had I already had or did not want

That guy had the best stand in the joint, IMHO

  6. I've kicked around the idea of drilling small holes into the kick plate and use black screws. However, I see the possibility of the top of the kick plate not being flush with the cabinet in spots. But I don't know, if staples have been used maybe the screws would work as well.

    Thoughts?

I installed the kick plate yesterday and the only choice I had was to hammer it in using eight small "tack" nails. It does the trick from a cosmetic standpoint as well.

  7. What are the best exclusive titles for the Colecovision? If that's too limiting, what are the best games on Colecovision that beat out all other versions of the same game on other systems? I've been finding it hard to get too interested in the Colecovision since it seems mostly like an arcade conversion system...what makes it stand out besides arcade ports?

    -Adam

It was intended to be the "home arcade." I can't think of any game that is available on the Colecovision that has a better version ported to another system.

  8. I picked up a copy of Prehistoric Times at Too Many Games and sent it along to my trusty Home Brew reviewer. I will try to get it in the next issue (#13, July 2009) of Video Game Trader. Peter can be pretty harsh on bad games. We shall see.

I did play it for about 4 seconds.. It looks interesting and is actually pretty challenging. We shall see.

    Thanks,

    Hi Tom:

Were you the guy that was manning the VGT table yesterday that I spoke to for a few minutes regarding VG Collector rip-offs and the 5200 controller?

Anyway, I played Prehistoric Times for about two minutes. The positive is that it gets a good grade in originality ("collecting meat for points" is not a phrase you'll hear too often in video game play instructions) but graphics are as bad as the screenshot and game play is missing the "repeat playability."

I stopped by the table shortly after 9 AM and was told "we are all sold out (of the $15 carts) but will be offering $20 carts <blah><blah><blah>."

  9. I was at TMG also. I had Colecovision, 5200, 7800 and about three 2600 carts on my shopping list and crossed a lot off of my list with the exception of 7800 carts, echoing their virtual non-existence from a previous forum post. The only 7800 cart that I picked up was Rampage.

At the end of the day, I purchased from only three different vendors. I could not find any Commodore 64 games anywhere. Fortunately, they were a low priority on my list anyway.

I put a huge dent in my Colecovision and 5200 "wants list." I guess for what I spent at the show I easily saved 200% versus buying "onsies and twosies" off of eBay and CTCW:
