  2. 'magine that - first topic of discussion is regarding the controllers! : ] 5200 is the system I love to hate...I loved it at first and now I'm liking it less and less. Nevertheless, it has its place in the classic collection. Super Breakout - yawn... Defender, Frogger, Galaxian, Jungle Hunt, Ms. Pac and Pac-Man are all better on the ColecoVision and Space Invaders, BerZerk are better on the 2600. Centipede, Robotron, Dig Dug, Mario Bros. are better on the 7800. I do not have the 5200 version of Jr. Pac-Man but the 7800 version is awesome. Therefore, I have no reason to play those games on the 5200. So, what the heck is left? One game I love is Qix - it's addictive and it's one game unaffected by the broken stock joysticks. Pengo and Kangaroo are also nice fillers for my arcade port collection. ColecoVision gets the most play in my house and my 5200 just sits there collecting dust for the most part...
  3. Are you giving yourself anything to work with? Yeah, I have had to cut and drill pieces of plywood and the like but none of it is pretty. I have been buying empty cabs from TNT Amusements. I haven't destroyed either cab and the control panels don't have those hideous eight joystick, 24 button layouts. See my two threads for pix: http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?a...18&t=141793 http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?a...18&t=146767
  4. Well, I'm messing around with MAME32 front ends and it is frustrating to say the least. I have found most of them require way too much time to setup messing around with INI files. I found Kymaera the best out there so far but even that is quirky. I found it doesn't save settings at times and the game list setup has been a bear contrary to what the doc says. For example, highlighting the games in the top window of the game list selection doesn't work properly.
  5. Maybe Rip-Off doesn't deserve mention unless others agree. Come to think of it, like Tempest, it is one of the better games in that with a bit of practice you get better at it.
  6. This guy wasn't in the arcades around here when it came out. I only played it a few times recently on one of those multicade cabinets and in MAME. I'm not clear on the game play but yeah, it's tough. I think Star Castle takes a bit of practice. Q*bert for me is tough and actually I'm not 100% sure of the game play - do you have to avoid all the other guys on the screen or are there some that are vulnerable? I only play this one occasionally on the home consoles. You reach level 20 and think it's tough? I would disagree with you on this one and think it's one of the more balanced games in terms of difficulty. I'm with ya there... Also, I've found Space Fury pretty intense and much more difficult than the ColecoVision port. One game I've discovered recently and becoming a favorite of mine is Rip-Off. I'm not sure how popular this one was in the day but I have a feeling it is overrated. Pretty intense game as well. Ladybug is tough also. Always has me on the edge of my seat. Pepper II I've been playing in MAME using a Gravis Gamepad and I find it impossible to play. Maybe a joystick is easier to use. Check out my thread here and feel free to add to the list - it's in need of serious bumpage: http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?a...17&t=141395
  7. Here we go again...at least the current bid is a respectable $56 http://cgi.ebay.com/Colecovision-Pac-Man-C...14#ht_500wt_924 Let's see what this one goes for...
  8. I'm building my collection of C64 cartridge-based arcade ports and I'm disappointed with the quality of some of these ports and scratching my head as to "what the heck happened." While ports like Donkey Kong, Frogger, Moon Patrol, BattleZone and Omega Race are excellent, on the flip side Congo Bongo, Galaxian, Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man are downright terrible. Pac-Man looks like they took the code from the 5200 version and dumped it on a C64 cart. While I like the 5200 port of Pac-Man, I'm disappointed that there weren't improvements made given more machine to work with. Ms. Pac-Man stinks. She moves like stuck in molasses and it looks like they chopped 36 square inches off of the maze. Galaxian - what the heck happened here? The game isn't even playable in my book. The audio effects (if you want to call them that) are downright dreadful. The ColecoVision port is excellent while the 2600 version comes in second with its gameplay making up for the less than perfect graphics. Congo Bongo is furchtbar. The graphics are painful on the eyes and the second screen is impossible.
  9. My name is Brian, I go by prOk on many gaming sites and I own Gamestencils.com. As has been said here already i'm a collector like many of you and I do the site just for the enjoyment of it really. Hundreds of games have been restored using my parts over the years with some really fantastic results and i've shared tons of restoration tutorials with the community at large. Plenty of references are available from popular gaming websites like byoac.com, klov.com and coinopspace.com and I wholeheartedly invite anyone to investigate my reputation for both customer service and product quality. I apologize for it being a touch unclear how to contact me through the store site, if you read the 'about us' link found in the Support box on the left hand side of the site I have most of the information that was asked for here. I am not an all encompassing arcade parts store and my products are very focused on restoration. I've been collecting and restoring for 10 years, running Gamestencils for 5. I also have a fairly large classic console collection that has tons of atari 2600 stuff, coleco, jaguar, NES, SNES, and my personal favorite, Atari 8 Bit. Anyway, that's my story and i'm sticking with it /brian www.gamestencils.com Did you just put that "About Us" on the site because I did not see it listed there previously? Anyway - what is the size difference between a Make Trax Mini stencil set and what I would presume to be a full size Make Trax cabinet? Also, understand my reluctance to do business with a site that has no contact information posted. There is no name, street address or phone number posted to speak of. Credit card companies will not be willing to assist if you do not have a refund policy posted should anything go awry.
  10. Notice that he states that the ColecoVision was released in 1972! http://www.gamasutra.com/blogs/AlexanderBr...90802/2650/What

  14. Is that documented in the manual? Why make it difficult and just add that as another game option? Look up "easter egg" Yeah I know what it is...but if it were me I wouldn't have egged an additional game With all due respect, feel free to program your next game with no easter eggs. You don't understand - I know Eduardo spent quite a bit of time on Pac-Man Collection. I am saying that if I would have put as much effort into PMC I would not have egged a whole additional game. The game is worthy and should be showcased.

  16. Well there are 2 sides made from 3/4" MDF. The base is 36" x 48" with a 4" riser, all made from 3/4" particle board. The storage shelf is almost identical to the base minus the riser, again made from 3/4" particle board. The power shelf is 36" x 16" and made from particle board. The monitor shelf is 36" x 15", made from particle board, with a 3/4" thick stiffening brace made from plywood. Then all the plastic and wood for the controller/console panel, overhead marquee, and monitor/poster plexiglass. Trust me the 292 lbs. is not an estimate. I borrowed my portable 400 lb. shipping scale from work and weighed each piece to arrive at that number. I had to build it lying on its back then stand it up, which really wasn't that bad to do by myself. The hardest part was sliding it back the 2 feet to the wall over the carpet, once I got finished installing and adjusting the monitor last night. Holy cow - did you use those furniture sliders? Honestly, I don't doubt you but I wouldn't have thought it be that heavy. I work on arcade cabinets and they seem pretty light.
  17. Almost 300 pounds? You gotta be kidding? How does that work?
  18. http://rr.wireless.ign.com/rrview/wireless.../022787/108018/ Seems like there is a lot going on in this version
  19. Well, for the last week we've been thinking about what colors to do for the arcade. I looked at pix of other arcades (home and commercial) on the Net and the easiest working color combination would be chocolate, yellow and orange. It even gives you that retro 70s look. My wife doesn't like it because it reminds her of corn in 5h1t. Another problem with that scheme is that it isn't dark enough for that "outer space" feel. So we kicked around baby blue, navy blue, teal, olive, yellow and red (three of those colors to be used). Then we just couldn't figure out how to make those colors work with the walls that we have... So, I thought why not just look at the Encyclopedia of Arcade Games for inspiration? Galaga: Green, Red, Blue, Purple - N0PE Galaxian: Blue, Green, Gold - N0PE Space Invaders: Crimson, Blue, Yellow/Gold - Perfect!!! The main color will be blue with a darker shade for the ceiling. The yellow/gold and crimson will be used as accents.
  20. I checked out your page and it looks like you did a lot with little space. That's the challenge that I am facing.
