Any proof? I haven't seen 5200 prices change that much over the years. Honestly, I don't understand all this 5200 vs. CV fanboyism. Can someone please tell me why people need to argue over which 26+ year old system is better? Because they havent grown up yet? Hehe, good point. Yeah - what is the goal of this thread?

And the saga of people expressing their "opinions" as though they are "facts" continues ... Maybe he was referring to the non-centering joysticks... Ha ha. I knew this would be mentioned! It's not that big of a problem given the varous sticks available: Wico/Wicopad, Masterplay, Digital joystick adapter, or gold-pcbs for A5200 sticks, or a good trackball. Trackball is better than A800 version. The gold contacts make the controllers better, but does not fix the self-centering issue. The problem is that you have to fork out extra dough to get a working joystick for the system. The Atari 2600 had the best stock joysticks of any of the Atari "00" consoles and ColecoVision.

Pac-Man on the 5200 is "the 5hit," but look at that piece of garbage they released for the 2600. In contrast, Space Invaders and Galaxian are better than the 5200 versions. I think this where gameplay made the difference versus "pretty" graphics. The same may be true of Q*bert and Frogger, but I'm not buying those because of the 5200 controllers.

And the saga of people expressing their "opinions" as though they are "facts" continues ... It's a given that bulletin boards (as they were called in the good ol' days ) are opinionated. Wouldn't it be redundant stating "IMHO" especially when the very topic is "which system is better"?

ColecoVisions are on eBay all the time...

I just got a record last week - #3 on Pepper II skill level 1. I'm going to go for a record on Mouse Trap skill level 1 tomorrow night. I scored 3.6 million last night. Before anyone busts my chops for "skill level 1": these are the games I enjoy playing and that's what it's all about, right? In regard to the early post about Twin Galaxies frowning upon the use of another controller - if you have seen the movie "Chasing Ghosts" you'll remember the scene where Todd Rogers put tape on the TV screen to help him in playing Barnstorming.

C64 Arcade Ports in Cartridge Format
VectorGamer replied to VectorGamer's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
Do you know how to get past that second level? I haven't figured it out yet. Actually my wife, who has very little interest in video games, bought the C64 to play Peanut Butter Panic. -
I agree. I don't feel I should be apologetic for my interests.

I always thought it was funny that the Invaders looked nothing like the characters in the game. -
What have you actually PLAYED? Weekly Top Ten for 2009
VectorGamer replied to cvga's topic in Atari 2600
You crack me up with some of the most obscure games that you come up with to play! -
Y'know - I don't have to know a thing about the hardware differences between the 5200 and ColecoVision. All I have to do is play the darn game to see which system is better. Have you seen the old Imagic video that is posted on the net where they had kids playing and evaluating the new games? It wouldn't surprise me if they were not technical and were just to opine strictly based on the game experience. I like both systems but fact is I haven't hooked up my 5200 in over a month. There's no doubt that I enjoy playing the ColecoVision more than I do the 5200. I'm addicted to Mouse Trap and Pepper II which are not available on the 5200. Call them second tier games if you will but they are really great games. I have never played Frogger on the 5200 and I don't intend on buying it unless I play it first. I have heard mostly negatives about the joystick controllers essentially breaking the game. Frogger on the ColecoVision works good for me although the best version is on the Starpath Supercharger. Galaxian is better on ColecoVision while Centipede is better on the 5200. 5200 has Pengo while the ColecoVision does not etc. etc. etc. Both systems are worth owning, but again to answer the question in the original post the ColecoVision is the better console. Arguing the facts are fine but insulting one another is just dumb. There's more serious issues to be concerned about than "which system is a better console."

ColecoVision Mouse Trap 165 mins 3,617,900 on skill level 1 I'm warmed up for Friday night's taping... -
Because the number of people that care about a given obscure game isn't enough to justify the effort... You can come here and say that you love, lets say, Lasso, a SNK game from 1982. The problem is, who else cares about that? I'd rather see new titles than remakes. I can think this thread throws out some ideas of what games would be of interest for CV. Satan's Hollow seems to be the one that is requested the most so far.

My thought on the article was that it was a rehash of what was probably already argued in these forums. But, nevertheless I wanted to post it for other's interest. -
I am no longer in need of a coin door.
-
Scramble is in my to-do list... Opcode: Have you had the opportunity to fire up Satan's Hollow on MAME? I have to say this regarding a Galaga port for CV: I think if this were to be released it would be either graded an "A" or an "F." I would believe that the release would be scrutinized and if you can't get to the point of forgivable subtle differences from the arcade version I believe it would be a failure similar to the 2600 release of Pac-Man.

I'm going to try creating a shortcut to the bat file, set the props to run minimized and add it to the startup folder for "All Users" and see what happens. If that works, Win XP will be completely hidden.

ColecoVision Mouse Trap 30 mins I'm practicing for an attempted record for Mouse Trap this Friday night. Seems like I have this thread all to myself! : ] -
Well, I just about have Windows completely hidden for my MAME project. The only thing out standing is getting MAME32 to startup minimized to the hidden taskbar as it flashes up on the screen for half a second. "START /MIN /B MAME32.exe -quit <game name>" doesn't cut it.

Arcade Cabinet Modification Project
VectorGamer replied to VectorGamer's topic in Arcade and Pinball
I just ordered a marquee from twobits.com and a monitor from arcadeshop.com. The last piece is the coin door and I'm having a heck of a time finding the right size without having to cut up the cabinet. -
Let me take a wild guess - you'll need about about 4' of drywall to cover the ducts and you'll have 6.5' of clearance?
-
Kind of reminds me of when I worked on the unfinished basement at my old house. Sanding the drywall is the biggest pain in the a55. In the interest of cash flow, I had to spread that project over a two year time period. Anyway, the issue with the ducts I had the same problem with water pipes. We installed drywall from that point back to the doorway (it was in a hallway). We still had access above the drywall since it was surrounded by tile on three sides and an unfinished mud room on the other. I believe the drop was about 4 inches lower than the drop ceiling and it did not look bad at all.
