C64 Arcade Ports in Cartridge Format
VectorGamer replied to VectorGamer's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
I got my copy of Clowns which was pretty good, although game play certainly not as good as the 2600 Circus. I also got a copy of Congo Bongo and boy were the graphics horrible! I understand there may be two versions of this game and apparently I got the crap version. -
The positive about the "return to roots 2D platformer" offers a grain of hope for the return of the classic arcade. I stopped liking Mario after Super Mario 3. All this Mario Kart etc. isn't my cup of tea.

I need a coin door for an arcade cabinet that I am restoring. I need a door that is 12.25" wide x 10" high. It needs to be bolt on type.

Do you think they could have done anything with Pac-Man?

That's when you act totally clueless just to see how dumb the other person is...then call them on all the inaccuracies... I'm in IT and I do that stuff all the time...

A lot of adults play Wii and Xbox etc so the weirdness is actually from playing the 2600, ColecoVision et al as most envision "using a rectangle to hit a block" (e.g. "Miniature Golf" on the 2600). However, I can tell you that numerous folks my age get a big smile on their face when they come over and they get to play Donkey Kong on the ColecoVision because they hadn't played it in years. Now, I'm doing retro gaming parties at my place and we have a pretty good turnout.

Decided to go after Todd Rogers Galaxian record this summer
VectorGamer replied to homerwannabee's topic in Atari 2600
They allow digital recording now. VCR is actually not allowed because they like to see the hands controlling the joystick. Get a cam with minimum 640x480 resolution. Make sure you show the power up of the game. This is not correct. I just submitted a VHS tape for my Pepper II record. I shipped it out last Monday and it was on the scoreboard last Wednesday. It even states in their FAQ that VHS is acceptable. -

Are you saying that you video taped it? Just photographed as you can see. Photograph isn't going to do you any good. If you want to be in the record book, go get a VCR from Goodwill/Salvation Army/Garage Sales for like $5. Otherwise, your record will be forgotten. You don't want that do ya? -
I played Comet but Cyclone was FUBAR'd I would hate to think that they are just going to send these things to the landfill. I can't believe how many classic machines needed repair - it doesn't look good that's for sure.

When's the second batch? Do you have enough interest for a second run? My name should be on that list...

Here are the games I found at the HersheyPark arcade (over by the Kissing Tower area of the park): Q*bert's Qubes Galaga Pole Position x3 (two cabinet and one cockpit) The Safe BerZerk Millipede Monaco GP Operation Wolf All these games were out of service Ms. Pac-Man x2 Dig Dug Mr. Do! Joust I also found two of my favorite pinball machines Comet and Cyclone (out of service). Very disappointing to say the least that a lot of these machines are out of service and need repaired.

I'm not against creating some guidelines. I think the whole group should have input instead of just allowing me to make the rules. I've tried to share my thought process at various points in the past. Here's a list of guidelines that I've generally used so far... 1. Although I also prefer using game consoles I have allowed emulators. In some cases (homebrews in development) there is no alternative other than using an emulator. 2. For the most part I've accepted only 8 bit machines. I guess this pretty much takes us up to NES, 7800, and SMS. However, I've also allowed TG-16 since it's an 8-bit processer (and the games have more of a classic feel to me). I've also grandfathered the Atari Jaguar because it's Atari. I have not been including (or even logging) Genesis, SNES, PS, XBox, Wii, etc. 3. I've allowed Arcade games if they're from the classic era or a continuation of a classic theme (i.e. Super Qix) 4. If you don't tell me how much time you've played, I generally give you credit for 10 minutes (unless there's something in your post that makes me think it's more or less). If you state that you've played a game multiple times during the week I usually give it credit for 20 minutes. I agree on all the points except I would bump down the time in #4 to 5 minutes and not have to make judgement of it being more or less. THx -
In that respect it is a good idea to try. I would have thought someone tried this before but to my knowledge there has not been any success in this area. I was actually going to ask my father-in-law a few months ago if he wanted to work on designing it given that he just retired. I didn't bother since he and have been both busy with other projects.

And make sure the new controllers are just as terrible as the stock controllers of yesteryear! : ] I think it's a great idea - put Satan's Hollow on it also.

Q: Are the sound effects in the 2600 port of Moon Patrol similar to that of the arcade version? I don't recall ever playing the arcade version of this game so I would not know. If they are not similar, it may be worth giving them a shot of testosterone. If I never played this game before and I only heard the sound effects I would think it is a Sesame Street game or another in that genre.

Need Help Repairing Colecovision System
VectorGamer replied to mharnisch's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
I've have the same problem and even using a new cable with gold contacts plugged into one of those RCA-coax converters doesn't help. I suck at soldering myself...
