  1. Did you buy pre-made shelves or did you make your own? I need to get mine organized which is why I ask. Do you have pix?
  2. The Supercharger version of Frogger is the best IMHO. Too bad the library for the Supercharger is so thin. But I guess folks found ways to squeeze more out of the 2600 without having to use the Supercharger, eh?
  3. I'm a bigot when it comes to arcade ports to home consoles in that the graphics and game play have to be close to the arcade. Having said that, what if there was a thread "Home Console Ports Better Than the Arcade" - wow that would be tough. Centipede for the 7800 is the best version graphically and in game play. My son and I love playing in Team Mode. The problem I have with the 2600 version is the graphics. I can't get past the rectangle for a cannon and the star of the show is too blocky looking less than a centipede. And aren't the mushrooms mere rectangles (I forget as I seldom play it)? The ColecoVision version (I know this is 5200 and 7800 comparisons thread but just to be a completest) comes in third in my book behind the 5200 version. The problem I have with the CV version is it is not entirely true to the arcade from the graphics and sound effect standpoint. I think Q*bert for the 2600 stands up to any of the other ports. I stink at that game, though (see the "You Stink At These Games" thread).
  4. I think the 7800 Asteroids is one of the few games where the graphics were improved without sacrificing level of game play. Some of the new releases like Frogger for the PS1 are dreadful. However, Asteroids and Space Invaders for the 2600 are the best. If you want a Space Invaders cart close to the original get Space Invaders Arcade - it's pretty sweet. I'm with you on the original black and white vector Asteroids. That game is simply awesome and I always loved the sound effects and the graphics of your ship being blown apart.
  5. Joust isn't all that bad but the 7800 version is remarkable. 2600 version is tough because the space between platforms is tight...
  6. Well, the original post comes from a member that just joined whereas you've been here for over 7 years. I don't understand why members have such a problem with "rehashed" threads - I keep seeing replies like this a lot lately...if it bothers you, JC, ignore the topic and move on...I mean is there anything positive in the first paragraph of your reply? Should there be a terms of service stating that newbies must perform an exhaustive search before posting a new thread?
  7. No - the seller however did not emphasize, as a respectable seller would, that these are for the boxes only and no games. Therefore, he got what he wanted in someone buying a bunch of paper.
  8. The thread has "Liked" meaning past tense so therefore my submission is Laser Blast.
  9. i Agree!! if you are able to beat it, that would be something i would want recorded if it was me. good luck! Rick Hell, if you're going to take pix of the scores you might as well record it and submit it. Why would you go through all this and not make it official? Had I been recording my games, I would've had #3 on ColecoVision Mouse Trap and #3 & 4 (both mine!) on ColecoVision Pepper II.
  10. I agree with the previous post that the 2600 version of Space Invaders is better than the 5200 version... I would rather play Galaxian Arcade on the 2600 versus the 5200 version of Galaxian (although the ColecoVision version is best!). Speaking of which, anyone know why the heck you do not get extra lives on Galaxian Arcade beyond 7000 points?
  11. I think games like Barnstorming is an example of where Activision tried to dazzle everyone with graphics versus game play.
  12. Has anyone found a converter box that works well with connecting Atari 2600, Colecovision et al to a VGA monitor? I have a couple of flat panel monitors that I want to keep for retro gaming night instead of ditching them when I replace my home desktop with a notebook. I have found some of these, which I could also use for NES or Flashback composite connections on some, but none that convert the coax to VGA... http://www.svideo.com/video2vga1.html http://www.ramelectronics.net/audio-video/...ductname-en-asc
  13. Question - why does every 2600 version of Pac-Man use dashes instead of dots in the maze?
  14. Interesting that two of "Atari's finest" would show up in the top 25 YTD!
  15. The game was supposed to be a port of Star Castle but if memory serves the limitations of the VCS would have made a mess of it and therefore was the inspiration for Yar's Revenge. It's an unique game which I think most great games are, but in this case I'm not gaga about it. I think every 2600 gamer should have this game in their collection however it's not the one that I am playing three or four days a week for 30 minutes a pop (that time slot goes to Pepper II on the ColecoVision!).
  16. Agreed...you can throw Sky Jinks in with that...
  17. ColecoVision Space Fury 5 mins Pepper II 60 mins LadyBug 15 mins
  18. Thanks for your comments. I'm not planning to make any more changes to the game at this point. Later levels of the game include homing bullets that are much more difficult to avoid. Also, the speed of the bullets increases as the game progresses, which has the effect of changing the angle of fire. Chris When and how do you plan on releasing this as a cart?
  19. I had to play the games on the real hardware...Space Invaders was a good reason also This is actually the second VCS which I received as a birthday present back in February. Blame it on the movie Chasing Ghosts for sucking me back into classic gaming. The first VCS I got was in 1980. Besides being an arcade rat, Space Invaders was the reason we got it. I played Tank back in the day and the colorized version in Combat looked really nice. I seem to remember $160 at Service Merchandise being the damage. My dad was probably reminding me over and over again as to how much one cost which may be why I remember.

  21. What would you think of making the lasers "thinner" as you would find in Berzerk (but not necessarily shortening the length)?
  22. This has to be a paddle game
  23. Wow! This is a fantastic game and I would like to be included on the buy list when this is ready to go. My recommendation is this - I played the RC2 version of this game and I found the alien fire to be too predictable at the angles of 5:00 and 7:00 which makes it easy. Is there a way to inject some randomness into the direction of alien fire?
  24. I guess we'll agree to disagree, in part, on this one. I know when this was released many gamers felt it was commonplace to sum up Freeway as "just like Frogger only with a chicken." I do not doubt the joke was an inspiration as to how Activision could write a game that played like Frogger.
