  1. It could be because so many users here trashed his game based on seeing one screenshot of it. I'm not criticizing. I'm just surmising. I'm guilty of being one of the loudest trashing his game based on a screenshot. He did himself a disservice by only posting one screenshot and I don't recall if he ever provided details on the gameplay. The reality is that the concept and gameplay isn't all that bad. The fact that he sold out in 45 minutes is misleading without knowing exactly how many carts he sold. So, if one is going to tout that feat then tell us exactly how many carts that was. In fairness I provide a link to an article publicizing his game.
  2. While the aliens are challenging in Commie Mutants, one frequently has like 10 ships and the game lasts forever. I like Commie Mutants along with Fireball, Frogger and Mindmaster. It's disappointing that Starpath didn't capitalize on their product. It was promising and they could have delivered some quality arcade ports.
  3. Is this the game where the Asteroids travel diagonally? They should have made that game #1 to best emulate the arcade game.
  4. I don't find Yar's Revenge boring but I do think it is overrated. It certainly isn't one of the frequent carts I pop into the VCS. I give it marks for being challenging.
  5. Second that. What a major, major disappointment. It's a shame to put it with the others, but a collection is not complete... ALL Activision titles kick major buttocks, but what happened with this one? As a member said about a different game, I used to like Laser Blast when I was a kid but now I find it too monotonous. Maybe if I had a few drinks I'd enjoy it, but that's not going to happen any time soon since I haven't had a drop of alcohol in a year. I don't know about all Activision titles kicking butt - another stinker is Sky Jinks. Sticking with the Activision theme, another game you can add to the overrated list is Barnstorming.

  7. As others have stated, I started using the ignore feature. Some members seem to have issues. One thing I can't stand is someone posting a dumb comment like "why are we talking about this issue?" It's like "dude - if the thread doesn't interest you, don't read or post to it. Duh!" That's where the ignore feature is helpful!
  8. I agree - while I think Demon Attack is one of the better games on the 2600, game play is pretty monotonous...
  9. I'll disagree with you on the "franchise titles." The most obvious being Donkey Kong for the Colecovision. Zaxxon was also an important win for Coleco. However, I maintain that Zaxxon (arcade and home version) was less about game play and more about being a graphical showcase. You could argue about what the franchise title for the 2600 was. Early on, Space Invaders was a huge release - that would be my pick. I believe had it not been for Space Invaders, we wouldn't even have this discussion. Exactly... Which brings this question - how was Nintendo able to control the titles being released for their system? Recall that Atari had tried to block Activision from releasing titles for the 2600 but lost that court case thus making way for CommaVid and Froggo to release their crap titles.
  10. I've seen posts like these in other threads... Here's a tip - don't post or read the thread...

  13. I see that the thread was actually created like 5 years ago!
  14. For me, the timing of this thread is ironic since I just picked up Classic Football II for $1.47 at Goodwill yesterday. I hadn't seen the original game for years, so it may have been obvious to most that it was not the original given the "sound on/off" and "Classic Football II" on the front. But for me the tip that it was not was the battery compartment on the back. For one, I remember the battery cover sliding off (opposed to the screw-on) and using a 9v battery versus the two AA's required in this version. Now, I purchased this at Goodwill so it is sold loose with no packaging. So yeah, I was fooled into thinking it was the original handheld version. What also gave it away was the "Charge!" jingle during the kickoff was not the same. Had it not been for this thread, I'd still be thinking I had the original. In any event, I was playing the game last night and really enjoyed it. What makes it a great game is that it leaves to your imagination how the game in your hands would translate to a real-life game on the gridiron. I could picture a cold, wintry defensive struggle between the Pack and the Vikings in the 14-14 tie that I played last night. I was surprised that my seven year old found it to be really fun. I mean, he does have a Gameboy and Lynx to play with instead. Growing up, most kids had the Football I handheld for whatever reason. I thought Football II was far better than the original. No matter the version, head-to-head play was achieved by passing the handheld back-n-forth on change of possession. This is just another kick in the pants for garbaging all the original stuff that I had. Blip, Football II, Tiger Head to Head Football...the list goes on...
  15. One eBay Pac-Man Collection sold for $260.55 on 5.25.09...
  16. What do we need to do to get a copy from the 2nd batch (besides pay for it! : ])?
  17. Here's the flip side to this thread: http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=144302 Here are my picks for the games that smelled something foul after inserting them into the 2600: Pac-Man I believe the opening notes of the game translate to "You-R-a-Te-Rard" Cosmic Swarm Here's a sperm that helped fertilize the Video Game Crash... Night Driver I played the arcade game a lot - but someone let loose the three-year old with crayons and construction paper to program the graphics for the home version...<<<B00P-b00p>>>
  18. The "**" note in the post should be "check or money order" - not check exclusively as it currently states...
  19. In what regard was the Jaguar successful? Sales? Technology-wise? As a classic gamer, I look at the titles available for the Jaguar and do not find it appetizing. The 2600, 5200, Colecovision and to a lesser degree the 7800 and NES are the consoles I want to fulfill my hunger for classic arcade games.

  21. Okay, really, why all the hate for Defender here??? Many of my friends and I loved that VCS game. Still think it's a fine game. Yeah, it's not GRAPHICALLY a lot like the arcade game, but it's a great game. I think the biggest problem with Defender is the flicker which actually gives me a headache after playing it for a few minutes. Others have complained about the controls for smart bombs.
  22. You can't do this directly. You have to do Pitfall II sorts of things, which is what Chimera was going to be about. The demos I put on Youtube showed the ARM processor rendering text bitmaps on the fly. The 2600 merely spooled the data out to the registers each frame. Could you elaborate regarding Pitfall II and post links to the Youtube vids? This sounds interesting...
