  2. Well, they were "sold out" at the Too Many Games expo so now you can only order them for $20 a pop. I question exactly how many were purchased for the "introductory price" of $15...
  3. Here's an update - cabinet is now painted with T Moulding and kick plate installed...
  4. It was intended to be the "home arcade." I can't think of any game that is available on the Colecovision that has a better version ported to another system.
  5. Hi Tom: Were you the guy that was manning the VGT table yesterday that I spoke to for a few minutes regarding VG Collector rip-offs and the 5200 controller? Anyway, I played Prehistoric Times for about two minutes. The positive is that it gets a good grade in originality ("collecting meat for points" is not a phrase you'll hear too often in video game play instructions) but graphics are as bad as the screenshot and game play is missing the "repeat playability." I stopped by the table shortly after 9 AM and was told "we are all sold out (of the $15 carts) but will be offering $20 carts <blah><blah><blah>."
  6. I was at TMG also. I had Colecovision, 5200, 7800 and about three 2600 carts on my shopping list and crossed a lot off of my list with the exception of 7800 carts, echoing their virtual non-existence from a previous forum post. The only 7800 cart that I picked up was Rampage. At the end of the day, I purchased from only three different vendors. I could not find any Commodore 64 games anywhere. Fortunately, they were a low priority on my list anyway. I put a huge dent in my Colecovision and 5200 "wants list." I guess for what I spent at the show I easily saved 200% versus buying "onsies and twosies" off of eBay and CTCW: Colecovision Miner 2049er Front Line Subroc Beamrider Jungle Hunt Spy Hunter Victory Tarzan WarGames PitStop Bump 'n' Jump 5200 Joust Berzerk Space Invaders Qix Pengo Robotron:2084 Kangaroo Mario Bros. 2600 Millipede Jr. Pac-Man Pressure Cooker Stampede 7800 Rampage Lynx The Lynx console itself Rampage Robotron:2084 Joust Paperboy Additionally, I bought Jet Moto II and Need For Speed Playstation games.

  9. I got a 7800 for $20 off of eBay and between eBay, CTCW, members here at AA and gaming expos I am having no problems at all getting games. As a matter of fact, I have a bunch of dupes you can buy off of me to get you started. PM me if you're interested.
  10. What about that company that wrote a lot of those vector arcade games? I forget their friggin' name...I thought it started with a "C".
  11. Eh, there is no 2600 baud. The magazine is named in honor of telephone hacking/phreaking. 2600, as discovered via Capt'n Crunch whistles, was the hertz tone that used to be used by the phone companies to gain operator access to the long distance trunk lines. Yes, that would be 2400 baud. Cap'n Crunch - are you referring to Winn Schwartau?
  12. I agree with a lot of what you said. With the exception of sports games, everything else is junk. I started a thread in another forum regarding if the video game crash would happen again. I believe the title of that thread is "Will History Repeat Itself?" I honestly believe that if someone can design an original 2D game that smells of the classic video game era and iff that game is a huge success, that it could open the flood gates for a comeback as you suggested. There's someone out there smarter than me that can figure out exactly what original and addictive could be in that regard as I am spent as far as what that something new and different could be. But, for all this to happen is going to take a lot of luck, a lot of effort and nice big kick in the pants. This may be just wishful thinking and a pipe dream on my part.

  15. Perhaps there is a market or interest for games programmed in this language but I don't know why one would spend the effort using a language that has such limitations. The original post asked for feedback which I provided. My preference is not to have blocky graphics ala "Superman." If this is not possible or the goal of this project, then disregard my feedback and move on.
  16. Yikes. Reminds me of the time we cleaned my grandmother's house back in the 70s. I remember going over, and over, and over the paneling on the walls. You are going to take the TV apart and clean inside it, right? I'm afraid to do that!
  17. Um, you realize this game was made for the 2600 right? Um, yeah - have you ever seen the graphics produced in Medieval Mayhem or Stargate?
  18. Has anyone spent a lot of time and effort into their classing gaming collection and have it wiped out by a fire or natural disaster?
  19. I currently have a 2600, 5200, 7800, Colecovision and C64. I have some holes to fill in respect to the carts I would like to purchase to complete my collection for each respective console. I am only buying games that I want to play, not trying to collect every cart produced for that console. I am really interested in beginning to collect the old standalone consoles like Pong, Superpong and the old Odyssey consoles. For me that would be a real trip and hell for my wife. Now, my wife is not a nag or bad person, she just does not have the same appreciation for this stuff as I do. I'm sure others in this forum have the same reality. Also, I would probably add the XEGS to my collection.
  20. Here are my commendations and recommendations. Keep in mind these are from a player's perspective and not a programmer's. Commendations Nice concept and challenging game play Nice intro screen Our guy looks good graphically The "Game Over" sound effect is good Recommendations The graphics are too blocky I got lost in the dark cave and seemed like I was going around in circles. Maybe this was by design to get the character into a dead end. It would have been cool to have monsters attacking while in the dark cave. What are those blocks moving sideways and falling on our guy? This is an example of where the graphics need to be improved. If the player has to ask what they are, then the graphics need improvement. I do not like the other sound effects used in the game. They sound too much like what was used in the old Atari games like Superman. Why are the monsters able to go through walls?
  21. The only reason I played the 5200 was to test it on the new 19" TV I bought for $12 off of Craigs List. I bought the TV to have as a 4th TV for my retrogaming parties and will pretty much sit in storage the rest of the time. The thing was housed in a smoking environment - Pall Malls I may add. I Goo-Goned it and then alcohol'd it three times and I still have brown crap showing up on the rags...
  22. Looking forward to it. I will be at the TMG Expo this Sunday and I may be able to submit some material for your next issue. BTW, how often will this mag be published?
